Camping Trip

Impatience & Long Walks

Outfit:

Rachel's P.O.V.

"Brianna come on!" I yelled from where I was waiting at the front door of our house.

We were meant to be at Calum's house in five minutes and we still hadn't even picked up Sasha or Gabby. As there were too many of us to travel in one car I was driving the four of us and the four boy's were going in Ashton's car. We were all meeting up at Calum's so we could follow them. After all we had no idea where exactly we were going. When the boys invited me they had said it was a surprise where we were going. I liked surprises but heck I was unusually impatient and so had been bugging Ashton about it for ages. Of course he hadn't given in but it was worth a try.

Honestly I was really excited about the camping trip. I loved the boys and got along really well with all four of them. I was convinced camping with them would be great. However the other three girls weren't exactly feeling the same way. It took forever to get Sasha to stop studying long enough to even talk about it with me. And though Gabby loved the boys she really was not keen on spending two weeks in the middle of nowhere with them. Lets just say I had a certain skill when it came to the art of persuasion and so had eventually got them both on board.

When it came to my sister Brianna, she was only coming because mum had told her to. Which I was really glad about if I was being honest. Though Brianna could be very chatty with me she liked to keep to herself. It would definitely be good for her to try something new.

At long last she came to the door, dragging her bag behind her. I raised an eyebrow slightly at how big it was.

"Bringing half the closet are we Bri?" I asked.

She just rolled her eyes, walking past me to head out to the car.

I just grinned, knowing that more likely than not her bag was packed with books more so than clothes. I followed her out to the car, hopping into the driver seat.

"You excited?" I asked, starting up the car.

She shrugged.

"I guess" she mumbled.

"Well I am. I cant wait you know. I cant believe they're keeping it a surprise though. You know I love surprises but seriously this has been killing me. Normally I can get it out of Ashton at least.. or Luke, he seems to break under pressure but neither of them have told me anything and its driving me crazy" I began rambling.

Brianna replied simply with a murmur of 'mmm-hmm'. I could tell she was nervous because she was tapping on the dashboard as if se were playing piano. She did that whenever she was anxious or nervous. There was no need for her to be though. The boys were great, she was gonna enjoy herself.

I continued rambling on about the trip and about the boys until eventually we picked up Gabby and Sasha. Climbing into the car, Gabby had her ukulele in hand. Sasha brought a guitar with her and Brianna looked back at them longingly, obviously missing her piano. It was then I realised I was gonna be the only person on this trip who didn't have some kind of insane music talent. All of the boys could play instruments aswell but when it came to me I could barely play a triangle. I distinctly remembered being kicked out of our national school band because my rhythm had been so off when I was playing the tambourine - however that happened. Both me and Brianna had taken piano lessons together at first but I had so bad that I had given up. Brianna had continued on and become amazing however.

Although the boys had all tried profousley to teach me something I failed miserably. Even they had eventually given up on me.

When we finally arrived at Calum's house the boys were sitting around Ashton's car chatting. Once I had stopped the car, making sure there was enough room for Ashton's car to pull out, I climbed out quickly to go over and greet them. The other three girls stayed in the car however.

"Well look who finally showed up!" Ashton called out from where he was perched on the hood of the car.

I held my hands up in surrender.

"What can I say? This beauty doesn't just happen" I replied, indicating to myself.

He scanned me quickly before shrugging.

"So are you guys ready to go?" Calum interrupted as Ashton got off of the car.

I nodded.

"We are.. Any of you care to tell me exactly where we're ready to go...?" I asked hopefully, looking at each of their faces.

They all shook their heads firmly to which I sighed loudly.

"Ashton?" I asked, pulling the best puppy-dog face I could manage. Of all the boys I was definitely closest with Ashton. I could normally manage to get anything out of him which is why I was so surprised he had managed to keep his mouth shut about this.

He sighed.

"Rach for once could you just try and be a little bit patient? You're going to be finding out in a little while, okay?" his voice was amused.

I rolled my eyes.

"Pleeease? I'm dying here Ash" I muttered.

He chuckled.

"You'll survive. Now come one let's get going" he shoved me playfully back in the direction of my car.

"And please try not to get lost?" he yelled out as I got back into the car to which I rolled my eyes.

The boys pulled out of the drive way ahead of us and we followed closely behind. The drive was longer than I had expected lasting over two hours without so much as a text from any of the boys but eventually they pulled into a carpark. It was just outside of a large forest. Once the car pulled to a stop the four of us got out of the car.

"Is this where we're camping?" Gabby asked sounding a tad worried.

Calum nodded excitedly walking over to our car.

"Yeah, there's this lake on the far side of the forest. It's really lovely. That's where we'll be camping.. It's only a few miles walk" He told us, leaning against the car on his elbow, his eyes trained on Gabby.

"Oi! Cal, get your ass over here and stop flirting!" Michael yelled out, pulling out one of the bags out of the boot of Ashton's car.

Calum winked at Gabby quickly before heading back over to help the boys remove the bags.

"Walk? A few miles?" Brianna's eyes were wide.

I shrugged.

"I suppose we'll have to. Though I really don't want to walk all that way with my bag" I replied with a shrug.

The girls all took their bags out of the car and headed over to the boys to find out exactly how long the walk to the campsite was. I was leaning into the boot of the car to pull out my bag when suddenly a voice behind me made me jump.

"You know I could help you out with carrying your bag if you want" he offered.

I spun around to face him quickly.

"God Ashton, you nearly gave me a heart attack!" I told him, clutching a hand over my heart quickly.

"Don't do that!" I added, laughing.

I pulled my bag out and closed the boot, then turned to face him.

"I appreciate the offer hun but how on earth would you carry my bag along with yours and the tent?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

The boys had brought four tents along with them and so each of them had to carry a tent with them along with their own bag. Luke and Calum would be sharing one tent and Michael and Ashton would be sharing another. The other two were for us in which we could share out in any ways we wanted. Brianna and I would be sharing one and so would Gabby and Sasha. That was the plan anyways. Though honestly I had a feeling that arrangement wouldn't last long. The girls and boys were bound to be mismatched before too long.

Ashton shrugged.

"I can put mine on my back and carry yours in one hand and the tent in another" he replied easily, giving me a wide grin.

I rolled my eyes but grinned anyways.

"Ash there is no way in hell I'm letting you carry my bag along with yours and the tent" I told him firmly, picking up my bag with one hand to prove my point though it was extremely heavy.

Once I had locked the car we headed back over to the group where Michael seemed to be explaining animatedly exactly what the campsite looked like and all that we were going to do. And with that the eight of us took off into the forest.

Calum wasn't kidding before when he said it was a few miles. For the first while I chatted away, trying to get the girls to chat a bit more but after a while I was so tired from walking and carrying my bag that I just couldn't talk anymore and so we walked in silence. It felt like forever that we walked and I was starting to regret not letting Ashton carry my bags. My arms were starting to hurt extremely bad.

At long last we could see the lake.

"Guys this is it!" Michael announced loudly, dumping his bags on the ground and walking straight over to the edge of the lake.

"Praise the lord!" I exclaimed, dropping my bag carelessly.

Ashton chuckled at me, leaving his things down near mine. I noticed that despite herself Brianna had walked over towards the water to marvel at the beauty of the area. As Michael was over there they started talking though I couldn't really hear what they were saying.

"Well c'mon guys we should probably should get to setting everything up. It might take a while and we want to get it all done before dark" Luke told us after a few minutes.

I nodded in agreement.

And with that we began setting up the tents, and I honestly hoped that over the trip everyone was going to bond.
