Side Glances

5

We sat on opposite end of the couch, a big bowl of popcorn in the middle. The TV was glowing in the ever dimming light, illuminating our faces slightly.
"This is creepy, but hokey." He whispered, stuffing a handful of popcorn in his mouth. "How do people even like this stuff?" Bit of food fell to the blanket.
"It's the romance between them. Honestly, it's enthralling." I answered, snuggling further into the blanket. He pointed to the screen.
"No." I rolled my eyes.
"You probably want to watch Bronies, or something like that." I looked at him pointedly. He dropped his head.
"Shut up."
"It's true." I laughed, throwing popcorn at him.
"I should get going. It's getting late." The smile dropped from both our faces. I nodded, looking down to my lap.
"Yeah, probably." I agreed quietly. He lifted the blanket, climbing out and dropping it again. He stood tall, shoving his keys into his back pocket. I got up, standing in front of him. We stared at each other for a moment. He opened his mouth to speak when I flinched away, talking quickly. "I'll walk you to your car?"
"Oh. Uh, sure." He shrugged his coat on, holding mine out for me to slide into.

"So, this was fun." He spoke at last. The snow was up to our shins, making it harder to walk.
"Yeah. We should do it again, when you can drag yourself out of bed." I chuckled a little, stopping when his car came into view.
"Next time I'll get out voluntarily." We stopped next to his door, unlocking it. "You know, now that I know you're not crazy." he popped open the door. I stayed quiet. "Well, we have each others number."
"Yeah."
"So, who's gonna call first?" He leaned on his car, crossing his arms. "You going to make me call or text first?"
"You're the boy."
"Man. I'm the man." He laughed, pulling me in for a hug. "I'll see you later, alright?" I nodded.
"Wait." he let me go. "What if you can't get your car through the snow?" I asked, sticking a hand in the top of the fluffy stuff. He scratched his head, looking around then back at me.
"Follow you back to your dorm and sleep on the couch?"
"Ok." I shrugged. he got in his car, closing the door. The engine turned over, the tires spinning, but not going anywhere. They sped up, melting the snow and moving a few feet, stopping again. The car went backwards, sliding back to its parked spot. Harry climbed out, looking sheepish.
"Sleep over!" He cheered, dancing with his hands in the air. I cackled as he ran slowly over to me, slipping on the last step and reaching out for support, dragging me down with him. We both groaned, rolling off each other and onto the ice. "That hurt a lot more than I thought it would going down." He sputtered between giggles.
"Oh, you idiot! That hurt!" I smacked his gut with the back of my hand, clamoring up. He pushed my back to help me up, grabbing the curb to help himself.
"Looks like 'next time' is happening a whole lot sooner than we thought." He smiled, eyes shining. "Second date." He nudged me as we began walking.
"That was a date?"
"I don't know. If it was, it was a blind date."
"Semi-blind." I corrected.
"Is it even possible to be semi-blind?" he asked, his hands in his pockets and the collar of his jacket flipped up.
"You can have super bad eye sight?" I offered, gazing at his profile.
"That is true." He dipped his head slightly, eyes flicking to look at me quickly before looking back ahead. These stupid side glances were not left behind in high school, apparently. I think I'm ok with that though.

Notes

I am going to write because I like it. I may not be the best writer, but I enjoy it. I'll update whenever I feel like it.
