When I'm Gone

Thirty-six

Louis' POV

Kate and I.

I don't know how long I can hide the fact that I love her. I've admitted it while I'm alone, out loud at least but I just don't want to scare Kate. I mean we're not even officially dating, I can't tell her I love her yet. That's just odd.

Today Kate and I are headed to the match. I've never been this excited to attend, plus the fact that Kate is coming with me and she's just as excited. I went with Kate that day to pick up Olivia from school, I love that Livie gets so excited to see me. It gets hard for me to not be around them.

It's not that I just love Kate, I love Olivia too.

I can't wait for us to leave. For us to be alone. It hasn't been like this in such a long time. I just want to take things slow with her, I don't want to mess things up.

A smile never leaves my lips as I pull up to their house, I almost skip with joy. As dumb as that might sound, I've never been this excited to go out with anyone. Plus since we're watching football, it's like a dream. I actually told Niall that I would take him to the match so when I told him that I couldn't I had to explain it all to him. He was beyond excited.

After a few “I told you so's” and “about time's” I wasn't so nervous to tell everyone about us. I know their still isn't an us, but I consider us an us.

Knocking gently I wait to see if anyone will answer. I don't want to keep using the spare key, just because she told me where it was doesn't mean that I can constantly invade their privacy. I used it before when Kate was sleeping because she didn't answer the door or the phone when I called so I got concerned.

“Hey Louis. Come on in, I'm almost done packing.” Kate answers the door and steps to the side right away.

“Hi.” I feel like a nervous teenager asking his dream girl to prom all of the sudden, waiting for her father to come give me the third degree on life.

“Louis!” Olivia comes running around the corner.

“Olivia!” I yell back at her, it's become our greeting. The same thing we say over and over again. Then I always pick her up and spin her around in circles while she laughs and laughs.

“You and mommy are going on a trip?” She asks, eyes wide.

“We are. Whose staying with you?” I ask. I'm sad that she can't come with us but like Kate said, we need some time to ourselves to discover how this will work.

“Dottie. She's making me breakfast.” I set her down and turn to see Dottie walking toward us.

“Hey Louis. Glad you finally made things right.” She elbows me. She always knew about me liking Kate, she pushed for me to go after her for so long but I just couldn't. She's a great friend to us.

“Yeah, me too. Thanks for watching Olivia so we could go out.” I really am grateful.

“It's no problem. We will have a blast, it will be just like old times. Right Livie?” She smiles at her as Olivia sways from side to side.

“Right!”

“All right, I'm all set!” Kate comes bouncing down the steps wearing a simple beige jumper with peach colored pants, tan flats and a leopard print scarf. Her outfits are always effortless.

“You look great.” I extend my arm and help her down the last few steps, taking her bag from her shoulder.

“Thank you.” She turns to Dottie. “So you have our numbers, the keys to my car are on the hook by the back door if you ever want to go anywhere, brush your teeth, listen to Dottie, and we'll be back tomorrow.” She smiles as she bends down to hug Olivia. “I'll miss you. Love you so much miss Livie.” She hugs her extra tight.

“Go mommy.” Olivia laughs and slightly pushes her away.

“Okay, okay.” Kate jokes and stands up, adjusting her jumper.

“Louis! High five!” She holds her hand out as I smack it with mine. “See you later”! She has a louder than average voice I swear. I chuckle to myself and grab Kate's hand. This might be the first time we've actually held hands, it's surreal. We wave goodbye as we make our way outside, lightly closing the door.

“Ready for this adventure?” Kate is of course already smiling.

“Beyond ready.” I hold the door open for her and close it with a slight force as I jump to the other side. I can't wait for our adventure.

----------------------------

The game was unreal. Madrid pulled of a victory just slightly over Barcelona. I've never seen Kate yell so much or get so into the match. Of course, we've never watched football together. It was nice that she understood the game, I didn't have to explain anything to her. That's what I like about it though, we don't speak the language at all so we couldn't understand the announcers but the atmosphere and the rivlery is insane, and we both understand the game so we know what's happening.

“I can't believe you don't like Ronaldo!” I catch up to Kate walking on the cobblestone streets.

“I just don't! He acts like such a baby on the pitch. He's skilled, I'll give him that and he makes great plays but he's such a show off and even a tiny little kick to his shins, he's on the grass crying and rolling around.” She explains, over exaggerating everything with her hands.

“But every woman loves him!” I remember Eleanor just gushing about him every time he was on tv.

“Oh I know they do, but that's what money can buy. Good looks, teeth getting fixed, money can buy you anything.” She never ceases to amaze me. “God that game was amazing! What's next?” She turns to me.

“I was thinking dinner? It's still kind of early, we could go back to the hotel and change if you want? Lounge by the pool?” I throw out suggestions.

“How about pool then dinner?” I nod. “Ah, I feel so free. I forget what it's like to not have to worry about Olivia and cater to her every needs.”

“You seem different.” I like just following her around, looking at the old buildings.

“Good different? Or bad different?” She looks over her shoulder at me, winking.

“Just different. More relaxed.” I jog up to stand next to her, snaking my fingers between hers, pulling her hand to my lips and giving it a kiss, I see her blush ever so slightly. “I like this.” I nod towards our hands.

“Yeah, it's nice.” She smiles and shy's away from me, giggling. She suddenly takes her hand a way from my grip and races off.

“Kate!” I shout after her. “Where are you going?” All the people around looking at us, I see were close to our hotel, there's a park just across the street and I see looking back at me smiling making sure I see her enter the gated park.

I shake my head but rush to chase her, keeping me on my toes, I reach the gate and see children playing, elderly people sitting on the benches.

“Kate.” I whisper shout looking around to try to find her.

“Polo!” I hear her but can't see her and now I remember.

“Marco.” I sing just a little bit louder looking around all the trees and bushes.

“Polo.” She mocks my tune and I turn to my left, senses on edge trying to find her.

“Marco.”

“Polo.” Now I turn to my left. Where is this woman? The park isn't that busy but I can't see her moving anywhere.

Suddenly I feel a pair of cool hands come up behind me and cover my eyes.

“Polo.” She whispers in my ear and a smile curls on my lips. I take her hands from my face and spin around to see her chocolate eyes dance in the light, the sun bouncing off her lips and cheeks. I drop her wrists and her hands fall on my face, pulling me in just a bit as her lips graze mine sending my head into a tailspin and I can't help but want more. I wrap my arms around her and pull her body closer as her hands pull me in and our lips meet once again, just a little more aggressive. Her teeth pull ever so slightly on my bottom lip as she lets out a moan. I have to pull away before things get too much for a public place.

Our foreheads touch and I can't stop smiling as she licks her lips.

“You have no idea how long I've waited for you to do that.” I whisper.

“Oh, I think I have an idea.” She sinks her head just a little lower and breaks our eye contact, grabbing my hand. “Come on, lets go get some sun.” I happily follow her, she could lead me anywhere.

Notes

Hey everyone!!! Wanted to write a quick little apology about yesterday. It wasn't my best work, my notes section was lacking, and my response to your comments were quite terrible. So I'm sorry for that, hopefully today made up for it.

I didn't want to write about when they were at the game, if you've ever seen a Clasico on tv, it's quite loud and intense, I don't think Louis and Kate would have gotten much dialogue time. Hopefully you enjoyed the rest of it though! It's so different to write them together and not have that awkward tension! Take some getting used to. :) It's also fun to write Kate a little bit flirty and fun, she's always trying to be responsible but forgets that she's still young.

My exam is in just a few hours...5 essays that are to be 5-7 paragraphs about anything from the fertile crescent to ancient Egypt. Joy. :)

Happy Tuesday!!
