Bad Decisions Make Good Stories

Nick 1

*2 months later*

Nick's POV:

“Roxana!” I flung my hands around happily and got up to hug my friend when she entered our studio. Rox huffed annoyed, but hugged me back nevertheless. I took in her appearance, she had gotten thinner, still, and her eyes were slightly red. But other than that, she looked fantastic, her usual style right in place.

“Morning, Nick,” she mumbled and then greeted the rest of the crew. LMC was basically pissing herself with excitement, she was a huge fan of Rox.

“Alright, so you sit right here,” I told her, leading her to the chair opposite mine and sitting her down. “And we're just gonna have a little chat, alright? Try to relax. And no swearing!” I wriggled my fingers as a warning, to which she just chuckled, taking a deep sip of the coffee LMC put before her.

“Aaand this was Bastille with their new single 'Pompeii', please welcome our guest for today, Roxana Blackwood!” I cheered, making all the others clap with me.

“Jeez, Nick, calm down,” Rox chuckled into the mic, and I was surprised to how good she sounded on radio. I had her in my show once before, when her first book came out, and now, that the release for the second was only days away, I had invited her again.

“So... Roxana, it's good to have you with us, it's not often we get people outside of the music business to chat with us,” I started off.

“Quality show, eh?” she chuckled back, rolling her eyes.

“No, but really, I think our listeners went crazy during these last few days when I announced you would be coming in. They're pretty excited for your new book,” I lightly chatted away.

“Well, I'm pretty excited for them to read it. I think it turned out okay,” she replied modestly. I forgot how civilized she could be if she wanted.

“I'm pretty sure it's more than okay. Tell us about it!” I encouraged her, and Rox took a deep breath before she started talking.

“It's the same character like the first one, and it's just another series of her adventures. How she deals with life, love, death and so on,” she explained and I nodded.

“Right, Cassie Salinger, that's her name, right?” I asked and she nodded and said a brief 'yes'. “Can you tell us something about her? For the people who haven't read your first book.”

“Cassie is basically a girl who does what she wants, without any regrets. But she gets caught up in problems that arise with this sort of lifestyle. Family, friends... she needs to pull herself together in order to not end up alone. But that's harder said than done for her. She's a Hemingway kind of girl, living life to the fullest, without limits,” she explained, and I almost got carried away listening to her voice.

“Sounds familiar, huh? Would you say that Cassie is autobiographical?” I asked, hanging on her lips. She huffed while chuckling lowly.

“Course she is. Show me the author who claims his fictional characters are not autobiographical, and I will tell you he is a liar,” she came straight to the point.

“Word,” LMC mumbled in the background, loud enough so that the listeners could hear as well. I started giggling.

“LMC is slightly fangirling in the back there,” I said, making LMC blush and Rox chuckle.

“What can I say? Your writing is fantastic,” LMC almost whispered, all shy all of a sudden. Rox leant over and squeezed her arm while smiling.

“Thanks, love. I really like your style,” she gave back and LMC's eyes widened.

“In case you haven't heard that and you are not watching, I think LMC's about to faint; Rox just gave her a compliment,” I laughed loudly, lightening up the mood in the studio.

“So... let's move to another topic. Your love life,” I said with a dramatic tone in my voice and Rox groaned.

“Hey, you didn't give us any regulations, so I can and will talk about it,” I said, waving my hands through the air. Rox shot me a death glare, but the corners of her mouth twitched lightly.

“I have here the cover of a magazine, where you're on it and is that – well it can't be? Zayn Malik from One Direction you are snogging?” I asked, holding up the cover.

“Looks like it,” Rox replied curtly, and I smiled demonically. I loved it when guests didn't try to hide anything.

“So, you guys are a thing?” I pried further.

“We're having a good time, yeah,” she replied, crossing her arms.

“I know you're gonna hate me for this; but are you the reason he broke up with Perrie?” I then asked, making everyone in the studio completely silent and staring at Rox. She didn't say anything for a couple of seconds before a slow, sly smile formed on her mouth.

“It coincided,” she said and I erupted in sounds of approval while the rest of the crew whistled. It was definitely something different having someone so honest in the studio. Usually, you had to talk your way around celebrities, avoiding certain questions, but Rox was an open book. Almost.

“And you've also been photographed with Harry and Niall from the same band, what about that?” I asked further, trying to see how far I could get.

“Jesus, Nick, you were with us the one time and the other time I just hung out with Niall. I honestly had no idea they were all in a band together,” she groaned and rolled her eyes.

“So much for that, then. I guess you won't be saying any more to that subject?” I asked, grinning sweetly.

“Definitely not,” Rox smiled and shook her head.

“Alright, so then we have a few questions from our viewers, you ready?” I asked and she nodded.

“Who is your biggest celebrity crush?”

“Nick Grimshaw.”

“Aw, thanks, babe. What's your favourite song at the moment?”

“Wild for the Night.”

“I can see why, this song was made for you, love. Alright, another one: where do you see yourself in five years?” I asked, making her laugh briskly.

“In rehab due to exhaustion that came with annoying interview questions,” she replied and we were silent for a moment before we all burst into laughter.

“Alright, that was it, thank you so, so much Roxana! It was a real pleasure like always!” I said and the crew clapped again.

“Thank you for having me, I had fun,” she smiled and I switched to the next track and got up. I hugged her long and fierce, crushing her tiny frame against mine. I could see Zayn watching from the hallway, looking sceptical through the glass.

“He's miserable, I hope you know that,” I whispered into Rox's ear while we were still hugging and she tensed up.

“Why would I care? He left me,” she said back, looking into my eyes. I shrugged my shoulders and we started walking.

“He just wanted to do the right thing. Talk to him,” I encouraged her but she just shook her head.

“If Harry wants to talk, he has my number. Goodbye, Nick,” she said and gave me a kiss on the cheek before she left the studio. I watched as Zayn pecked her lips once before he led her away. The sight of Rox with a boyfriend was very strange, but somehow, these two made it work.
