You Blew My Mind
Prologue
Kiara's POV
"Kiara, get down here!" My mother's voice rang from downstairs to the music room.
I groaned and hit my head on the piano. "I'm coming!" I shouted back as I lazily dragged my body out of the music room.
My mother didn't get it, I had my final piano exam in a few days, and she distracted me every few minutes. She knew that my future depended on that exam, but she didn't care. Simply because she wanted me to be a dancer. Yes, I do dance, but that's not what I have a passion for. Music is my passion and it always will be. If I passed my final exam, I would have been accepted in the best music school in the world. That's an once in a blue moon kind of opportunity, but my mother longed to see me fail because she wanted me to fall into her footsteps. It's bad you know, being the only daughter. There's so much expected from you, and you have to live up to everyone's dreams that they couldn't achieve in their younger days.
I hopped down the steps and walked to the kitchen.
"There you are," my mother smiled at me as she motioned for me to stand next to her.
As I walked to her, I eyed the strangers in the kitchen. I lady about my mother's age and a girl about my age. But they didn't look familiar in any way.
"This is Kiara," my mother smiled at them.
"Kiara, this is Mrs. Styles and her daughter Gemma," my mother introduced me to them.
"Hi," I smiled at them, receiving a somehow mirrored reaction.
"Mrs. Styles was wondering if you'd give her younger cousin some piano lessons," my mother informed me. "He'd like to sign up for his school's talent evening!"
So that's why she called me down to meet them. Normally she wouldn't bother to let me attend the presence of other people.
"I'd love to," I told Mrs. Styles with a smile.
"He's a hand full," Mrs. Styles' daughter-Gemma-chuckled. "He's 9," she shook her head.
"Youngsters are fast learners," I winked at her. "When would you like him to start?"
"Well I was thinking Friday, so that's 4 days from now," Mrs. Styles smiled at me.
"Sounds good. But I'll have to excuse myself, I have to finish my practice, it was nice meeting you," I smiled at them before leaving. I heard faint 'you too''s from the kitchen as I hopped back to the music room.
I wondered how my mother knew Mrs. Styles and her daughter. She never introduced me to them before that day, but they seemed like decent people. I had to admit, I was looking forward to teaching a youngster about music. And at least they gave me four days before they wanted me to start teaching him; which gave me exactly 4 days to practice my song perfectly.
