Dancing with a Star

07. Deciding

Waking up with a heavy heart and tears in my eyes is something I haven’t done in a very long time, ever since Wesley was born.
My husband was killed in a car accident a few months after we were married. We were young and in love, with a child on the way. Not the best situation for marriage, especially when I went from living off my parents, who were fabulously wealthy, to having nothing and leaving college out of it.
It took a toll on us. We lived at my older brother’s place, did a little up-keeping, since he was gone to war.
My husband was coming back from work, he picked up a factory job once the bills were rolling in. That was the night I got the call.
Flashback
“Mrs. Sutter?” an unfamiliar man said.
“Yes, this is she.”
“This is Officer Andy Williams. Will you please come down to the police station for a minute?”
“Why? What’s wrong? Is my husband okay?”
“Please, just come on down.”
I grabbed my coat, slipped on my Chacos, grabbed my keys, and ran to the car.
I drove towards the station, the worry and agony of not knowing making me sick to my stomach. I’ve always hated surprises.
It took a little longer to get to the Sheriff’s Office then it usually does, due to there have been a wreck earlier. They had already cleared the cars, so it didn’t take me long to get through. I ran into the station, looking anywhere and everywhere for Officer Andy.
I then realized that I still looked like the pregnant wife I was. I had on my husband’s athletic shorts, a tank top, and thankfully I wear a sports bra to bed.
“Mrs. Sutter?”
I spun around, seeing an officer standing behind me.
“Officer Williams?”
He smiled slightly and nodded.
“Um. Will you follow me please?”
I nodded, petrified that I was going to be told my husband was arrested. Either that or my sister, she always has been a party animal.
Once we entered a private room, he closed the door and turned to me.
“Um, I really don’t know how to say this-”
“Please, just say it. I’m pregnant, I shouldn’t worry like this.”
“Your husband was driving, doing everything right. He wasn’t texting or anything like that. He was at a green light and continued on, but right as he did, a drunk driver ran a red light going 100 miles per hour. They hit his door. He died on impact.”
The whole room went fuzzy as tears welled up in my eyes. I ran out of the room, feeling like I was suffocating. I need air.
Running outside, the cool air hit my face. I knew I didn’t need to be alone, so I called the only person I could trust. It rang, and rang.
“Hi! You’ve reached Angelina Mayer. I’m sorry I missed your call. I am either in London with my family, at work, with friends, or having sex. Please don’t call me again. Thank you! Goodbye!”
Well, little one, I guess we are alone.
Flashback ends.
I wiped the tears.
“Momma?” I hear a small voice.
“Hey, buddy,” I say, wiping my tears.
“What’s wrong?”
“Oh, just missing your dad.”
“It’s okay, Momma. We’ll see him again.”
“Yeah, we will.”
I then saw the time on the clock.
“Shoot, buddy. Momma has to get to practice. Be good for Grandma. Okay?”
He nodded as I went into the bathroom to change into my blue yoga capris and changed my sports bra into a black strappy one that covered more, as well as supporting me better. I threw my hair into a ponytail before slipping on my black Nikes. I grabbed my bag from the corner of the room that had my dance shoes in it, as well as a towel.
I ran downstairs and grabbed a couple cold waters and my keys before running outside to my car, heading to the studio.
Thankfully, I beat Niall.
When Niall walked in, the atmosphere was different. Almost, saddening.
“Niall James Horan.”
“Uh oh. I swear I didn’t do it.”
I smiled.
“Okay, Niall. I told the camera crew to leave us alone today because we weren’t learning our dance today or any technique.”
“Then, what are we doing?”
“Get to know each other a little better.”
He nodded and plopped down beside me.
“Okay, you start.”
“My maiden name is Evelina Rose Mayer, but I was married at 18 to a guy that I was and somewhat still am madly in love with. I have a four-year-old son named Wesley Luke Sutter. My husband was killed by a drunk driver who ran a red light after we had only been married about two months, so it has pretty much been just Wes and I. Oh and my parents cut me off as soon as they found out I was pregnant and that we had snuck to the courthouse to get hitched. Okay. Your turn.”
“Okay. My name is Niall James Horan. I was thrown into fame at the young age of 16 with four idiots, who I grew to love like brothers. I have a little nephew named Theo. I haven’t had a serious relationship ever, although I’m starting to fall for someone. I haven’t talked to my parents face-to-face in about a year. My whole life for the past six years have been nothing but road trips and pre-made destinations.”
“Do you ever regret it?”
“What? Becoming famous?”
I nodded, getting really deep.
“I’m being honest, sometimes I do. Then, I take a step back and think about what else I would want to do and all I can think is tour more.”
I smiled, jumping up.
“Alright. I called you here because I need your help.”
“Oh, so it wasn’t just to have deep conversations?”
“No. Sorry. I have an idea for Disney week, sort of.”
“Can’t decide which song can you?”
“Okay, honestly, I’m stuck between five.”
“What five?”
Can You Feel the Love Tonight, Gaston, Almost There, Be Our Guest, A Whole New World.”
Niall smiled.
“Okay, I have never heard Almost There. Personally, I want thing to be different. I vote for Almost There.
I smiled before grabbing his hand.
“Well, then Prince Naveen, time for us to start dancing,” I said, giggling.
We danced around that day to nothing like we’ve ever done before.
It honestly made me remember why I started dancing in the first place. It wasn’t because I was forced into dancing lessons. It wasn’t because of the rush performing.
It was simply because I loved doing it.
“Evelina, I want to ask you something,” Niall asked, out of breath from our practice.
“Okay, ask away.”
“Evelina Rose, would you like to have dinner with me tonight?”
“Are you- are you asking me on a date?”
“Depends on the answer.”

Definitely! Denny's is definitely better! I like the nachos at Dennys. :) Waffle House just isn't good to me. My family loves it, but it makes me sick.
