Chapter 8
Chapter 8:
"Oh my goodness, Jacob! She's here!" A woman says to a man just outside the airport doors. Immediately the man looks up. Quickly they walk to us. I give them a small smile and the woman pulls me into a hug.
I awkwardly hug her back.
"Alice!" The woman says close to tears. The man pulls her back and smiles at me.
"Don't make her uncomfortable Beth." The man says, with a small chuckle. I giggle.
"It's alright," I say. Jason smiles at us.
"I have to get a picture," Jason states pulling out a camera. I nod and stand in front of my parents. Jacob and Beth Brooks. Quickly Jason takes a picture and smiles.
"Why don't we head home? We have your room semi set up." My dad says. I nod and smile.
"Okay," I answer and he leads us to the car. Each boy opening a car door for us.
The drive was only 15 minutes and very silent. It wasn't exactly a awkward silence, more of a I-don't-really-know-you-so-what-do-I-say silence. I mean Jason knew a little about me but not much.
"So, we are here." My dad states as we pull into the drive way of a two story house. Quickly we all get out of the car and make our way inside the house.
"Boys, why don't you make lunch while Alice and I tour the house?" My mother suggests to my brother and father. The boys look worried but nod anyway, then they smile and walk away.
My mother grabs my hand and drags me down a hall way. All over the hall ways are pictures of my parents, Jason and two more kids about 2 years younger than me. Finally we make it to the living room and I sit on the couch across from her.
"Why did you start searching for us?" My mother asks in disgust, causing me to look at her in shock.
"I didn't, Jason found me." I state still in shock.
"Yeah right, I don't believe you." Beth says glaring at me.
"Why are you mad that I'm here?" I ask getting out of my shock of her new treatment.
"Because your gonna ruin everything I've built!" She says loudly.
"I'm sorry," I whisper with tears in my eyes.
"Before they come in here I want you to leave and never come back." She says loudly right as my dad and brother walk in. But she didn't know that they did because her back was to the door.
"Beth?" Jason asked her.
"Yes?" She said rudely facing them. Then noticing they were there changed her attitude. "Is lunch ready?" She asked sweetly.
"No, Alice may I speak with you please?" My dad asked. I nodded and stood up kept my head down. Quickly he lead me out of the room and led me down the hall to the kitchen.
"What did she say to you?" He asks after a few moments of silence.
"She said nothing," I whisper looking at the ground.
"That's a lie and we both know it," my dad says sternly. I nod and look up through my eye lashes. "Now, what did she say?" He asks again.
"She said that by me coming here I'm ruining what she has built." I whisper as the tears come back to my eyes.
"She's not your real mom. She's my second wife. Your guys real mom died after the twins were born." My dad whispered, I look at him.
"Why didn't you tell me?" I whisper.
"She promised to be nice to you." He answered.
"Why did you put me up for adoption?" I finally whisper after a moment. He looks sad when I ask this.
"Your mother was really good with you when you were a baby. After she passed I couldn't take care of you without seeing her. It got so bad that Jason had to take care of you. Finally I decided it would be best to give you to a better home." He says quietly. Quickly I hug him.
"It's okay dad, it was for the best." I say quietly.
"It wasn't okay baby girl. It was a bad decision on my part." He whispers while stroking my hair.
This is a nice story. Keep up the great work! :)
