Running After You
Four
"Niall," Rosa groaned. "We've been here for three days! Can't we at least go to Belfast so we can get out of this stinky, old car?"
"Yeah, we'll be there in a half hour or so," I said, making her groan and hot her head against the window repeatedly.
"I know you're searching for you're girl--"
"She's just my friend," I barked at her, seeing hurt in her eyes for an unknown reason. I quickly went away.
"...but you've been asking around for her, and no one recognized her. Shes probably..." She let her words run out on her. "I dot think you should be looking for her, Niall. You said she left when you were fifteen, that was-"
"Almost five years ago," I finished for her, "I know, Rosa. One more day, and I'll be off to another continent. I'll be out of your hair; you won't need to see me ever again."
"Niall," she said, "pull over." I did as she said.
She unbuckled, turned to me, and just looked at me for a second.
"Do you really think I don't ever want to see you again?" I stayed quiet, focusing on her pale complexion, or her red and blue hair. "We've been siting in this car for almost a week. You're the first person I've really got to known in a really...really long time."
"So?" I whispered.
"So, I don't want to throw that away. You're like my best friend now, Niall." I clamped my hands over my ears, shaking my head. I heard my name being muffled through.
"Niall, you have to move on! Naomi left years ago," Rosa yelled at me, her face getting red with anger. "She's not coming back!"
"No! She is!" I scream at her. "I'm going to find her!" With that, I open the car door, and run into the woods that just so happened to be right next to us.
"Niall, come back," I hear faint yells from Rosa, and a car door slam. But I know she's not comin into the woods, and that fuels me to run farther from her, getting away from Rosa.
