The New Publicist

Not a Typical Day

Plink. Plink. Plink. I woke up just as the rain was starting to drizzle down. I looked around the living room with eyelids half open and saw Hanna sleeping on the other couch. “Hanna get up” I whispered. Nothing. I repeated it again a little louder. Still nothing. “Hanna get your butt up and get ready!” I screamed as I threw pillows at her. She jerked on the couch and fell off. “Hahahahaha” I laughed pointing at her.

“Oh so funny” Hanna spoke as he picked herself up from the floor. She threw a pillow at my head and snorted. I got off the couch and headed to the kitchen to get some breakfast before taking a shower. I grabbed a blueberry bagel and placed it in the toaster. While it was toasting I went to my purse to get my phone. I dug around in my purse and couldn’t find it. I dumped the contents on the counter and it wasn’t there.

“Hann, where’s my phone?” I asked her while she was picking up the pillows.

“Did it fall in the couch?” she responded. I went over to the place where I was sleeping and felt around. Still couldn’t find it. I began the throw the pillows, cushions, and blankets off the couch. Still no phone.

“Whatever I probably placed it somewhere and I’ll find it in a little while” I said trying to reassure myself. Eating my bagel and thinking about where I could’ve put my phone I completely missed what Hanna was trying to say to me.

“So ya that’s where I’ll be” Hanna said as she stood at the bottom of the stairs. I nodded my head and she went up. A few minutes passed and I went upstairs to take a shower to get the smell of popcorn off of me. I walked by Hanna’s room and heard her talking. Must be her mom I thought. I took no concern to it and went into the bathroom. I turned on the water and faced myself in the mirror to take off my makeup. The steam began to fill up the bathroom and I hopped in the shower. Taking a good, long shower I got out and strolled into my room. I looked through my dresser trying to find something that wasn’t too business-like but not too casual. I finally decided on black skinnies, a white v-neck, and some nude heels. Satisfied with this look I headed to find my keys. I reached for them on the hook, where they normally would be, but couldn’t find them.

“Hanna where are my keys!” I yelled.

“Last night you guys took a cab to the theatre and I took my car and met you there and took us home after. So I think it’s still at the boys’ hotel” she responded coming to the top of the stairs. Well this day just keeps getting better and better.

“I’m gonna call a cab” I spoke before I slammed the door behind me. I stormed down the stairs not wanting to have to deal with the elevator and waited for my cab outside. By the time I walked out of the apartment complex it was pouring rain. “Great. This is JUST what I wanted” I yelled at the sky realizing that I forgot my umbrella. 10 minutes passed and still no cab. Great I’m gonna be late on my first day, how perfect. I was about to turn back and go the apartment but stopped when a black Range Rover pulled up to the curb. Someone tapped on the window that made me turn around. As the window rolled down I could see some blonde hair peeping at the top.

“Hey”

“Niall?! What are you doing here?” I asked shocked and astonished.

“Well I was going to Starbucks and this was on the way so I thought why not pick up a lovely looking lady and coffee at the same time” he said cheekily.

“Aw so thoughtful. I think I’m gonna swoon” I laughed out.

“So are you in?” he asked.

“Well seeing that my cab hasn’t arrived yet . . . what the heck . . . ya sure” I said. Niall got out of the front seat and opened up the door for me. I smiled to myself and slid in. Niall got in after me, closed the door, and we headed to get some coffee. The rain was coming down faster and harder when we reached the Starbucks. We both got out of the car and ran into the building before we would get drenched. “What do you normally get?” I asked him making sure my hair wasn’t all in disorder.

“Just a latte. What about you?” he asked doing a little jump to shake off the water.

“A double chocolate-chip frappe” I said digging for my wallet. I pulled it out and walked up to the counter.

“Yes, how may I help you?” the girl asked stepping behind the cash register.
“Yes, I would like a grande double chocolate-chip frappe please” I spoke digging out a five dollar bill.

“That’ll be $4.68” she said preparing my cup. I was about to hand her the bill when Niall interrupted the procedure.

“I’m going to pay . . . this time” he said winking and giving me a little side-hug. I back away with my arms up and got us a table. Niall ordered his drink, got some straws and napkins and finally sat down. “So tell me about yourself” he asked while we waited for our drinks to finish being made up.

“Um let’s see . . . I grew up on the East Coast with my parents and four other siblings. Came here after graduating college with my best friend, Hanna obviously, to start life anew. We made this plan our summer of senior year of high school. Do I ever regret coming out here? Um . . . it’s mixed feelings. Like I miss my family and friends I left behind but I left a lot of drama and crap I didn’t want to live with anymore. So ya that’s the shortened version of it” I said as though I thought nothing of it. He just nodded his head. “So what abou”

“Niall” the guy said placing our drinks on the counter. Niall went and picked them up and came back.

“What were you saying love?” he asked poking his straw through the wrapper.

“Nothing” I said blowing my straw wrapper at him.

“Oi!” he spoke throwing the trash back at me. We did small talk before Paul came and got us to go to the hotel. We both followed reluctantly back to the car and got in. The hotel was about five minutes away and we got there in no time. As the car pulled up I could still see my car parked in the same spot I left it in. A wave of relief came over me and I relaxed a little bit. I was going to text Hanna but I remembered that I still hadn’t found my phone yet.

“Dang it” I said and slouched back into the seat.

“What is it?” Niall asked as he unbuckled.

“Well this morning I woke up and I can’t find my phone and I looked everywhere but can’t find it. And then I was going to take my car to work but I left it here apparently. And don’t get me wrong I’m glad it’s still here and I was gonna text Hann telling her it was still here but I can because I can’t find my phone” I said without taking a breath. Niall just looked at me and started laughing. His laugh sounded like a genuine Irish laugh and that made me smile. “Why are you laughing?” I asked hitting his arm.

“Well during the movie last night you completely curled up into my lap because you were so scared. While the movie was playing you’re phone fell out of your pocket and I picked it up and placed it in my pocket. I was going to give it to you after the movie but I forgot and you left before I remembered I had it. So I have your phone right here. And by the way I like your screensaver of Tom Hiddleston” he chuckled handing me my phone. I smacked his arm again before getting out of the car. After texting Hann, we walked into the hotel to get the rest of the boys and head to the recording studio. All of sudden I stopped walking because I couldn’t breathe. Oh no not this again I said before blacking out.
