Behind Enemy Lines

Calum felt Hayley tense in his grasp. It was to late to react, because he already spotted her. They did not get the angry expression from him that they thought they would. Instead, his eyes were wide and he got pale.

"what is she doing here?" He asked, "I didn't believe it,"
She and Calum looked at eachother, unable to think of an excuse.
"Whatever that can wait, you guys need to get out of here," he rushed out, "they're coming, Ryder and Luke and some others, they know you guys are all here,"
Immediately one of the other boys who was sitting around the fire slumped back and looked away guiltily.

They all noticed.

"Nick, do you have anything to say for yourself?" Michael snapped.
"I didn't know he'd come," Nick muttered.
"Who did you tell?" Calum glared
"R-ryder," The boy mumbled.

Calum cursed. Hayley looked up at him terrified.
Calum sighed, "relax, I'm not letting you get hurt,"
"My dad is going to kill both of us," she frowned.
"We'll be fine," he mumbled into her hair.

Ashton watched the exchange thoughtfully. He never would have thought that his little sister would be so close and comfortable with Calum. But then again, he never thought he'd be friends with Calum either.

"Well what are we going to do?" Michael huffed.
"Gabby is in my car," Ashton said, "She can take Hayley and Maria home,"
Calum nodded and looked over at Michael, hoping he would agree as well. He was reluctant about letting Luz go off, but he knew Ashton and he trusted him. Besides, Ashton wouldn't be playing around if Hayley was involved.

Michael nodded.

Luz looked at him concernedly.
"I'll be back soon alright?" He told her, "Just stay together,"
Hayley was reluctant to leave as well. She knew that they had already been caught, so its not like it would change anything. She didn't want Calum to get hurt. Why couldnt they all leave?

"What's wrong?" He whispered loud enough so only she could hear.
"I don't want you to get hurt," She whispered back with sad eyes.
He gave a small smile, "Don't worry about me, I'll be fine,"
"Promise?" She asked

He laughed softly, "Yes, I promise,"
He rested his forhead on hers and kissed her sweetly. She smiled and hugged him so tight.
"Uh, guys we have to go," Ashton said awkwardly, "Everyone will be here soon,"
Hayley frowned.

"I'll see you soon," He assured her.
She finally let go and got up. Luz stood as well and the pair followed Ashton out of the woods.
"Tell her to take you to the lakehouse," He said, "You'll be safe there. I'll come pick you up after,"
He added the last part as he looked at Hayley. Her stomach dropped. She was definitely in for it when she got home tonight.

They got to the car. Gabby saw them coming and got out.
"Take them," He told her, "Now,"
She nodded without another word and hopped into the front seat. Hayley and Luz got in, clasping their hands together as they sat in the back.
"He said to the lakehouse," Hayley informed Gabby.
"Okay," She nodded.

Calum, Michael and the two boys who were also at the fire quickly put it out. Ryder was known for playing dirty, so they werent going to give him more opprotunities. If he wanted a fight, he was going to get one.
They listened for a moment and heard the sound of leaves crunching. Ashton returned, this time with Ryder, Luke, and a third guy. Calum didn't know what to expect, seeing as Ashton had secretly joined his gang. Luke was in on it too.

"Where is she?" Ryder snarled
Calum smirked, deciding to irk him further by playing dumb, "Who?"
Ryder responded just as Calum figured he would, "I'm not playing games with you Hood, where is Hayley?"

"She's certainly not here," Calum shrugged nonchalantly.
"If you think for one moment that you're stealing her away from me then you're wrong," Ryder spat, edging closer, "She's mine,"
Calum quirked an eyebrow amusedly.
This means war.

"Calm down, pacing isn't going to change what happened," Gabby told Hayley.
"I'm dead, I'm so dead," Hayley shook her head, "Theres no way I can even see Calum now,"
"I'm sure there's a way," Gabby assured, resting her hand on Hayley's shoulder.
"No there isnt!" Hayley cried, "My dad will not let me out ever again, I'll be like fricken repunzel,"
Gabby rolled her eyes, "You're so dramatic,"

"This is a serious situation," Hayley whacked her.
Luz sat on the couch watching. She had no idea what to say, so she just stayed quiet. Her eyes followed Hayley as she paced, going back and forth constantly.

They were surprised when the door suddenly opened and the boys strolled in. Michael was first, and Luz rushed to him, hugging him so tight. He smiled and mumbled sweet sayings in her ear, immediately calming her anxiety. Ashton was next, and he and Gabby had a similar reunion.
Luke entered, looking injury free except for his hand. Hayley only saw cuts on his knuckles.
Her stomach dropped. Where was Calum. She was on the edge of tears as he walked in. Relief washed over her as she went right over, hugging him.

He wrapped his arms around her and rested his chin on her head.
"I'm so happy you're okay," she whispered, "I was so worried,"
"I told you not to worry about me," he whined.
"You can't tell me not to care," she told him, "because I always will,"
He smiled and kissed her, "I'll always care too,"

She felt him tense. She leant back and looked up at him.
"Are you hurt?" She asked skeptically.
"Just a little," he shrugged.
"Let me see," she ordered.
"I'm fine," he whined like a five year old.
"Calum," she scolded.
He sighed and lifted up his shirt. Up his side was a knife wound. It looked like it hurt like hell.
She gasped, "you got stabbed?!"

"It's not that bad," he grimaced.
"Calum!" She cried, "you got fucking stabbed, don't try and play it off like nothing,"
Before he could protest, she dragged him to the bathroom and cleaned it.
