Urban Legend ♡
Chapter Two.
Liam’s POV
Taylah was the first to shriek, but Stephanie covered her mouth quickly. “Shoosh.” She whispered; her voice hushed and shaky.
I turned around to the girls. “I’ll check it out; it’s probably a long or something.” I shot Taylah a reassuring look, and the panic in her eyes made me worry.
“I saw it.” She pried Steph’s hand off her face and whispered it.
“You didn’t see anything. There’s nothing there god dammit.”Stephanie said all too quickly.
“Is someone scared? Want me to hold you?” Louis teased. Steph just rolled her eyes.
I got out of the truck and peered into the musty darkness. I knew for sure that nobody was there. I also knew, we’d definitely hit something. I went around to the front of the truck, and immediately called for Louis.
“What is it?” He said, shutting the door as he got out of the truck.
I just pointed at the ground, a bit too horrified to speak.
Spilt out along the road and just on the front of my truck was a pool of dark blood.
Louis knelt down and took a closer look at, and boy, there was a heap of it. After a few seconds, he got up. “We probably just hit a deer or something. It’s probably just gotten up and ran off. I mean, we weren’t going fast enough to…” He paused. “Kill it.”
I looked at Louis.
“Just get in the truck.” He breathed.
As soon as we got in, Taylah questioned us.
“What is it?”
The nerves in my voice made me want to crawl back there and hug her. “Tay, it’s nothing.” I smiled, trying to keep my voice steady. “It was just a log.” I didn’t want to lie to her, but telling her about the blood would ruin the whole trip for her.
I restarted the ignition and pulled out onto the road for the third time this night.
“To the cabin!” Stephanie called, pumping her fist in the air, trying to lift everyone’s spirits.
The drive to the cabin wasn’t long now, but the silence in the truck was deafening. I turned up the radio.
“Urgh, not this country shit again. I think I’m gonna regurgitate all over your truck Liam.” Taylah groaned.
I laughed, turning the ‘country shit’ up louder. Louis looked over at me, then through his head back in laughter. The car was pounding with heel hitting, hand clapping, heehaws, and I put the car into first gear, pushing my foot down on the acceleration.
The moon was beaming and the white light spread over the mountains of tall pine trees that surrounded us.
I look into the rearview mirror at Taylah. She’d rolled the window down, and was smiling into the cold night wind as it blew her hair back.
I few minutes into the high speed hick, the dreadful and definitely unwanted red and blue lights came flashing from behind us. I immediately turned the music down and pulled over.
“Yes officer?”I said once the policeman was out of his car. He was definitely from around here. He had the typical county sheriff look going on. He had his shirt tucked in to his good ole denim jeans, and he sported the cowboy boots and the cowboy hat with pride.
“Morning.” He said with the tip of his hat. I tried to hold in my laughter as he leant on the side of the truck, peering in.
“What’s this about officer? We have somewhere to be.” Louis butted in.
“Where you headed to?” He asked.
This time, Stephanie butted in. “We’re headed to my dad’s cabin. It’s just down a little further, than we take a dirt track into the pine forest. He’s rented it to us for the Summer.” She beamed at the officer. Good old Stephanie charm.
“Know anything about the blood splattered road?” He suddenly went serious, eyeing me off as if I was the prime suspect.
“Blood?” I asked, acting confused.
“Yep, looks like you’ve got some on your bumper.”
“We hit a deer, so what?” Louis argued, getting annoyed.
He raised his brows. “You sure?”
“Mate, what else could we have hit? We’re out in the middle of nowhere! What type of freak would come one hundred miles into the forest alone… At night?!” Louis was good at this type of stuff.
“Rightio then, have a good trip!” The officer tipped his hat again and scooted back to his car, taking off faster than we thought.
“Well that shut him up.” Taylah giggled.
“Now, for the fucking fourth time; to the cabin!” Steph yelled. This time, we all yelled with her.
***
We’d finally reached the dirt road that took us to the cabin. I veered down it and revved the engine to accelerate, making dust fly up and engulf the car as I sped down the road.
After a few sharp turns, a clearing came into view. The pine trees spread open, gradually making a semicircle and coming around the meet a lake. The lake opened up to the sky, and the moonlight reflected off the waveless water. The light seeped in, lightening up a cabin that sat in the middle of it all.
“This is beautiful!” Taylah gaped.
“Sure is.” Steph beamed with pride, grabbing onto her best friends hand. I loved how I could watch these magic moment unfold in the rearview mirror.

I pulled up next to the cabin, the gravel driveway crunching under the heavy truck.
Everyone jumped out and stretched their legs. “Urgh this feels so good!” I smiled up into the fresh midnight air.
Louis went around the back and started dumping our bags on the ground. “So how do we get inside?”
The moon was bright that we could just see what we were doing.
Steph pulled a set of keys out of her jean pocket. They clanged and clattered. “One of these!”
Taylah and I helped Louis pull the bags out, and Steph went to unlock. “This is gonna be the best Summer.” Taylah turned and smiled at me. I looked back at her. It’s crazy, we’ve been best friends for so long, so I don’t know why I’m getting these strange feelings every time she smiles at me like that.
I finally agreed with her. “Absolutely.”
We carried our bags up to the door. Steph fiddled with the keys until one of them made the door click and pop open. The cabin was small. Steph entered first and flicked a light on. A king-sized bed with an old-fashioned duvet sat to left of us, surrounded by only two log walls. The same was on the opposite side of the cabin.
“So much for privacy.” Louis whined. “What’re we gonna do now?” He winked at Steph, who rolled her eyes for the hundredth time so far.
We all dumped our bags in the on the small table that sat in the minor kitchen. It had one stove, a kettle, a small fridge and a few bench tops. On the other side of the room, there was an old lounge and a battered up television that probably didn’t even work.
“This’ll do.” Taylah shrugged.
“Ok, who dibs what bed?” Louis sat on one of the bench tops.
“First things first, who’s sleeping with who?” Taylah asked.
“How bout’ we play a little game?” Louis winked.
“How about boys with boys and girls with girls?” Stephanie whined.
“How about let’s just play the game Steph.” Taylah looked at her, annoyed, than relaxed. “I mean, it’s our Summer break, let’s have some fun!”
“I’ll get the bottle!” Louis raised his arms.
***
We all sat down in front of the lounge. “Ok, all’s you do is spin this bottle. Whoever it lands on, you room with.” He paused for a second. “AND. You have to give them a cheeky little kiss to show you’re happy with the choice.”
Taylah clapped her hands. “How exciting!”
We had all been best friends for so incredibly long, that this stuff wasn’t awkward. This is what we did for fun.
Steph relaxed a little and a smile grew on her face. I knew she’d come out of her shell when we got here.
Louis spun the bottle first. It spun around and round and everyone was silent as it slowed.
I laughed when it landed on me.
“Yep, good practice run guys. Woo! Ok, now for real, yeah?” Louis smirked.
“Yeah.” Taylah agreed, laughing a little at Louis stupidity.
He spun the bottle again, and I was happy when it landed on Steph.
“For real?” She laughed and leaned into Louis.
Their kiss was short, but Louis had time to put his hand up on her cheekbone.
“Oh yeah, good way to start this Summer break!” Louis leant back and put his arms behind his head.
“I’ll go now.” Taylah grabbed the bottle. I sat up a little straighter.
She spun the bottle, but not too fast. It slowed quickly and landed on Louis. “Sorry babe I’m taken.” He nudged Stephanie.
“Here, I’ll try.” I grabbed the bottle and sure enough, it landed on Taylah.
She went slightly red as I leaned into her. She put her hand on the back of my neck and kissed me. She paused and smiled into my lips before pulling away.
“Woo!” Steph chuckled. “Now we know who’s bedding with who, can we unpack?”
“Unpack? It’s like three in the morning!” Louis said.
“Yeah, we should get some sleep, let’s do it in the morning.” I told Steph.
“Alrighty.” She sighed, getting up and following Louis to the bed.
She peeled her jeans off and crawled into the bed with her undies and shirt on. Louis chucked his shirt on the ground and crawled in beside her. I laughed as I watched Louis try to cuddle up to Steph, but Steph rolling over and palming him off.
I turned and Taylah was still sitting on the ground. I helped her up with one hand. “Come on!” I smiled.
We walked over to the bed and Taylah took her jeans off. She looked so cute with just her shirt and undies on. I took my shirt off and climbed into the bed. Surprisingly, the sheets didn’t skink, and we’re quite comfy. “I guess I’ll turn the light out.” Taylah laughed.
I watched her as she ran over to the switch on her toes and flicked it off. I heard her ran back to the bed and felt her slide in next to me. I didn’t know whether to put my arm around her or not, but thankfully she answered me by turning into me and cuddling onto my chest. I breathed deeply and cuddled into her. “Night.” I whispered. She giggled under breath.
The cabin was silent now, and I was just about to drift off when Taylah’s whole body jumped. I opened my eyes and peered at her. I could just make out the slight features of her face, and her eyes were closed.
I closed mine and shifted a bit into the warmth of her body. Taylah immediately jumped again. But this time, she yelped a bit. I opened my eyes again, and this time her eyes were wide open.
“Tell me you heard that.”
All I could hear was Louis’ slight snores and Steph breathing softly, both of them asleep.“Heard what?”
Her voice shook as she spoke and her grip on me tightened as she shifted closer to me.
“That voice…”
