The Law of The Jungle

I smiled at all of my birthday messages. The day was finally here. I was finally an adult.

"Happy birthday kiddo," my father greeted when she made her way downstairs, "have any plans?"
"Nah," I shrugged, "I'm just gonna go out into the woods when I get home, alright?"
He nodded, "just, be careful. There are wild animals in there,"
"Okay dad," I smiled kissing his cheek, "have fun at work,"
"I always do," he laughed

"Oh you guys didn't have to do this," I giggled looking at her locker.
Kasey, Ryleigh, And Gabby grinned, "yes we did! Happy birthday!"
They squeezed me tightly in a hug.

My locker had been all decorated by The three. They tapped paper letters with glitter onto it to spell out my name. And all around that were pictures of us a
all through the years. It was a tradition for the girls in the class to go all out for eachothers birthdays.

"We need to go to the frozen yogurt place after school," gabby told me.
I nodded, "that sounds good,"
We started to walk to their first class of the day. I immediately spotted my boyfriend, Liam. He was with his friends Niall Louis Harry and Zayn. Ryleigh and Gabby were not to thrilled to see him. For some reason they were against me going out with Liam.

When I asked them why, they only responded with a "he gives a weird vibe". I didn't really find that to be much of a plausible reason, and I really liked him, so I went with my heart. And I was pretty happy. He was so sweet and such a gentleman. Not to mention that he was extremely attractive to such a point that I felt a little insecure about myself. He was too good for me, and I was surely replaceable.
Niall spotted me first and grinned, giving a small wave. I giggled, he was too adorable.

He then nudged Liam and flicked his head over to me. Liam turned and we made eye contact for a split second before he broke out into a huge grin. He came over and hugged me.

"Happy Birthday Elle," he smiled.
"Thank you," I hugged him tightly back.
He kissed my cheek and slung his arm around my shoulders, bringing me over to the guys.
"Well well well we heard someone's finally 18," Zayn smirked.
"Yep," I grinned, "you can't tease me about it anymore,"
"You're still the baby of the group." Niall pointed out, "you can't escape that,"
"I've learnt to get over it," I assured.

The bell rang.

"Oops, I have to get to class," I groaned.
"Sorry," Liam grinned.
"Bye," I smiled kissing his cheek.
"Bye," he let me go.

I scurried down the hallway and popped into my first period "Australian. Liiterature" class.
"Elle," my teacher, Mr MacDonald scolded with a playful shake of the head, "you ruined your perfect attendance!"

"I'm sorry I'm sorry!" I laughed softly.
"I'll let it slide since Gabby and Ryleigh here tell me that today is your birthday," he smiled.
"Thank you," I grinned, taking my seat in the back corner.
"Alright class, so were going to start a new unit," he stated, "I thought it would be fun to read some folk tales,"

I like the sound of this. It sounds so much better than reading all of these novels.
"I was going to let you chose which one you all wanted to read as a class, but instead I chose." He grinned, "so I chose werewolves,"
I had turned to Kasey Rayleigh and Gabby to see their reaction to the pick, and they both went pale white. I tilted my head to the side.

"What's the matter?" I asked, "scared of werewolves or something?"
"No," gabby laughed awkwardly, "yeah right,"
Ryleigh didn't say a word, only looked straight ahead. Kasey shifted uncomfortably.
I quirked an eyebrow at the but decided not to push the issue. If they wanted to be weird then it wasn't my concern.

He passed out the reading books. I took mine and examined the front cover. "The law of the jungle" The illustration was a symbol of some sorts. I felt like I had seen it somewhere. But I couldn't place where I'd seen it.

"Now this is considered a fiction," mr MacDonald stated, "but at the time it was written, it was believed that werewolves were real, which we obviously know to be false now,"
I tsked softly.

How could someone believe that werewolves were actually real?

This was probably going to be the highlight of my day. Finally, I got to spend some time by myself and not be reminded of all the new responsibilities and stress that was to come along with my now adult age. In the woods, everything was so calm. There were no worries. No essays. No work. No bills. Everything just...was. And nothing questioned it.

I wish that life could be like that sometimes.

I took a breath, inhaling the crisp Forrest air. Leaves crunched underneath my feet as I surged on further and further. It was going to get dark soon, but I didn't plan on staying long anyway. Just enough to escape reality for just a bit.

I know that's what I needed most of all. Things were going so well for the most part. But they definitely changed since I started dating Liam. Before, I hung out with Luke Calum, Michael, and Ashton- all boys who lived in my neoghborhood- plus Rayleigh Gabby and Kasey. But since I started dating Liam, the four boys had kept their distance. I knew that gabby Kasey and ry were not too keen on him, but they still stuck by my side.

I haven't spoken much to any of the four guys. And to top it off, Ashton was nowhere to be seen. He graduated 2 years ago, so I was used to not seeing him at school, but I still saw him when I got home. Our parents were really good friends, and I was definitely closest to him out of all the guys.

Why couldn't I have it both ways? Why could I date Liam and have all my friends? It's not like Liam was bad. He was really smart and sweet and he didn't cause trouble. He was well liked in school.
I sighed and decided not to worry about all of it. I walked in as far as I usually do and looked around. It was a nice time to be outside. More leaves crunched nearby. I turned and gasped at the sight.
A large wolf was edging around the tree line. It had black fur and even from my spot, I could see it's green eyes. It was much bigger than any wolf I'd seen, taller than me.

It saw me, but kept it's distance. I watched it for a moment. It's green eyes peered over at me with curiosity as to why I wasn't already running like hell. I don't know why. I guess in my head, I imagined it chasing me as I screamed in terror. Maybe if I didn't move then it would leave me alone. But instead of running away, it got closer.

So I was gonna wait, but I wanted it get in the Halloween spirit! How am I gonna update three stories? Well I have no life, so no need to fear!
