You and I
Chapter One
I walked down the spiral stair case of the two story house my family and I lived in as my mother called my name. “Katherine, get down here!”
“How many times have I asked you to call me Katie?” I groaned and jumped the last three steps before adjusting my gray t-shirt and tucking a strand of my light brown hair behind my ear. “Who’s this?” I asked, motioning towards the young guy sitting in one of the light pink chairs in the living room.
“This,” My mother smiled as if pleased with herself. “Is Brian.”
“Okay...?”
“Brian here told me how you two met at the bookstore the other day and how he was absolutely intrigued with you.”
“Oh! Brian! Right. Nice to see you again.” I smiled politely and clapped my hands behind my back. How the hell did he even find out who I was? All I told him was my name. I met the guy once last week and he was boring as hell. “Anyway, I'm headed out with Ellie and Kelsi. We're meeting Mary Ann and Jay at the movies to see Guardians of the Galaxy.”
“Oh, no you're not. Brian wants to take you out to dinner tonight.”
“Oh... well...”
“I understand if she wants to go out with her friends, Mrs. Anderson. Maybe we could some other time.” He smiled at me. I quickly agreed and shook his hand.
“See, mom? He gets it.” I shrugged. “Here, you can have my number...” I took his phone from his hands and punched in my number before saving it to his contact list. “And text me when you want to reschedule.” I smiled sweetly at him. “Now, I've really gotta go,” I looked down at my phone as the angry texts from Ellie to 'hurry my ass up'. “I'm being threatened. Bye!” I walked out the front door and rolled my eyes as I ran to my friend's car.
“Jeez, what took you so long?” Ellie asked as I climbed into the passenger seat.
“Mom was setting me up on a date.” I shrugged. “Anyway, Guardians of the Galaxy!” I clapped excitedly as my best friend pulled off.
“Okay, Kelsi's mom totally freaked out and took her keys from her so we need to pick her up.” I nodded as Ellie explained the game plan. “So, after we pick her up, we head to the theater, I'll get everyone's money for the tickets, you get the popcorn, and Kelsi will get the drinks so we can make up for the time we're losing from picking Kels up.”
“Got it.” I tried to keep up with everything she was saying as my phone buzzed in my pocket several times. “Ugh, hold on. Let me see if this is work.”
Ashley: Katie, I need you to come in tomorrow at eleven instead of two. Can you do that for me? I'm desperate.
Ashley: Please? I'll even give you a raise.
Ashley: Everyone called out... well, not everyone, but Selina and Susana did.
Three missed calls: Work.
Four missed calls: Ashley
I sighed and replied to my manager.
Katie: Yeah, no problem. But my raise better be a good one ;P
Ashley: Bless your soul, child.
Katie: I'm older than you, boo.
Ashley: Yeah, but I'm in charge of you.
I laughed and tucked my phone away in my front pocket. “I gotta work at eleven tomorrow. Selina and Susana called out, so staying over tonight is a no-go. I gotta get some sleep.” I explained as we pulled up to Kelsi's house. She was currently yelling at her mother. “Oh, do you have my extra clothes?” I asked Ellie and pointed to my... 'mother approved' clothing.
“Yeah, in my trunk.”
“Awesome.”
“I'm twenty-one years old, mother! It's just a fucking tattoo!” Kelsi screamed as she climbed into the car, tossing two duffel bags and a backpack into the backseat and interrupting the conversation Ellie and I were having. “Is it cool if I stay with one of you for a while? Mom's flipped her shit over my tattoo.”
“Duh.” Ellie rolled her eyes as we pulled away from her house. Ellie quickly explained the game plan to Kelsi as we drove to the theater before turning the radio on.
“About time you got here!” Justice (whom we all call Jay) yelled as soon as she saw us. “We thought you were gonna miss the movie!” Mary Ann walked up next to Jay with her arms loaded down with popcorn, sodas, and candies. “We got your snacks for you to save you time, so all you need are your tickets.” Justice grabbed her food from Mary Ann and began to pass out everyone else's.
“You're a saint!” I yelled as I went to the counter to get the tickets. As soon as I purchased the movie tickets, I grabbed them and turned to run back to my friends... unfortunately I hit a concrete wall. “Holy... shit!” I yelled and grabbed my nose, the tickets flying out of my hands.
“Oh my god, I'm so sorry!” A male voice apologized as he grabbed my shoulders. “Are you okay?”
“Oh my god, am I bleeding? I'm bleeding aren't I? Dammit, now I'm going to have to get plastic surgery and become one of those girls. What are you? Made out of fucking bricks?!” I demanded before opening my eyes to see my... concrete wall. “Wow, you're pretty.” The words spurted out of my mouth before I could stop them.
“Katie!” Justice ran up beside me to check on me. “Are you okay? Wow, rude much, dude.” I shook my head and bent over to pick up the tickets. “By the way, you are very pretty.” She added as if it was an afterthought.
“Hey, I saw him first!” I joked with my best friend although my voice held a hint of seriousness. The rule was do not approach a guy after he had been 'claimed' by a friend.
“I mean... do you have any friends?” Justice smiled suggestively and winked her left green (due to contacts) eye.
“Over there...” The guy laughed as Justice went off to flirt. That was a new thing for her. Kinda. Not really. Sometimes she was the shy good girl and other times she tried to jump a guy's bones in Wal-Mart. “I'm Liam, by the way.” He introduced himself with a smirk.
“Katie.” I smiled and shook his hand all while becoming very aware of my clothes. “I swear I'm not always dressed like this. This is just to appease my mother. I... I have extra clothes in my bag and... I'm rambling. Sorry. You're pretty... uhm... wow. I should just stop talking.” I mentally zipped my lips.
“It's all okay... Katie.” He smiled, pulling his lip ring between his teeth. I nearly melted at the way he said my name. No, Katie. Stop it. You will never see him again. Ever.
“Right. I'm going to change now. I grabbed my bag from Ellie and let myself wallow in my embarrassment as I sped walked to the bathroom. “I can't believe I'm such an idiot.” I grumbled to myself as I chose a stall and quickly changed. I felt much more like myself. Of course being myself when I walked out of the door, there was Liam. “Are you stalking me?”
He chuckled, “You're not the only needing the facilities babe.”
My eyes narrowed, “Don't call me babe.”
He took a small step towards me keeping that dumb smirk on his full lips. “Babe,” he taunted.
My narrowed eyes rolled in annoyance. “Listen, you can just take all of that-”
“All of what?” he interrupted.
“All of this,” I responded boldly running my hand down his chest. Holy fuck! Those feel good. NO! Stop Katie do not do that.
Liam grabbed my hand stopping it before I could move it away. “If you want to touch me babe I can give you plenty of places to go for it.” He spoke in a low voice that sent unwarranted shivers down my spine.
“Katherine! What the hell are you doing?” Ellie's voice filled my ears as she appeared. “I turn my back for two seconds and all hell breaks lose. Justice is making out with some blond guy, Kelsi is arguing on the phone with her mother, Mary Ann's disappeared and could be dead for all I know, and you're feeling up this guy. Who is he?” She demanded.
“He's uh-” I stumbled for words.
