Expect the Unexpected ON HOLD

Chapter Four

"Why do you do that?" Ashton asked.

We were on our way back to my house since I got a text from my mum saying there was something important she needed to tell me, I didn't mention that to Ashton though because whatever it is, it can't be good.

I gave him a confused look, he gestured to the window where I was once again drawing. The flower, "Ashton sucks", and the 5sos tally symbol that I had previously drawn on the ride to the 'Heaven' were now covered in a new layer of fog but still visible enough to see what they were.

"Some days when it's the right amount of cold and the windows are foggy enough, whatever you draw will stay there even when it's not foggy but you can only really see them if the sun shines on the window in a certain angle, so I do it every time the windows are like this just in case it happens to be one of those days. I even have some doodles from years ago still on my car window. I don't know, I guess it's just my way of having my 'forever' in life even though everyone says things aren't meant to last forever, I refuse to believe that." I ramble on.

I keep my gaze on the window to prevent Ashton from seeing my sad expression. I didn't even notice I was drawing until he said something and now that he has, I can't stop thinking about her.

That was our thing, drawing on the windows of each others cars and going to our secret place where the sun shone perfectly to reveal them. They were never of anything special, just random doodles and whatever came to mind at the time but they didn't need to be because they were memories made with her.

"Wow" Ashton muttered.

I didn't respond for a bit because what can you really reply to "wow" other than asking what he meant by that. Just as I was about to, he speaks up again.

"You really are something else Violet."

"Is that a good thing?" I finally speak up.

"Course! Just means you're different. I like different," He assures me.

I feel my cheeks redden and try to hide it by looking back to the window but obviously not quick enough since he already saw and laughed lightly. I pointed to the road and told him to turn down the next street.

"Well, you're surprisingly normal," I giggle.

His expression changes to one of either fake shock or constipation, It's hard to tell but whatever it is, it makes it very hard for me not to laugh at him. I try to stifle my laughs with my hand but it doesn't work.

"Why is that so surprising?" He asks, laughing too.

"I would be stupid not to question your sanity. I mean, you did ask me out without knowing anything about me, not even my name. And to make it weirder, we met at a grocery store. Who in their right mind finds a date at a grocery store? Plus I looked like a homeless person and couldn't even afford all my junk food. So yeah after all that I thought there had to something really fucked up about you but nope, you're pretty normal apart from the fact you have a cuter giggle than me." I grin.

I quickly point to what house is mine and he pulls over. He looks at me with an amusing look before breaking out in a really girly giggle. I crack up at that, it's the cutest and most weirdest thing I've ever heard. I hold my stomach as I hunch over in fits of giggles almost to the point where I'm cackling, him joining in as well.

When we have both calmed down and wiped our eyes, he finally responds to my mini speech. I seem to be making lots of those today. I don't normally talk this much but I guess I'm just really comfortable around him.

"You know, I could say the same for you," I raise an eyebrow at him, confused.

"Yeah, it was pretty weird of me to ask you out but it's only fair that I question your sanity since you did say yes and were willing to give a complete stranger your number so... I'd say we're a match made in heaven," He jokes.

"That doesn't even count!" I laugh, "I at least knew of you and besides it's not like your management would let a serial killer or rapist be a role model for thousands of young girls so I knew you're harmless, just a little on the weird side."

He gasps and goes to tickle me but fails since I'm not ticklish, at least not my tummy, only my neck is. I just laugh at his failed attempt and take off my seat belt. I look at him confusedly when he does the same, opening his door and walking over to open mine.

I mumble a "thanks" when he holds out his hand to help me out of the car. I was expecting him to let go once I was out but he intertwined our fingers as we walked up to my door step.

I grow more nervous as we get closer to my front door, I've seen my fair share of movies and how dates as amazing as ours end, but I'm not too sure if I want to kiss Ashton yet. Everything seems to moving too fast and I'm worried that I'll get attached to him and be left with a broken heart when he finds someone better because chances are, he will.

Or even worse, he could be the one that ends up heartbroken. The last thing I want to do is hurt him, especially since he has helped me through so much, though he doesn't know that. If he knew what I was hiding, he'd probably run a mile before I could even try to explain. I don't want that to happen but I can't tell him. Just not yet.

"You are actually a lot of fun to hang out with Violet, I'm glad I decided to be weird and ask you out on this date," Ashton says, bringing me back to reality.

"Yeah, I'm really glad you did too." I smile sweetly.

His fingers slowly break away from mine and he steps a little closer. He gently presses his lips to my cheek, letting them linger for longer than necessary but I don't mind. When he pulls back, I engulf him in a hug mainly because I want to hide my red face, (Seriously?! How many time do I have to blush on this date?) and also because he smells amazing and gives the best cuddles; gentle but tight enough to know he doesn't really want to let you go. Those are the best kind of cuddles.

"I'll text you and we could do this again maybe?" He asks, looking hopeful.

I smile big, probably looking like a creepy clown, and nod. He returns the cheesy smile and kisses my cheek one last time.

"Night, Violet." He waves before getting in his car and driving off.

As soon as I can't see his car anymore, I walk into the house calling out to my mum who says she's still in her office. I open up the door to see her hand tangled in her hair and my dad pacing the room. Oh no.

"What is it?" I ask, my voice quivering.

"We got another letter from the police, sweetheart." My mum croaks.

No, no, no, no, NO!
