Good Intentions ⇼ Luke Hemmings

Twenty-Four.

“Hey.” Luke smiled as I sat on the couch. “How was work?”
“Fine.” I grumbled, staring straight ahead.
“Anything interesting happen?” “No.” My voice was low.
“Are you okay?” He scooted towards me, his knee touching mine.
“No, not really.” I couldn’t bring myself to look at him. “I found something out about you today.” I whispered. “And I’m not mad about it, because I have no right to be. I’m just worried.”
“What was it?” His face paled.
“Kira Walker.” I stared at him. “She’s an intern, Luke, and she intends to get you back.”
“I won’t let her.” He spoke immediately, grabbing my hand. “Romy, look… I promise. It was never important. Don’t be mad at me. Please don’t be mad.” He pulled himself closer to me, setting his head on my shoulder. “Please don’t be mad.” When I didn’t respond, he wrapped his arms around my waist, trapping mine against my torso. “Romy.” He whispered. “Romy, what’s wrong?” He squeezed me tighter before allowing me to free my arms. I gently set my hands on his forearms, staring ahead as he nuzzled his face into the crook of my neck.

“Talk to me.” He pleaded, kissing my neck.
“Can you promise me something? I know it’s going to sound silly and stupid and insignificant, but I just need you to promise me something.”
“Anything.” I was silent for a long time.
“Promise me she didn’t mean anything.”
“I promise she didn’t mean anything.” His response was immediate. Grabbing my face, he kissed me. We lied down together and, without even realizing it, fell asleep.

Before we even knew we were taking a nap, we woke up from banging at the door. I jumped up, rushing to through the kitchen to open it. Kaylee and Ashton stood there, Kaylee was gripping Josi’s hand with a worried look on her face.
“Look-” She paused, letting herself into my flat. “There’s an emergency with Steph, and she thinks there’s something wrong with the baby. Cal is out of town so she wants us to take her to the hospital. Can you watch Josi? Please?” Her eyes were huge, pleading.
“Yeah of course.” I smiled, holding my arms out to Josi and picking her up once she ran over to me in her Frozen pajamas. “Take your time.” With a rushed thank you and goodbye, Kaylee and Ashton left. After setting Josi down, she ran over to Luke, giggling as he lifted her up and kissed her cheeks.
“Hey Babe!” He exclaimed, blowing raspberries into her stomach as she giggled loudly. Looking at the time, I realized it was only six.

“Hey, Jos. You hungry?” I asked, going to the kitchen.
“Yes, please!” She ran to me, Luke following in pursuit.
“Wanna help me make some quesadillas?” She grinned as Luke lifted her to sit on the counter.
“Yeah!” After getting all the ingredients out, I let Josi put the cheese, meat, and whatever else she wanted into the tortillas before cooking them up for Josi, Luke, and I. We sat at the table, Josi on Luke’s lap. I couldn’t help but find it undeniably adorable how much she loved him. He was absolutely her favorite out of all of us. And I knew exactly why, too. Luke lived with Kaylee and Ashton for six months when he first came out to Sydney, and the two were left alone for hours on end. Luke didn’t have a job, and Kaylee thought it was more convenient to pay Luke than a daycare. At first, the two would alway butt heads. She was a stubborn four year old, and he was a clueless 22 year old. Josi wanted things done her way, and Luke didn’t really know how to take care of a kid. But, as time went on, Luke learned how to be patient and cooperative, and Josi learned how to listen. Ever since then, the two were unseperable.

“Auntie Rom? Uncle Lukey?” Josi set her food down.
“Yes?” We spoke simultaneously, making eye contact and smiling.
“Mommy says that you guys are gonna be married.” I almost choked on my food as Luke laughed.
“Did she?” He asked as I blushed.
“Yeah! She said you’re gonna be a family like us!” Without being able to stop myself, I looked at Luke and imagined our life if we got married and had a child.
