And Her Name Was Day
Chapter 1
"Did you see Dylan today?" Keely asked swinging her bag over her shoulder.
"Obviously. He sits right next to me in like four of our classes." I laughed reaching for my gym bag.
"He's having a party tomorrow night, you coming? Cooper's going to be there." She wiggled her eyebrows at me and smiled.
Volleyball practice had just ended and we where in the locker room putting all of our stuff in either our lockers or gym bags. Keely was my best friend and we both played volleyball together.
"I don't care. I don't like him." I wiggled my eyebrows back at her in a mocking way.
"Come on. How could you not? He's so adorable and sweet and you guys are like best friends, besides me of course, and you guys would be so cute together." She pouted as we started to walk out of the gym and to our cars. "Can I get a ride? My truck broke down again."
"Like you said me and Cooper are just best friends. Okay? But yes you can have a ride, when are you going to get that damn thing fixed?" I laughed.
"Oh come on! You love my baby." She laughed too as we finally got to the senior parking lot at our school. It was the last car left except for the janitors and a black car parked a little behind and to the right of mine. There was a guy leaning against it, but he was facing the other way.
"I do, but it is no longer even decently safe." I continued laughing. I watched the guy leaning against his car turn around and begin to walk towards us. "Do you know him?" I asked Keely.
"No, probably just lost or waiting for someone." she shrugged. "What is my brother doing here?" She asked looking up to the parking lot entrance. He was about six years older than me and Keely and had already graduated from high school. He now had a job as one of the local cops. He pulled up in his cop car to us and rolled down the window.
"Hey Day, how are you?" Carson asked me first.
"Never better. And I trust that you're the same." I smiled.
"Always," he smiled. "Come on Keely, we have got to go pick up an anniversary present for mom and dad." He said looking at her. I looked back over to the other guy that was in the parking lot. He put me on edge and gave me a weird feeling. I noticed that he had turned around and began quickly walking the other way, to his car.
"Was that today? Fuck, I forgot. Never mind about the ride Day. Love you and see you tomorrow at Dylan's party right?" She smirked getting in Carson's car.
"Love you too. Tell My other mother that I said happy anniversary and no you will not. I plan on sleeping till Monday." I winked.
"Whatever. If you change your mind you know where to find me!" She waved and Carson pulled off. I quickly got in my car and tossed my gym bag to the back seat. The other guy was still here but in his car. I started my car and looked in the rearview mirror to see that he was starting to get out and head this way.
He definitely put me on edge so I started to pull put of the parking and start my journey home. Once on the main roads, I checked to make sure that no one was following me, and there wasn't.
The ride home was about twenty minuets due to my father insisting that we lived in a more secluded part of town. His job always paid get money so we always had the best alarm systems and the most beautiful houses. When I got home I typed in the code for the gate to our driveway and it it started to slowly open. I pulled through, pushed the button to close it again, and began the drive to the top of the hill our house was on. I loved the long driveway because it had trees dotting to whole land, to where it was like woods, and the trees on the side of the road cover the sky from above so it was almost cave-like. I was absolutely beautiful. I pulled up to our house and parked in the driveway, getting my bags out.
I unlocked the big oak double doors to my house and called out, "I'm home!" I got no response so I walked to the kitchen where my mom normally was. She wasn't in there so I checked the living room and se wasn't there either. Something caught my eye from behind my great-grandmother's antique chair that was passed on to my mother. I walked around the couch and my mouth dropped open and I dropped to my knees. My mom's dead body laid there on her side her eyes still open, but she wasn't breathing as blood leaked out of her chest.
I shouted out to my brother, "Hunter! Hunter! Call the police!" When I got no response, my heart dropped. "No!" I shook my head an took off up the marble steps of my house.
I ran down the long hall to my brothers room where the doors were wide open. Entering the room, I saw my brother's still body laying on the floor, blood spilling out onto the carpet. I quickly grabbed my phone out of my pocket and dialed 911.
"Los Angeles Police Department, what is your emergency?" A lady answered to phone.
"My mom and brother have been murdered." I cried.
"Okay ma'am police and ambulances are on their way, can you try to calm down for me?" She asked calmly. I took a deep breath and nodded to myself. Calming myself as much as possible.
"Are you positive that they are not alive miss?" The dispatcher asked.
"Positive." I sniffed.
"Do you know who did this ma'am? Do you know if the killer is still in the house?" She asked me.
"No I don't know." I became scared quickly.
"Okay what I want you to do in get in a closet or bathroom and lock the door okay?" The lady asked.
"Okay. I crawled to the bathroom and the door is locked." I told the dispatcher.
"Okay, I have been told the police are there and heading on up okay? You're safe now." She said sweetly.
"Thank you so much." I said and hung up the phone.
I started freaking out again when I noticed all of the blood on my hands. Tears streamed down my face as I heard the bedroom door open and the door being forced open. Two police men walked in and one bent down and reached put to me.
"It's okay, you're with us now. It's safe." He smiled and hesitated but took his hand. It was all a blur and seemed to be in slow motion as we passed the police searching my brothers room, the him being lifted onto a stretcher with a sheet placed over his head. The same goes for when we walked down stairs and police passed us to search the house more, my mom's dead body was carried out of the house with a sheet like my brother's placed over her head and crime scene investigators finished taking pictures of blood all over the place.
When I saw Keely's brother Carson outside I immediately ran to him and cried into his shoulder. He had always been so sweet to me and was like my older brother. I rubbed my back and let me cry. Even stood next to me and calmed me down so that I could answer questions that the police were asking.
"I'm taking you home okay? With Keels, alright? You will be safe there, I will protect you." He smiled warmly and I nodded. "Keels knows not to ask questions until you are ready to talk. Don't feel like you have to." He leaned over and placed a kiss to the top of my head. "It's all going to be okay."
