When I'm Gone

Louis' POV

Dinner was fantastic. Kate looked so classic in that dress, the color really suited her, I'll have to text Lottie another thank you. I couldn't stop beaming. I felt like we were living a fairy tale. Minus the fact this wasn't “our” city.

We ate at a small table towards the back in the dark restaurant, only a few candles illuminated our table. It was fitting, I would see random flashes of light bounce off Kate's face. She would always look away and smile when I caught her staring. It was hard not to stare at her though. Being so close and out in the open I really got to appreciate her beauty. The way her lips would curl just slightly and her dimples would almost appear. The way her eyes would light up when I would ask her almost anything.

When her hand grazed mine, the sheer feeling almost killed me. I simply turned my hand over on the table and when she placed hers in mine, I felt like I couldn't breath. A feeling and image I'll always remember.

“You coming Louis?” Kate turned to me as I was obviously lost in thought. We kept it classy at the end when the bill arrived, rock, paper, scissors to see who would pay. Kate actually lost meaning she would pay but I slipped my card to our waiter before she could, it was quite cute when she pouted.

“Yes ma-am!” I picked up the pace just a bit to meet her, wrapped my arm around her waist as we walked into the night. It was getting chilly in Barcelona but we didn't let that stop us from walking and enjoying the life of the street.

“Oh my god!!! It's Louis Tomlinson!!” I heard a high pitched girl all but shout out and Kate practically doubled over laughing.

“We've been caught.” She whispers into my ear as the three girls come closer. They obviously spoke English very well.

“We love you so much! Can we take a picture with you?” They were all but bouncing up and down with joy as Kate pulled away just a bit to allow them to get closer to me.

“Sure, sure!” I open my arms out to allow them to get closer as one reaches her hand out to take the picture.

“Oh! I can do that for you!” Kate comes up and offers her hand, the girl passed her phone to her and pressed herself closer to me. Kate collected all three of the girls' phones for pictures.

“Ready?” She starts pushing buttons and I just continue to smile. She's working two phones simultaneously, making me smile even more. “Just a few more!” She looks past the phone and winks at me. “Louis! You should follow them on twitter too.” She suggests, the devil.

“Can you?!!” The one that has been silent asks in surprise.

“Of course I can.” I smile and shake my head pulling my phone out and open the app asking for their twitter handle to follow.

“So are you two a thing? Are the rumors that Eleanor are broken up true?” The original girl who spotted us asks me. I pretend I'm not listening as I scroll through my phone adding them.

“Just friends. But I did record a video on one of your phones of meeting Louis.” She smiles, ahh so that's why she was messing around with two phones.

“Oh my god, thank you so much!!” The girls wave goodbye and we can hear them giggling from quite a bit away.

“Just friends huh?” I can't help but ask.

“Oh come on Louis, you literally broke up with Eleanor a week ago, no one gets over someone that quickly. And I know people will hate me eventually, I don't want to start the fire so quickly.” She nudges me almost to let me know she's joking but I still get it. It's hard to be with me, any of the guys for that matter.

“But can we at least be friend with benefits?” I joke and she laughs pulling me closer and kissing my cheek.

“I don't know, that's quite a privilege.” She walks further away and turns back to me, “Catch me.” She requests as she ducks into the night. I have a feeling she'll be the death of me.

“So what's next?” Kate has changed into sweatpants and a t-shirt, plopping down at the foot of the bed as I'm messing around, checking my e-mails on my iPad. I gently toss it across the bed and look at her.

“What do you mean? I suggest sleeping.” I chuckle at myself.

“I know that.” She swats at my leg. “I mean for you, what's on your schedule?” She asks inching backwards till her back is resting on the headboard.

“Well, looking at my e-mails and schedule, we have to head to LA for a few days to record a new song and we have some radio interviews. Then we'll be back in London for a few days probably doing god knows what.” I ramble on.

“So are you free for Thanksgiving?” She asks.

“Thanksgiving, the American holiday?” I tease.

“Yes, the American holiday.” She rolls her eyes and shakes her head, looking away.

“Well, what day is it on?”

“Thursday, the 24th.” She states as a matter of fact.

“I think I can arrange that. Just you, me, and Olivia?” I sit up and swing one of legs over the bed.

“Well, I figure you can invite whom ever you want, I'll probably invite Dottie and Patricia. Dottie seems to always ask me about the holiday. She told me that she thinks American's put jelly beans on everything and just watch American Football all day.” She laughs quite a bit, almost snorting and I can't help but laugh as well.

“You mean you don't put jelly beans on everything?” I try my best shocked face.

“Sorry, no. Just turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, rolls, peas, yams, pumpkin pie, apple pie, and cranberry sauce but I don't like that so I never include it.”

“That sounds delicious. Are you going to make that all by yourself?”

“Well I can. You can come over and help too.”

“So you want me to invite the guys?”

“If you want to.” I can tell by the way she said it and couldn't even look at me, she's nervous.

“Don't be nervous. They all kind of know everything about you anyway.” I laugh but stop when I notice she's not laughing. “What is it?”

“It's just that I haven't really seen them since they met Olivia and I at the hospital and I don't want them to get the wrong impression that I stole you from Eleanor or I'm trying to ruin things.”

I sit up and scoot closer to her, “They won't think that. They're my best friends, I've literally told them everything about us and yes, maybe at first they had reservations about you but they know this is real, not some sort of infatuation I have.”

“So they know everything?” She exaggerates the word everything, leaving her eyes wide and jaw slightly open.

“Maybe?” I try to save it.

“Louis!” She pushes me off the bed and I can't help but laugh as she hides her embarrassment.

“Oh Kate, it's not that bad. We have an early flight tomorrow, lets go to bed. I'm exhausted.” I fake a yawn and stretch ever so slightly as I pull the covers back for us to crawl under. Kate instantly scoots closer to me as I'm lying on my back, swinging her leg over mine and resting her head on my chest. I must figure out the brand of her shampoo because it smells amazing. I drape my arms around her and I can feel her relaxing instantly.

“Good night Louis.” She whispers and I kiss her forehead.

“Good night Katie Kate.” I laugh at my rhyming name for her and drift off into sleep.

Hey Everyone!

I'm so sorry for my absence, one of my very good friends from high school passed away unexpectedly a week ago today so I've been at home. It was good for me to spend time with my family and friends, everything else kind of took a back seat, including this story. I just came back to school on Monday after her funeral but I've been just playing catch up ever since I missed Thursday, Friday, and Monday.


Hope everyone liked the update, I'll try to keep it up as much as possible. One way or another, I'll finish it. :)
