Mandolin Rain

Harry's POV

We're all sitting around the fire, it's nice to just relax and kick back every now and then. I chime in with conversation when Niall and Liam tell their stories, and offer up a few of my own to make everyone laugh. Looking around you can really see the friendship everyone has, really see the love that Joe and Rose share, all cuddled up together, makes me quite jealous. I look out the corner of my eye and see Elliot lost in thought.

“You alright?” I gently nudge her elbow to bring her back.

“Yeah, just tired. Listening to everyone.” She smiles as she leans her had back.

“Care to share your giant blanket? I'm cold.” I'm really not cold but any excuse to get closer to her is okay with me.

“Scoot closer.” She demands of me and I quickly scoot my chair closer to hers, our arm rests slipping over each other as she throws the blanket over my legs.

“Thank you.” I tell her as I re-adjust myself with the weight of the blanket.

We sit in silence still listening to everyone around us as I feel her shift, leaning closer to me. She looks so tired. I feel her hand come up and touch mine but quickly retreating as if she didn't know mine was resting there, against my better judgment, knowing I still have a girlfriend, I quickly pull her arm back up with mine an lace my fingers together with hers. I feel her tense up, then relax in a matter of seconds.

I didn't notice she was sleeping until she rolled her head from the back of the chair and it rested on my shoulder. I don't stop it at all, it feels like this is how it's suppose to be, natural. I notice Liam glaring at me but I ignore it. I know he likes Elliot, he just doesn't want her to find out I'm still with Zoe, he doesn't like that I haven't told Elliot the truth or broken it off with Zoe. But in my mind Zoe and I were done months ago, the moment I met Elliot, Zoe and I were done.

---------------------------------

After another hour or so, Joe and Elliot's friends are gone, Elliot is still sleeping on my shoulder and Rose, Liam and Niall have joined the snooze train. Joe and I can't help but laugh at the situation.

“I'm going to take Rose up and I'll come back for Elliot.” Joe tells me.

“I can help you get her upstairs.” I volunteer my services and Joe nods trying to hid his smile.

“I know you like her.” He tells me.

“I don't hid it very well.” I laugh along with him.

“Apparently to her you do. I can be right back down, just going to get Rose up the steps.” It's Joe. “You guys can stay if you want.” He offers.

“Well thanks, but I'll just wake them up and take them back to my place, all their stuff is there and we have an mid morning session we need to get stuff ready for in the morning” I take my hand back from Elliot's and quietly get out of the chair. I stand and stretch for a little bit.

“Well if you change your mind.” Joe offers up.

“Thanks.” I quickly slide my hand under Elliot's shoulder and the other under her knees, lifting her with ease. The blanket falls to the ground and Elliot scoots closer to me and lets out a soft moan. I can't help but let out the air I've been holding in, I feel oddly intimate with her right now, being this close and listening to her breath.

I walk down the hall and turn at the only open door, I know the purple duvet is hers. I'm, presented with a problem, realizing of course that Elliot makes her bed every morning, I can't quite flick the covers back with my feet.

“Elliot, I have to lift the covers back, just hold on to me.” I know she's sleeping so I don't know how she'll stand but I keep her arms around my neck as I place her feet on the ground and quickly throw the blankets off to the side. I pick her back up and place her in bed, taking her flimsy shoes off and straightening her legs out then place the covers back over her .

I can't help but look at her. Before I know what I'm doing, I lean over and push the hair away from her face face. I admire her simple beauty and let my heart take over as I lean down and kiss her forehead.

“Good night beautiful. I wish I could stay.” The words slip out of my mouth as I quickly regain my composure and walk out of the room, leaving Elliot to sleep.

---------------------------------------

“Elliot are you ready?” I as when I walk into her studio. We have a lunch date. It's been a few days since I admitted my liking of her to her cousin. I don't think he's said anything because Elliot hasn't acted any different.

“Just one minute Harry.” She looks up at me, I didn't notice she was on the phone. I flash an “I'm sorry” face and quietly bow back out of the studio.

“Well hello Harry!” I look up and see Elliot's mum, Stormy, at the desk.

“Hi Storm. How are you today?” I ask taking a seat on the lower counter.

“Doing well. Got my shots, we're all ready to go.” I look at her confused. “Ahh, Rain didn't tell you?” She asks and I shake my head no. “Rain's dad, Thomas, and I are shipping out. Going back to work for Doctors without Boarders. Her dad is a doctor. She hasn't told you any of this? Nothing about her childhood?”

“No. Not really.” I shake my head, the only thing she's told me was that she was home schooled until she was in sixth grade.

“Well goodness! Let's see, Rain was born when we were in South Africa.” I stand there shocked. “We moved around quite a bit while Thomas was working. Humm, she was born in South Africa, then we moved to Brazil, then I think Spain. After Spain was China and last but not least Australia. We finally decided when the River and Moss were 15 , Phoenix was 13 and Rain was ten that we needed to settle. We settled here, I opened the studio and we lived a normal life. But now that everyone is settled, Thomas and I have the itch to move again, we just got our final round of vaccines and we're off to Thailand in a few weeks!” She explains to me and I sit in wonder. That's crazy. I had no idea that Elliot has done all those things.

“She usually doesn't tell a lot of people because Rain thinks people will think she's lying. I don't know why. River, Moss, and Phoenix love telling people all the different places they've lived.” Who the hell is River, Moss, and Phoenix?

“River, Moss, and Phoenix?” I ask.

“OH, well you probably know them as James, Andrew, and Ethan? Rain's brothers.” She smiles. “Apparently my children prefer their middle names then their unique first names.”

“Harry, you ready?” Elliot comes up to me from behind.

“Yeah, just hearing about all your adventures from when you were growing up.” I tell her, I'm not upset but I just thought she would have said something to me about it by now.

“Ahh, all of our adventures huh? Washing our clothes on rocks, not taking baths for days, dancing in the mud, learning a new language every two years that we never understood. It was quite an adventure. Bye mom.” She waves her mom away as we walk towards the exit.

“How come you never told me about all that?” I ask. I'm not mad, just a little hurt that she hasn't mentioned anything.

“I don't know. Most people think I'm bragging about living in all these different countries but it wasn't glamorous and half the time not even exciting. Dad was always busy dealing with people who had extremely contagious lethal diseases, sometimes we would go weeks without seeing him. And now that they're older, they want to do it again.” I guess I didn't really think about the problems that come up with it. “I'm sorry.” She bumps my shoulder with hers.

“It's okay. Anything else you'd like to offer up?” I give her the chance.

“Nope, everything else is an open book, including that part of my life now!” She smiles at me as I suddenly feel guilty, I can't get angry with her about not telling me about her childhood and then keep lying to her about being single.

------------------------

“Hey Harry, are you free this weekend?” She asks as we sit down a little too close to the table next to us if you ask me.

“Um, yes I actually am. Why?” I ask trying to adjust myself so I'm not elbow to elbow with the guy literally two feet away from me.

“Well, my cousins, brothers, and I always go on this big weekend camping trip and it's this weekend. Want to join?” She seems nervous to ask me, tucking her loose hair behind her ears and looking at everything but me.

“Camping? As in sleeping outside?”

“Well we have tents.” She smirks at me.

“Um, sure?” I have a grimace on my face.

“Are you sure?” She's not convinced of my acceptance.

“I've just never been one to camp.” He admits to me.

“Well it's fun. All my hippie cousins all together and having fun.” She smiles at me but quickly stops. “Drug free, of course.”

I can't help but laugh.

Please do a sequel!

@All-is-on
Ah thank you!! I'm super excited that you're reading my other stories, Liam's story needs a bit more looking back at it but it was my first! And a lot of people don't like how I ended it, I've been thinking about adding a bonus chapter for a while but I'm all wrapped up in Niall's story at the moment! :)
