Side Glances

"You going to go check your car?" I pushed my feet into Harry's thigh, wiggling my toes. He looked at me over the brim of the mug.
"You want me gone?"
"No, I just-"
"Then you want me to stay?"
"I barely know you."
"But you know me enough." He reasoned.
"No, Harry, I don't. I don't even know what to say about last night."
"I slept on top of the covers."
"You got awfully comfortable."
"I was asleep."
"You said you didn't sleep well."
"I didn't." He shrugged. "But I slept well after I got comfortable."
"Harry."
"I'm just saying! I like you a lot, and sorry if I like you after only a day, I didn't know it was wrong."
"We're just friends." I tried to stand.
"What if I want to be more?" He pushed me down by grabbing my thigh.
"It's been a day."
"It's been five years." his brows rose. "Freshman year. Pencil."
"I gave you the pencil you dropped."
"You had a crush on me."
"If you think I had a crush on you, you must have had a crush on me." I poked his hand.
"I did." He agreed. "And so did you." He turned his arm, catching my wrist in his hand. "Five years."
"And we never talked."
"Just date the damn boy!" Megan shouted.
"Yeah, date the damn boy." Harry repeated. "Come on, how bad could I be?" he rubbed his thumb along my skin. "You'd be warm all the time. You could put your feet on my back, steal the blankets, have me carry you everywhere, free hugs?" Megan's door flung open.
"If you don't date him," Her eyes went wide, and she pointed to herself. "I will."
"I don't know." I was skeptical of the 'five year' thing. We never talked.
"Don't make me beg." He looked like a puppy. I rolled my neck, breathing out deeply and loudly.
"You know this is just a crush. It'll go away in a few weeks." He watched me relax back into the couch, squashing myself into the corner.
"What if it doesn't?"
"What if." I picked out. "Why act on something that might not last."
"Might!"
"Not." I expressed, trying desperately to show him what I meant. "Besides, you just stopped here because-"
"I live thirty minutes form here." He bobbed his head, looking at me.
"Then why did-"
"I said that with Lindsey, too. I didn't want crazy people finding me after one coffee."
"Relationships built on lies don't last."
"Please. It was one, tiny little hiding dot."
"Still a blemish." I forced his hand off my leg, standing. "I have class." I strode to my room, closing the door.
"I'll be back soon, Megan!" I glanced at Harry, sitting stoic on the couch. His back was to me. I tiptoed over, running my fingers though his hair before tilting his head back. Our eyes met as I pressed a quick kiss to the corner of his lips. "Bye Harry." I kissed his head, pushing his hair back once more before leaving for class.
I couldn't think during the class that got canceled. I sat in the room for two hours thinking. No one else showed up, the snow to deep for them. I left after the two hours, that's when class would've ended. I walked back slower than I would have, not entirely eager to be back. Harry was probably still there, unable to move his car, if he'd even tried.
I opened the door, slipping my shoes off and hanging my coat. I looked to the couch, seeing it empty.
"Megan?" No answer. She probably went to a guys place. I wouldn't see her for a few days. I checked her room to be sure, but she was gone. "Ok." I went to my room, puling my jeans off and searching my dresser for my shorts.
"That's one way to wake up from a nap." His deep voice groaned from my bed. I squealed and threw my arms over myself, whirling around to glare at him.
"I thought you left!"
"Nope, car's still stuck." He propped himself up and his elbows, watching me scramble for shorts. "Seriously, why bother with shorts when you could easily hide yourself in the blankets?"
"Shut up. I'm tired."
"Your class was canceled."
"So?"
"Why did you stay?" He sat against the wall, which served as a headboard.
"I was thinking."
"About?"
"You. Honestly." He smirked, crossing his arms over his chest.
"What about me?"
"How, in the five years you claim to have liked me, This last twenty four hours is the most you've ever spoken to me." I sat on the edge of the bed, turning to face him. "And I still don't know you all that well."
"What about me do you want to know?"
"I don't know. It's been a day, I don't know what to talk about." I looked at my feet, wiggling my toes. "I don't know what you like to talk about." I stiffened as he scooted closer, his hand almost touching my knee.
"I will talk about whatever you want to. I like talking about everything." he reached to tough my cheek. Me, being the smart person I am, rolled off the bed, my legs going over my head first. I landed with a thud, yelping. I sprang to my feet.
"Oh, look at the time!" I held my wrist up, my watch in his face. "I need to go." I pulled my sweats over my shorts, and my sweatshirt over my hoodie.
"Where?" He stood to follow me out. I slid my shoes on, grabbing my coat. His hand held my elbow, spinning me to face him. "Look at me." My eyes wandered to his. "Do I intimidate you?"
"No." yes.
"Yes I do. That's why you ninja rolled off the bed." he thumbed over his shoulder towards my room. "Do I scare you that much, you can't even look at me."
"I'm awkward around strangers." I pulled back, grabbing his keys from his jacket. "I'm gonna go try your car." he stood still as I left.
I sat in his car, my head on the wheel and the radio playing quietly. My fingers drummed along with the tune, my mind blank for once in a month.
"Maybe I'm just over thinking this." I started talking to myself. "Why is it wrong to date him after a day? I mean, people have sex after ten minutes, why is a day so wrong?" I nodded to myself. "Does he even like me?" I shook my head. "Sasha, girl you've got to do something. You like him, but what if he doesn't like you back? This could present serious problems." I decided I would try the simplest test, after trying his car.
It surprised me how many people were out walking, I almost hit a few people making snow angels in the street while I was parking in front of my dorm building.
I locked the car, marching across the street and up the stairs, down the hall, and into my dorm. Harry stood up and looked at me as I marched straight up to him. I pushed my fingers into his hair on either side of his face, bringing him down to me. I kissed him, my eyes closed. He kissed back after getting over initial shock. Our lips moved together, his nose pressed to the side of mine. He slowly wrapped his arms around me, holding the sides of my waist with is forearms on my back. He lifted my slightly, my toes just barely touching the floor. He put pressure on my lips, pushing against me. I moved my hands back, keeping one in his hair while the other ran around his shoulders to pull him closer. I confess, I opened my eyes to peek. His eyes were closed. I also confess, This kiss made me happy.
I pulled back, watching his face. He kept his eyes closed, and breathed through his mouth. He finally opened his eyes.
"You can put me down now." I whispered, my voice gone. He slowly set me down, keeping his arms around me, and I kept my hand in his hair, and my arms around his shoulders.
"Wow." He remarked, eyes glued to mine. I blushed.
"Your car's out front." My eyes landed on his chest, admiring the steady rhythm of his breathing. "You can leave when you want."
"You honestly think that after that I'd want to leave?" His body was flush against mine.
"Can I-" I looked form his eyes to his chest.
"Yeah." he answered. I rested my head on his chest, his heart beating in my ear. He began to sway, pulling me with him. "That was something else."
"Good or bad?" I asked.
"Good. Most definitely good." His chest rattled with his words. I dropped my hand from his hair to his shoulders, tightening my grip around him. he tightened his arms around me, too, pulling me closer. "Very good."
"Yes."
"Yes what?"
"If your offer thing still stands, yes." He pumped a fist to the air.
"Yes!" He squeezed me, giddy now. "Are you still hung up on the 'I don't know anything about you' thing?"
"Eh. I figure I'll find out everything sooner or later. No biggie." I slipped form his embrace and took my shoes off, hanging my coat, and peeling my hoodie off. Harry hovered behind the whole while. "Yeah, so your car is out front." I said, handing him the keys.
"You kicking me out?" He smirked. "After that kiss?"
"No, but you could leave if you wanted to."
"I don't. I want to go fall asleep with my head on your tummy."
"Oh my gosh." I laughed as he dragged me by the hand, back my room.
