The Girl Next Door
Closing Time
"What did I do?" I kept muttering to myself at lunch. Girls kept crowding my lunch table. Jonathan, my buddy, shooed them away like they were a flock of pigeons. "Go away, shoo. Give the man his privacy. Five bucks for an upclose later". "Jon!" I shouted at the idiot. "Fine!Fine!" he said. They all finally left. He turned to me, "What's wrong, my friend? Lady woes for those I can gladly help you with. Just take me along so I can hit on the best friend." "You're such an arsehole Jon" I said as I threw my ball at him. "Tell me why so glum?"
"I told Lily to take the high road"
"Oh no you didn't"
"Oh yes I did"
"Did she slap you man?"
"No, but her empty, cold reply did."
"Just make it up to her."
"How?"
"Profess your love to her."
"No you arse, I'm not in love with her for the hundredth time." Right?
"Fine whatever, but do something."
That night I sneaked out of my house and walked up to hers. I climbed the fire escape and opened her window. She was lying on her bed and playing ball with the ceiling. I went and lied down next to her. I took my iPod out of my pocket and played her favorite song. The sound of slow guitar music filled the room.
Closing time
You don't have to go home but you can't stay here
I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
She turned to look at me and smiled. As we stared at the ceiling, she reached out for my hand and squeezed it. My heart skipped a beat.
I'm not in love with her...........right?
