"Hello?" Said the rough voice on the other line.
"Niall I swear to God if you hang up on me you'll never hear the end of it," I said trying to sound convincing.
"How did you get my number?" He asked clearly annoyed.
"That doesn't matter. You need to tell me what's going on and exactly what your protecting me from," I said.
"I don't need to tell you anything," he stated.
"I just don't understand...." I trailed off. There was someone outside my back window in the yard.
"Hello? Are you there?" Niall asked.
"Niall get over here now!" I said not all too politely. I was trying to be quiet, but my panic level had raised to an all time high.
"What's wrong?" He asked sounding worried. I heard car keys jangle and a door slam shut.
"There's someone in my yard. I don't know who it is." I said.
"Go find your brother and hide. I'll be there in 5 minutes," and then he was gone.
I went in the kitchen and saw that Jeremy had left me a note saying he went out with his friend Chris. Great. I'm alone.
I went in the bathroom and locked the door.
About a minute later I heard the back door knob jiggle. Oh shit! I heard something being slid under the door and then the noise was gone.
My phone started to vibrate. I saw Niall's name and answered it.
"I'm here, unlock the door," he said and then hung up.
I got up and ran to the door. I unlocked it and he swung it open and he wrapped me in a hug. I so wasn't expecting that, but somehow it just felt right. I leaned into him and then he let go.
As he looked down at me he asked, "Are you okay? Did they get in?"
"No I'm fine, but I heard something slide under the door," I said walking to it.
There was and envelope on the floor and when I picked it up I read the words, for Niall, on the back. I looked up at him with a confused look on my face and handed him the envelope.
He took it, opened it, and began reading. I saw tears form in his eyes as he put the letter back in the envelope.
"Your coming with me," he stated firmly.
"What happened to 'stay away, I'm a bad guy?'"
"It's too late now, they know," he said. "You have to come with me so I can make sure you stay safe."
"What about my brother. He's goin to come back at some point and see that I'm not here," I said.
"Call him. Tell him to go to a friends house," he said this as if it was just so obvious.
I called Jere and told him to stay at Chris's house. I packed a bag and got in Niall's jeep.
"Niall, earlier, you said "they know" who knows what?" I asked. I was beginning to get a little scared.
He sighed, "I used to be in a gang. I got myself in a little too deep. They started talking about drug deals and smuggling things over the border and that was just too much. So, I reported them to the cops. The leader of the gang found out and kidnapped my mom and brother and killed them. They said they were never going to let me be happy again. Now they know about you, and so help me God, if they so much as look at you funny, they're dead."

I'm so so so sorry it took so long. Honestly I was thinking about giving up on this fan fic but people kept commenting and keeping my hopes up. I'll try to update more frequently this time.
