Side Glances

4

"I don't even know, high school was rough." I shook my head, my hand over my face.
"Nah, come on. Seriously, high school was bliss." Harry laughed, trying another station on the radio. His butt was really close to my face. "Do you know this song?" He looked back at me, green eyes sparkling in the white light coming through the snow. I listened for a minute.
"No, you?"
"No. I don't do country." He chuckled before turning the dial again. He banged his head before turning past the station, giggling lightly. He would stop periodically and check my reaction.
"No! Go back! Back back back!" I slapped his thigh repeatedly, chanting loudly. He switched it back to the thing, plopping back down in his seat, staring at me.
"You like this one?" He asked, putting his elbow on his knee, his head closer to mine.
"Yeah. Who wouldn't?" I rested my head on the seat, my body facing him. I closed my eyes.
"I don't know." I opened one eye, peeking at him. He was in the same position I was, head against the seat, facing me, blanket around his hips. The blanket I had was tucked around my shoulders. I noticed he was scooted closer to me than before I had closed my eyes. I slowly looked him up and down. His jacket was around his feet, leaving him in his shirt, which was fine with me. His skinny black jeans hugged him perfectly, the boots on his feet a little wide on his ankles. My eyes drew back to his hair. The brown waves looked fluffy, and so touchable. I touched them earlier, so I could attest to the quality of them curls. His eyes were watching me, meaning he new I was checking him out. The smirk on his lips told me he most definitely knew.
"Quit watching me, Harry. It's creepy." I pulled the blanket over my nose, so I could see him, but he couldn't see the smile I was desperately trying to will away.
"I'll stop watching you when you stop staring at me." He countered, raising a brow. I rolled my eyes.
"I was not staring." He scoffed. "I wasn't."
"Then what were you doing?" He smiled, eyes glinting wickedly.
"Thinking." I said the first thing I could come up with. "See, this song..." I paused. "It uh, makes me wonder about things. I guess my eyes were just wandering." I tried to make it sound like it didn't matter.
"Uh huh. I'm sure."
"Shut up." We laughed for a minute, slowly dying out. "Is the heat up all the way?" I shivered. He looked over the seat.
"Yeah. All the way. Are you cold?"
"I'll be fine." He looked at me skeptically. "How deep do you think the snow is?"
"We've been in here for a while, is it still snowing?" We shared a look, both of us throwing the blankets off and shoving our coats back on.

I looked at his back as he stood a few yards away from me. I giggled quietly, hurling the snowball at him, nailing him in the upper back. He stumbled forward, grunting loudly.
"Ha!" I pointed at him. He growled at me playfully and picked up a huge clump of snow, holding it in both hands. "What are you doing?" I asked, stepping backwards as he advanced. I kept moving backward, watching him till he picked up pace and started running. I turned and ran, tripping a few seconds later, falling on my belly. I rolled over in time to see him standing above me and drop the snow boulder on me. I gasped as it went down my shirt and pants.
"Beat that!" He shouted, cackling. The cold ice melted against my skin, leaving giant patches of wetness. I sneered, gripping a small handful of white in my gloved hand, standing up. He closed his eyes and laughed, doubling over and clutching his tummy. I lifted his jacket collar and pushed the snow down his shirt. He straightened immediately, glowering over me.
"Oops?" I timidly held my hands up. He stood tall above me, his arms wrapping around me and lifting me up. I squealed as he sprinted around the car, positioning me against his chest before throwing himself down against the frozen road, his back landing on the ice and sliding. My fingers clung to his arms, arms pressed between his arms and my chest. We went for a slide, ending up twenty feet from where he dropped. He convulsed beneath me. I twisted in his arms.
"That was awesome!" He threw a fist to the air, laughing uncontrollably. I sat up, my knees in between his.
"That was the dumbest thing you could have ever done." He looked at me, still giggling. "You could've died!" I yelled, attempting to stand, but slipping and thumping into his chest again. He let out an 'oof' before letting his arms tangle around me again, his chest rising and falling.
"Sorry." His lips moved against my ear. I sighed.
"Lets go back to my dorm. It's not far, and if we stay out here any longer I'm going to freeze."
"Ha, at least let me buy you dinner first." He wiggled his eyebrows, pushing me off. He stood, offering his hands to me.
"That's not what I meant." We began walking. "Besides, we just re-met today, so really, what do I know about you? You've changed since high school."
"I was kidding. How about, tea and movies?" He put an arm around my shoulders as we trudged through the snow. "When we get to your place."
"Yeah. I know I have all the X-File seasons. Peppermint tea?"
"Sounds nice." He glanced down at me, his lips pulled into a lop-sided grin.
