My Faults

Chapter Twenty-Three

Louis’ P.O.V.

Finally. Oh my God, FINALLY.
I laughed giddily and jumped around as they kissed for the second time. I whipped out my iPhone 5 and snapped a picture quickly. As I looked at the result, I smiled wide. Picture perfect. I reckon Zayn would love my improving skills in Photography. Mwahahaha! I patted Zayn on the back to show him I was proud and happy that he made a move. I watched the two speak flowingly through their banter. It came naturally to them. I walked away to the living room, laying onto the couch. I might sneak in a little nap. Those two… well, I’ll find out what they will do later on… And with that, I let sleep take me.

Valerie’s P.O.V.

My first and proper kiss… Zayn.
I looked down suddenly from Zayn and held my cheeks as the heat increased. Am I… fan-girling? I don’t even know but I’m ecstatic. It’s finally happened. After YEARS.. but.. I only realised now that I’ve wanted him. No guy has ever crossed my mind like this in my whole life. I looked back up to see Zayn looking at me, amused. I laughed at myself then shook my head at him. “I’m just really happy, you know,” I explained, getting up from the high stool. “No, I don’t know,” Zayn replied cheekily. I rolled my eyes as I walked over to the food pantry. “Yes you do, silly. You’re just playing with me,” I stated, smiling as I did. I haven’t smiled so much in ages. And Chrissy Doll’s not here anymore.

“Me?” Zayn exclaimed, “Why, never.” I laughed quietly, trying to reach the flour and yeast. Ugh, just a little more. I lifted myself off my heels a little more until I was right on my toes. The pain was increasing as I still struggled to claim the ingredients for tonight’s dinner. My breath hitched slightly as I felt Zayn lean up against me from behind, grabbing the flour quickly. I let my feet relax as I stood firmly back on the ground; turning around to Zayn, wearing a sly smile and holding my hands out for the flour. “Nu-uh, you gotta pay,” Zayn said huskily. I put on a determined voice as I jumped for it. Dangerous move. Especially with flour. We all know how messy it can get. Luckily, he didn’t drop the flour but unluckily, I was a foot shorter than him. Puberty. I blame you. But then again, his height is rather attractive. SHHHH, Valerie, focus on the task at hand. I pouted at him as he raised the flour higher with his hands. I smirked at him then approached him. He smiled at me, thinking I was ready to give in to his game. I giggled before poking his stomach. He jerked into an odd position, the flour now in my reach. I took the flour from him, pecking his cheek as I walked round the kitchen counter.

“Valerie,” Zayn whined. I laughed as I pulled out a large bowl and a smaller one with it. I took out the measuring cups and slid the salt towards me after leaning to it. I hid my smile from Zayn as I peeked through my bangs. He watched me, leaning against the counter. I cleared my throat quietly before realising I forgot the yeast. And the baking soda. I put down the utensils and walked up to Zayn. “Zayn,” I began. “Could you be my darling and get the yeast and baking soda for me? I’m too short.” He playfully crossed his arms at me and huffed. I laughed before clutching his shirt, pulling him close and kissing him for the third time today. I pulled away reluctantly. The cooking needs to be done. “Please, Zayn?” I mumbled out, embarrassed. I looked up at him and noticed him in a daze before smirking down at my hands that still held his shirt. “Hmmm, payment for the yeast is done. But not for the baking soda.” I blushed as he said that before kissing him again. My stomach reacted as though I was falling. It feels like I’m free-falling through the clouds.. Before things got heated, I pulled away gasping then a satisfied smile spread across Zayn’s features. I looked broke eye contact in embarrassment and looked at his chest as I straightened his shirt. I cleared my throat and gestured towards the ingredients.

I walked back towards my cooking space while Zayn grabbed the two needed ingredients. I opened the flour bag and looked at the measuring cups. I crinkled my nose at them then said to myself, “Nah, who needs them?” I chuckled as I poured flour into the large bowl till I was satisfied. Hmm… 4 should do it. They won’t eat any more than that. I smiled in appreciation at my acquired cooking skills. God bless you, Mallory. I nodded my head at Zayn as he put the two boxes down in front of me. I smiled then said, “If you’re going to watch, you can help yourself to some snack. Just don’t eat too much, okay? I’m making something special tonight.”

“No, I’ll just watch you; it’s fun,” Zayn replied, adding in a wink. I stuck my tongue out at him as I added a bit of baking soda. I steadied the bowl with my left hand as I combined the mixture together with my right hand. After doing that, I moved my hand to add the yeast but Zayn had already opened the sachet and beat me to it. I laughed lightly and mumbled a thank you as he did a little bow. Geez, he truly shows his manly side to him. Or maybe I’m just noticing now? I’ll take the latter. I muttered to myself, “I’m oblivious.” I then looked at Zayn and asked him, “Hey, could you fill this small bowl with warm water?” He nodded and swiftly began to do so. So helpful. I began humming, smiling to myself as I mixed the three components together.

Zayn’s P.O.V.

I took the small bowl quickly, moving towards the sink. I turned the handle to the left, letting the hot water tap run for a few moments before filling the bowl with the water. While I walked back slowly to Valerie, careful not to spill any water, I heard her humming a familiar tune. I set the bowl near her as she dipped her body in acknowledgement. The little dancer. I smiled as I sat back down, observing her. She began swaying her body as her humming grew louder. She turned to her left, picking up the bowl of water then pouring a fifth of it in. The mixture turned sticky as it turned into dough, but was still powdery in some areas. I could make out a few words she was slowly integrating into the tune.

I started to recognise the song she was singing. It was from when I taught her how to ride a bike. Once she reached the last verse, I sang with her, catching her attention. Her cheeks tinged pink as she looked down away from me, continuing to sing as she mixed more water into the dough, making it more manageable after a while.

She fell quiet and looked up, making eye contact with me with tears in her eyes. I knew she was not upset. I knew the pain she went throughout her life. I shared her pain when she needed me. I helped her when she asked for it and when she needed it. I sang the last few lines, dedicating them for her.

Don’t want… the pain,
Of losing you, again.
I can tell you in the end,
You won’t find a greater treasure… than a friend.

She smiled at me, closing her eyes for a brief moment. Three tears fell from her eyes as she did so. I leaned in quickly and wiped them away with my thumb. She opened her eyes and pressed her cheek gently against my hand.

I jerked my hand away quickly in surprise, as Louis fake screamed like a girl, ruining the moment. “You two are so adorable- ZAYN YOU CRAZY MAN!” Valerie burst out laughing, happy tears running down her face. She wiped them with the sleeve on her arm, sniffling a little. “Way to ruin the moment, Louis,” I cheered in sarcasm. He sat down next to me and said, “Your singing woke me up and the baby vomit was gonna burst so… SINCE WHEN WERE YOU SO DAMN ROMANTIC?!” He exclaimed loudly. I punched him on the shoulder and glanced at Valerie who was smiling at the both of us. She said quietly, “Lou, it’s a surprise to me too but I realised that we were both oblivious to our mysterious Zayn and his ways of spreading his charm.” Louis looked at Valerie then at me, and nodded slowly, pulling a face emphasizing on how impressed he was. Well, at least I think that’s what he’s thinking. I chuckled low at that thought.

Louis then asked, “What’s cooking, good-looking?” I ruffled his hair at his lame rhyme. Valerie rolled her eyes and said, “That’s old-school, Louis.” He rolled his eyes back at her and said, “Oh, whatever. I’m guessing Zayn has better lines, aye mate?” He nudged my shoulder lightly. I noticed Valerie looking at me expectantly. Louis. Notorious for putting the spotlight on others. I ran my hand through my hair before scratching my neck a little. I then said quickly, “I don’t know about you, but I know about me, and even though we’re young, would you consider marrying me?”

I flashed a smile to Valerie then looked at Louis who was gobsmacked. “Woah man… where’d you get that one from?” Louis asked. I shrugged. Thank you, English. “I thought of it on the spot,” I replied. I added, “And I meant what I said.” I looked at Valerie again as she nodded shyly. I fist-pumped in victory while Louis wriggled his eyebrows playfully at Valerie. "Sadly.. I'm forever alone," Louis fake-cried. I laughed but soon stopped when he challenged me to a dance-off. "I may not get the girls but I can sure shake my arse," Louis sassed. I groaned but stopped myself quick, remembering what happened to Valerie. Oh geez. Louis was off laughing but to shut him up, I put on a Mexican accent and said, “Challenge accepted, mojo.” I grinned at Valerie when she laughed. She continued making her dinner special as we left her in peace.

@HeyItsGabi

Awwhh.. :( Don't cryyyyy. I'm sorryyy.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read my explanation.. it's been a hectic year. But.. now I'm happy and so is he and we're trying our best to keep our bond strong. Although it sounds like a lot of effort (which it is) when I put it down in words.... for some reason it doesn't feel like it. Maybe it's because I love him enough to not feel like any of this was a burden or is a burden. And he feels the same way too.

But I'm glad I'm back now, no longer weak.. I'm stronger and it's all thanks to God for blessing me with my soul mate. I am a happy person.

In two weeks time, my exams will be finished and then I can start writing new chapters for this story, hehehehe.

I'm so excited now! ^_^

Tears, literal tears. You are such an amazing person. I am so happy for you :) <3
