Behind Enemy Lines

"Run away?" Hayley rose her eyebrows.
He nodded, "think about it, no Ryder, no parents. Just you and me baby, against the world,"
She sat up, straddling his hips, eyeing him sleepily.

"Really?" She tilted her head to the side curiously.
He nodded, "I'm serious,"

"Well how would we even?" She asked, "because our dad's will look for us,"
"That's easy," he shrugged, "we could fake our deaths or something like that."
He was speaking about it so nonchalantly, and to Hayley, it seemed like a good idea. It was definitely something she considered seriously.

She loved Calum, she knew it. If she left, they could live happily together. If they stayed, then she'd be whisked off into a marriage she did not want with someone she did not like. But at the same time, she'd be hurting the ones she loved.

"'Maybe," she said softly, "but won't it make our friends sad?"
He nodded, "probably. But they don't understand how it is to be separated constantly. I hate it,"
"You're right," she nodded, "but I think that we should tell someone,"
"Ashton? And I guess the Luke Michael and your friends. Just so they know you aren't really dead," He suggested, "because he's not against us, and Ash could keep us updated with everything,"

"Well that means that gabby will probably know too," she warned, "he tells her everything,"
"I'm fine with that," he smiled, "I just want to get out of this stupid town,"
She smiled and kissed him.

"Round two?" He smirked
"I like the sound of that," she giggled.

So the plan was to leave on Wednesday night. It was now Monday, which gave her such a limited time to pack her things. Meanwhile, she had to keep it all hidden so her dad wouldn't find out.

Where were they going? New York.

Calum had a lost of friends who were in the drug business there. Hayley had pleaded with him to clear the slate, but he refused. There was more than enough money in that business to support the both of them. They weren't exactly poor at the moment either.

Hayley had told Ashton immediately. It was a very emotional conversation between both of them. They both cried, but once again Ashton did what his heart told him. And that was to let her go this time. He told her that he was going to visit her as often as he could. He wasn't worried about them. He knew that Calum would take care of her and make her really happy. The only sad part was that he was going to miss her a lot.

He had agreed to help them escape too. They decided to go with the faking deaths plan, by getting the car off of a nearby cliff and into the water, Luke and Michel would take care of that. Then Ashton would tell his father that he had seen them together, which would imply that they had decided to die together. There, both of their tracks would be covered. No one would look for them after that.
Hayley did not get cold feet. She wanted this. She didn't want to hurt Luz or Jackie or Gab, but she couldn't live like this anymore and if they surely understood. She knew Jackie especially wanted her to do this too.

*wednesday night*

Hayley heard a tap on her window. She peeked out and saw Calum. She gave him a thumbs up and grabbed the bag she packed. She checked out in the hallway before seeing that the coast was clear.
Tiptoeing, she saw that Ashton's light was on and peeked her head in.

"You're leaving?" He whispered
She nodded, "yeah,"

His eyes welled up with tears, "I love you bubbles, so much. And I'm going to miss you lots,"
"I'm going to miss you to Ash," she bit her lip and wiped her eyes.
He hugged her tightly, "call me when you land alright?"
"Yep," she nodded

He sighed and watched her leave before burying his head in his pillow and crying the rest of the night.

Meanwhile, she had creeped past her fathers door, he was fast asleep. She didn't even bother to look in.
She was done with him. Done.

Once she got outside, Calum greeted her,
"All ready?" He asked
She nodded, "yep, let's go before my dad wakes up,"
He agreed and they got in the car.

"Luke and Michael trashed the car in the water," he explained, "all we have to do is get to the airport,"
"Easy enough," she smiled,
He nodded and clasped their hands together, giving her hand a small squeeze.

"I love you," she smiled
"I love you too princess," he kissed her temple.

This was it, they were taking off. Hayley looked out the window, down at the only town she'd ever lived in slowly disappearing as they hovered in the night sky.
She smiled and leaned her head on Calum's shoulder, yawning.
"Go to sleep," he hummed
She nodded and closed her eyes.

"I see it," Hayley giggled pointing.
Calum smiled, "mmhmm,"
She looked up at him with a childish grin, "it looks like in the movies,"
He laughed softly, "haven't you ever seen it in real life before?"
"No," she shook her head, "it's so cool,"

They landed and soon, Hayley was exposed to her first breath of american air. It didn't look much different, bit she could feel that she wasn't in Australia. Calum held her hand tightly so that he wouldn't lose her in the terminal. She was so entranced by all the new things. He watched her, she looked so happy and interested in everything. That's when he realized how sheltered her father kept her from the
world.

He couldn't wait to experience everything with her. This was his new life. He already loved it, just the two of them. No one to keep them from doing what they wanted. And it was great.
