Forbidden Desires// HS

I squeezed my eyes shut and tried not to remember those moments.
It can't come back now. It took a lot for me to push those unpleasant times away.
After a lot of effort, I managed to concentrate on the current situation and opened my eyes to face Rick. I didn't want to give him the satisfaction seeing me in pain. He didn't deserve. After all the things he'd done. He certainly didn't.
"Hi Rick. Yes, even I never expected to be this unfortunate that I'd have to see your face again."
His smirk turned to a frown.
"Listen Sky. There's something I have to tell you. It's-"
"There's nothing left to say now Rick," I whisper- shouted at him. "All that happened has already happened and you and I, both know that saying anything now isn't going to change that." I spat.
"It can't change what had happened. But hopefully, it can change the culprit." He said.
What was he talking about? He did know that he was the only culprit.
"What are you talking about?" I asked.
"You did see that I was in the car. But did you see who was driving it?" He asked.
"I-"
I started thinking hard, trying to decipher what he meant. All that happened that night came rushing back-



That night was a very special night. It was my 16th birthday. I was excitedly getting dressed for the party which my friends were throwing in my backyard. I was nicely taking my time until my mom hollered from downstairs.
"Sky honey, we know you're pretty busy getting ready but would you just come down for a minute.
I put down my lip gloss.
"Coming mom."
I ran down the stairs and saw my parents waiting in the living room.
My mom was the first to look up at me.
"Honey, could you just tell your Dad what flavor cake you want? Your friends have made an amazing arrangement but unfortunately, they forgot about the cake." My mum smiled apologetically.
I looked up at my Dad who was standing patiently with his arms crossed tapping his foot. Seeing the wide grin on his face made me grin.
"Anything you want, Dad. Surprise me." I giggled.
"Sure Honey. Come 'ere." He opened his arms wide, beckoning me to come. I ran over to them and hugged my Dad as tightly as I could. He hugged me back tighter. Pulling off, he planted a small kiss on my forehead.
"I'll be right back, Hon." He said and left.
After about 5 minutes of waiting, my mum suddenly jumped off from the couch.
"Oh my God. You dad forgot his wallet." My Mom hurriedly took the wallet and rushed out the door. I wanted to go too. Don't ask me why, I had no idea myself.
I was sitting in the car with my mom, happily waiting to tease my Dad about being irresponsible.
We reached the bakery from where Dad was supposed to be buying the cake. We got out of the car and looked for Dad's car in the parking space. I looked around for the car everywhere but couldn't find it.
"Sky hon, look!" My mum said while pointing towards the road. I turned my head towards the place where my mom was pointing.
My dad's car going towards our house. I grinned to myself thinking that dad is probably going home to get his wallet.
The smile didn't last for long. It disappeared as soon as I saw a car heading speedily towards my Dad.
"Dad!" I shouted at the same time my mum shouted, "Nathan!"
I started running towards the road but couldn't go far as my mum got hold of my arm and pulled me back towards her. I turned my head towards the other car and squinted my eyes to see the people inside. I couldn't notice much but a fade outline of a familiar person before turning my head back towards my Dad's car.
It was after that I witnessed the most horrifying scene of my life.
My Dad's car came in collision with the other car. Both the car's spun against each other making horrid screeching noises with their wheels. The noises pierced my ear. The other car banged into a lamp post and stopped. But my Dad's car went towards the other side of the road and collided with another parked car.
I thought the horror had stopped. But no, within a few seconds my Dad's car went up in flames.
My mom clasped my hand tighter while screaming her throat out. My eyes swelled up with tears but no sound came out of my mouth. I just stood there staring at the burning mass across me. My heart was still refusing to believe what had happened but my mind knew better.
Realization hit my heart hard. I screamed. I screamed and screamed as loud as I could. My voice gave out all it had.
I struggled to get rid of my mother's grip but her grip was firm. I could hear her sobs as well but couldn't do anything about it. Right now, my heart was going through the worst trauma possible.
"DAD!" I screamed. "Dad! Don't go!" I begged thinking that maybe he won't. But fate thought otherwise.
That night my birthday had turned into a death anniversary for my Dad. What could be worse than having to remember your own father's death on your own birthday?
After going through those few days of crying it took a lot for me to come out of that trance. By then, I knew who was driving the car which collided with my Dad's.
It was Rick. The one who killed my father.
..
"What's there to remember now Rick? YOU! You already did what you had to!" I snarled at him.
"Calm down Sky. Come with me. I need to show you something." He lowered his voice.
What does he have to show me now? After everything is over...
