Year Two
The Art Book
I clutch my art book to my chest and race to class, my colored pencils nearly falling out of my bag. To say the least, Monday mornings were so not for me. And to make matters worse, my phone chirped in my pocket, making me jump. My pencils and book clatter to the ground.
I sigh and answer the phone. "What, Ashton? I'm really late for-"
"Rachel and I kissed!"
I dropped a pencil. "You did?" I squeal, my art class forgotten. "I'm so happy for you!"
"Thanks," He said sheepishly. "I'm sorry for calling so early, I just couldn't wait to tell you."
I smile. "Its alright, Ash. But hey, I'll call you back when my classes are over for the details. Okay?"
He hums in response, and hangs up. I hurriedly grab my pencils, but stop when a pair of black combat boots stop in front of me.
"Need some help?"
Jace.
I don't look up as I say, "I've got it, thanks."
He chuckles, squats down and helps me collect my pencils. I rush to grab them from the floor and shove them in my bag, before I stand up and thank him for his help.
I make it to my class right in time, thankfully. But when I sit down at my art station, I realize my art book isn't with my. Dammit. Jace must've taken it. I merely sigh and get up to retrieve my art book from him, but the teacher comes into my sight and I'm instantly back in my seat. I decide to let the matter go and just grab a canvas.
By the time I've sketched the painting, a random landscape of mountains and trees, I stand to get the oil paints. I guess you could say I'm not in the best mood by the way I'm aggressively shaking the paints and squirting the colors on my plate.
When I'm back at my station, painting, my mind wonders to Rachel and Ashton. They'd make a perfect couple. They've known each other for what, almost two years? I'd say its time for them to start dating, or so God help me, I won't stop trying to get them together once I'm back at Cambridge.
When the class finally ends, I quickly call Ashton as I run to the photography building. I frown when he doesn't answer, and shove my phone away. Now, onto my art book issue, how the hell am I going to find Jace here?
I shake my head, defeated, and rush back to my dorm. Once I'm there, I run into my room.
"Hey, Skylar?" My roommates voice comes from the other side of the door. I open it to find her holding my art book. "Jace stopped by, said to give you this."
I take the book and smile at her. "Thanks," I close the door and throw my art book onto the bed. A paper flutters out of the book, landing on the floor. I bend down and pick it up.
Here's my number, if I ever find your art book again. Was written neatly on it. I set the paper down. He didn't find my art book, he stole it! I shake my head and decide to call Ashton again, and this time he does answer.
