No One Left Behind

Free

The door opened, and a soft breeze blew across my legs. I brushed my hair behind my ear, and stepped out of the state trooper's car. I walked around, opening the trunk. I grabbed my bag out of the trunk slamming it closed. Officer Trupp stood there, arms crossed.
“Did you learn anything while you were...there?” He asked. I rolled my eyes.
“You can say it, you know. Its not a crime to say Juvenile.” I said. He stood there, skeptical. I sighed, “Yes, I learned that people like you never listen to people like me. But say you do for the 'protection of the citizens of the world'.” His eyes narrowed.
“I see all that time spent there was wasted.” He snapped.
“Not at all.” I replied, and walked inside. I looked around, to see the house was a lot different than when I was taken away three years ago, “Hey, I'm home!” The living room had blue walls instead of the usual white. The floors had new white carpet on them. The furniture was polished, and there was a new television set. My eyes widened.
“Dad?!” I screamed. I heard footsteps on the staircase. I turned. Dad's hair was cut, and he wore new cleaner clothes. I gasped.
“Audrey! Your home!” He said, walking over and hugging me. I stood there, unaware of my surroundings, “Why didn't you call?” I just stood there, looking around. Dad released me, and I stepped back. I turned around, still not sure what had happened. A boy stood there. He had blonde hair, and blue eyes.
“Dad?” I asked.
“Audrey, this is Niall. He's your new stepbrother. Niall, this is my daughter Audrey.” Dad smiled, walking over and patting him on the back. We just stared.
“You have a daughter?” He said in an Irish accent. I felt heat rising. He never told them?
“Your married?” I asked. We glared at Dad. He just smiled. “I'll let you catch up. I am going to see if your mum needs help out in the garden.” Mum? Garden? I thought. He smiled, walking away.
“Where were you for three years?” He asked. I glared at him.
“Juvenile.” I said. He rose an eyebrow. “What? You think I'm joking?”
“Uh, no?” I rolled my eyes.
“Why does every one do that? Yes, I'm a bad person. Sorry to break your bubble.” I snapped.
“Er, sorry.” He said.
“Don't be.” I grabbed my bag, walking up the steps.
“No one touched my room, right?” I asked, glaring at him. He shook his head. I sighed, and walked upstairs.
