Invisible I
Chatty
I continued chatting with my friends until Mika said that she had to leave for a photo shoot and since it was her phone, she had to take it with her. I told them that the rain had almost stopped anyway (I lied) and that I was tired.
The boys got up and left a few minutes later, so it was just me and the employees. Some of them came in and out to switch shifts and I looked at my phone. It was nearly 5:00! I had been sitting in Starbucks for nearly eight hours just watching the rain! One of the girls who was leaving came over to me.
"Did you walk here?" she asked.
"Um, sort of," I replied shyly.
"Do you need a ride back to your house or something?"
"Oh, no, I couldn't make you do that. I'm only a block away. I can just walk when the rain stops," I said.
"The rain's not going to stop for a while so I'd suggest coming with me," she said, grabbing my wrist and pulling me out the door. Just before we got outside, she opened an umbrella and held it above our heads. She walked over to a cherry red Mazda 6 and unlocked the door, motioning for me to get inside.
"But isn't that side the passenger side?" I asked, confused.
"No, silly. That's the passenger side, this is the driver's side," she said, getting in. I just shrugged and got into the warm cab.
"That's some rain," I said, making idle chitchat.
"Yeah. It's not like this every day, I promise," she said, laughing. "Oh! Where are my manners today? I'm Jaedyn. That's J-A-E-D-Y-N ."
"Chatty?"
"Very. I love making new friends and seeing new faces," she said. "What's your name?"
"Carmella," I said. "My hotel's that way."
"Cool name! It kinda sounds like 'caramel'. Can I call you that?"
"No," I said.
"Aw! Why not? It's cute!"
"Because my friend at home calls me that and he's the only one that does," I explained. "I still hate it, though."
"Back home? Where are you from? Are you from America? I've always wanted to go there! Did you move here?"
"Yeah, I'm from the US. And no, I didn't move here. I'm just here for the summer. I won a contest," I explained. "Well, here's my hotel I have to go now bye!"
"Oh, wait! Did you see those boys that were there?" she asked quickly, grabbing my arm.
"Yeah, I did. Bye!" I said, stepping out and closing the door before she could say anything else. I ran into the building so I wouldn't get too wet and took the elevator up to my floor, then unlocked my door and changed into dry clothes.
I sure hope I never have to see her again.
