Chapter 1, Page 5
I took a deep breath. "What do you have to tell me? And no sugar coating."
What WAS she going to tell me? Was I sick? Did I have cancer? Or was it something else like my mom had come back alive and I wouldn't go to foster care? Well, spoiler alert, none of these were right.
"Well, back in 1999, the year you were born, some scientists were certain the world was going to end when it turned to 2000." Fiona explained. "That clearly not the case, but anyways, the government said that scientists all over better run their tests now before the world ends, since they to we're certain the world would end. Then, one scientist came to this hospital. He came to the new born ward around November 1999. Do you know why this was so special to our conversation?"
I nodded. "I was born here in November 1999." November 17, 1999, to be exact.
"Correct!" Fiona stated. "Now, here's the important part. This scientist, by the name of Dr. Adam Lee Jenkins, ran a test on babies born between November 10, 1999 and November 20, 1999. You just happened to be one of the test babies. May I tell you what this test was for?"
I nodded. I was a TEST RESULT?
"Okay, then." Fiona explained. "The test was run for parents to be able to set an age for when their child dies. The test has been running successfully, except for some side effects. Colored hair that glows when he/she is mad. Their skin and eyes also glow. Those are the only side effects to name so far. Well, we call these children Resistances. So to sum it up, Paige, you are a Resistance."
A Resistance? Out of ALL I could've been, I am a Resistance?
"Oh, and one more thing," Fiona stated, snapping my train of thoughts track. "You must NOT tell ANYONE, even the people who adopt you, about being a Resistance, unless they ask you first. Deal?"
"Deal." I said and she smiled. She left the room.
