Chapter 29

Harry's busted lips move against mine with passion that I've never felt from him before. His bruised hands cup my face, bringing me closer.

"Jess," he moans as I run my fingers through his hair. I've only kissed him a few times but this is by far more meaningful than the others.

He flips us around to where I'm leaned against the counter and he stands in front of me. His fingers move from my face to tug at the bottom of my shirt, pulling it up slightly. I run my hands down his bare back, carefully avoiding the scars that litter him.

I pull away after a few minutes of this sweet torture and can't help but smile at the pout on his perfect face.

"Are you feeling okay?" I ask him.

"Yes, I am feeling fine, Dr. Jess." he chuckled. I roll my eyes at the name and walk back into his room.

"Lay down." I instruct, patting the bed.

"Are you asking me to sleep with you?" He jokes as he kicks off his boots.

"No, I am not." My cheeks flame.

"Only if you lay down with me." He counters.

"I need to call my parents." I say and he frowns. "I'll be back." I promise before stepping out into the hallway.

"Hello, Jessica." My mother chirps upon answering. I hate her calling me by my full name but there's no use in arguing with her.

"How is Denver?" I ask.

"Lovely. You're father's at a meeting about opening up another resort in Bora Bora." She says loudly over the noise in the background.

"That would be great," I lie. Him opening another resort equals us moving away. Again.

"How is Anna?" She asks and for a moment I'm confused. I forgot that when I had a brief call
with her earlier I told her that I would be staying with Anna for the weekend.

"She's fine." I quickly say.

"Great. Well I'm off to go see if I can find something to eat. Have fun." She hangs up and I slump against the wall.

I recover myself and begin walking back to the bedroom but stop short. I don't want to snoop around Harry's house but an Advil will help him feel better.

I decide against my pestering self and walk downstairs to get him a glass of water and two Advil.

"Where were you?" Harry asks when I return, peeling his eyes off of the television.

I walk by him and set the water and pills on the nightstand.

"I got you something to ease your pain." I say.

"I don't need anything." He states.

"Just take the pills." I cross my arms and he gives in, quickly taking the pills with a sip of water. Once he finishes, I kick my shoes off and crawl into the bed next to him. Instead of laying down, I sit up against the headboard, a few inches from Harry's body.

"You never told me," he says while we're watching tv.

"Told you what?"

"Why you were avoiding me." He looks up at me.

I carefully explain to him about my father thinking his was a bad influence and that he forbidden me to speak to him again. Now it seems like it never happened considering where I am now.

"That's bullshit." He huffs.

"I couldn't just tell my dad no." I reply.

"Whatever." He turns back to the television. "Why didn't you just lie to him about not seeing me."

"Because," I close my eyes, "Because I thought that he'd know what was best for me." I brace myself for his lashing out, but he doesn't say anything.

"Maybe he's right." He surprises me by saying.

"What?" I'm confused.

"This obviously can't work out without me hurting you." He motions between us, sitting up.

"You're not going to hurt me." I defend him.

"You're wrong. I hurt everyone I come across." He climbs off of the bed

"Stop saying that."

"I'm just trying to protect you, Jess. Before you get hurt too." I choose not to tell him that he's already hurt me.

"I'm not going to get hurt!" I say, knowing every word is false.

"Stop trying to defend me!" His voice raises.

"I'm telling you the truth!"

"Jess, I like you." He blurts out.

My breath hitches in my throat. "What?"

"I keep trying to tell myself that I don't but I can't help it. I like you, and I know you feel the same way." His green eyes blaze.

"I do." I say softly, climbing off the bed.

"That's why I'm telling you that you should forget about me. Before you get hurt." His hands cup my face.

"I'm not going anywhere." I respond.

"Good," he kisses my forehead.

"What are we then?" I ask the question that's been nagging me this whole time.

"Huh?"

"We aren't dating because you have never taken me on a date." I sit on the edge of the bed.

"You're right," he decides, "So where do you want to go for our date?" He asks.

"It's supposed to be a surprise." I pout.

"Oh right," he says, remembering what every guy should know.

"Is this a date?" He asks, confused.

"No this isn't a date," I throw a pillow at him.

"Why not? We're together, aren't we?"

"That isn't a date. Dates are supposed to be traditional and lovely and-" I ramble.

"You sound like you know what you're doing." He states.

"Have you never planned a date before?" I ask.

"Yeah, but it wasn't with someone I like. I just did it so I could get some girl-" he stops when I frown.

"Just be original about it." I tell him.

"I already have something in mind." He grins like a child on Christmas.
