Side Glances

2

Now, I sit in my dorm, eating ice cream, nutella, chips, and in general, junk food. My musty old college dorm, with loud music next door, my room mate sleeping with every living thing, and guys running naked down the hallways. Yay, college life.

Today was no different, I lay sprawled across the couch, bag of chip on top of me, and the TV flicked on. Some stupid show for younger teens flashed bright colors and happy people faces. I threw a few chips at it.
"Shut up!" I shouted both to the TV and to the people in the room next to me. I could hear the radio in their room over the teeny-bopper thing. I'd say it was loud, yeah. I stopped the TV and settled for listening to the radio, which was now decreasing in volume.
"No, no, no!" I thumped off the couch, stumbling over to the wall and banging on it. "Turn it back up! Hey! Turn it up!" I screamed, the volume pumping again. The floor rattled, along with the walls, as the commercial played. I bit the skin around my nails as I listened intently. The guy on the other side of the wall thumped it.
"Hey, happy now?" He called.
"Yeah! Thanks!"
"Anytime!"
My mind was racing, the idea of seeing him again running rampant through my thoughts. I guess when they say you never really let go of your first love, they mean it. He still crossed my mind every time I saw someone with his hair, or eyes. Man, end of freshman year of college and that stupid kid is still making me nuts.
I wrenched my head, the door crashing open. My room mate, Megan, looked at me.
"What." She greeted flatly. I waved lightly.
"Well that's rude."
"Yeah?" she sneered.
"Yeah?" I mock... sneered..?
"You're such a pest." She huffed, blowing her disgusting scent further into the dorm.
"Well at least I'm not a-"
"Pathetic prude. You just heard that that guy is gonna be in town, you're probably all jittery now, huh?" She widened her eyes, and pouted.
"You look stupid-"
"You look stupid fawning over a guy who doesn't know you exist." she shot back. She is like a fire cracker.
"What do I look like? A dear?" I put a hand on my hip and leaned over a bit, sticking my tongue out. She cocked her head, slamming the door.
"I bet if I put you next to a guy dear he'd bang you." She curled her upper lip, the dark makeup around her eyes making her look intimidating.
"I bet if I put you next to a male porcupine you'd start humping him." I turned around, waiting for another round of shots from her. Instead, I was replied to with silence, then a sigh.
"Look, I know we hate each other, but I have a friend of a friend of a friend, who will remain un-named, who got me this guys phone number. I took it upon myself to call this guy, whatever his name was, and told him he had a friend here." I covered my mouth, looking back at her. She looked almost, cautious? "He wants to meet up with you next week." She finished. My jaw hung slack. "Pick your jaw up off the floor, you'll catch flies."
"Oh my god." She smiled shyly. "When? Where? Oh My God Megan This Is Huge!"
"That's what she said." She muttered under her breath. She watched me pace back and forth. "The little coffee thing a coupe blocks from here, and Tuesday. Breakfast." She flung down on the couch, which was now chip-less. They were on the ground.
"What am I going to wear? Holy-"
"Wear that grey thing you wear. when its cold, the grey thing." She whirled her hands around. "With the leggings and things." She snapped the bag off the floor and started eating. "It looks kind of good on you. I think he'll like it. I mean, if we were both lesbians, I'd totally tap that."
