Criminal Romance

Chapter One

I heard the footsteps coming and braced myself. I knew I should've chosen a better place to smoke. Standing up slowly, I turned around and leaned against the ground waiting to see who was coming. Expecting the worst, I almost laughed at how harmless the guy who now stood in front of me looked.
"Got a light?" The curly-haired boy in front of me asked. I sighed as those three words that brought back something I'd rather forget.
-Flashback-
I looked over to the blonde who had just sat down next to me. I sighed mentally, wondering why this beautiful guy was talking to me.
"Pardon?" I asked.
"I said, do you have a light?" He replied, a smirk setting on his lips.
"Oh no, I don't smoke." I informed him. His smirk deepened.
"Too bad, now I'll have to make up another excuse to sit next to you."
I blushed when I realized he was implying he wanted to sit by me. We sat and talked for a while until I looked at my watch. "Crap, I gotta go! I'm gonna be late for work!" I cried out when I saw the time. I stood up to leave and turned away and began to walk away.
"Wait!" I heard from behind me. I turned around curious as to what he wanted.
"Yes?" I said, semi-impatiently.
"Give me your phone so I can put my number in." He said. I sighed handing it over, watching closely as he typed his contact in.
"Thanks." I said as he handed me my phone back.
"I'll see you around." He said.
And that was when my life went to hell.

Carmen’s POV
I was brought back to reality by snapping fingers in front of my face.
“Anyone home?” a curly-haired boy I didn’t know said from beside me.
“What?” I all but spat out.
“I said-” He started.
“I know what you said.”
“Then why’d you ask?”
“Because it’s none of your business if I spend my free time thinking and ignoring strangers.”
“Well damn, you only had to say you didn’t have a light.”
At the mention of it, I pulled out a pack and lit up one for me. “I do, just not one for you.” I turned my back on him and begin to walk away.
“Wait!” he called out to me. I slowed my steps, barely. “I never caught your name.” He said.
“And I never offered it to you.” I replied as I continued walking away.
“Well, my name’s Harry!” were the last words I heard before I turned the corner.

Harry, I thought to myself as I continued down the road towards the gym. When I walked into the gym, I headed straight to the locker rooms to change for the ring. I came out and walked over to Marcus, my trainer.
"Hey Mark." I said to announce my presence.
"Carmen, finally you're here!" Marcus said when he saw me.
"I'm not late...?" I said questioningly.
"No no no you're not, but I've been waiting for you to come all day."
"Why?"
"I need you to fill in for a fight tonight."
"What happened?"
"Guy dropped out."
"Hm..what's in it for me?"
"40% cut."
"65 and I'll do it."
"You’re always a hard one to bargain with."
I cocked an eyebrow in response.
He just shook his head and muttered something about women under his breath. “Deal.” He said admitting defeat.

I turned to head over to the ring, but was stopped by Mark's voice. "And Carm? Be careful. He has a reputation.." he said drifting off mysteriously. I nodded and turned towards the ring, turning to get ready for him.
Mark's first hit came swiftly, but I was expecting it. When he turned to hit my side, I swiped his legs out from beneath him. He fell to the ground with a loud thud. I furrowed my brows in concentration as he righted himself, getting ready for another swing.
"Doing good today Carm."
I nodded once in acknowledgement. Then I punched him in the jaw. I wasn't trying to, but I knocked him out. When he came to, I handed him the bottle of water. I leaned against the wall and watched him rub his sore jaw.
"I'll get you some ice?" I said letting my voice wander off into a question as I turned and headed to the front desk.
"Hey kid!" I said as the teenager working the front desk fucked around on his phone.
"huh, what!?" He said, his head jerking up. When he saw me he smirked and looked back down to his phone, but not before giving my chest a good look. I stomped up to him and jerked the phone out of his hands, and chucked it across the gym. I smirked when it crashed against the far wall.
"What the hell!" He yelled when I turned back to him.
"I said, hey kid."
"What do you want?"
"Ice."
"Why?"
"What's it to ya?"
“Nothing, never-mind." He said as he turned to finally get me the damn ice.
"It's for that guys jaw." I said, pointing to Mark. "I knocked him out."
He looked up at me in shock and his jaw dropped a bit. I grabbed my ice from off the counter where he dropped it. " Shut your mouth, or you'll catch flies."

When I got back to Mark, I chuckled softly to myself before I handed over his ice.
"What's so funny, love?"
"The front desk help may or may not have pissed himself, and his phone's in pieces by the wall."
He just smiled and shook his head in mild disbelief. “Well I think we've had enough practice for the day. I'll see you tonight at 7?”
"What fo-oh yeah, the fight. yeah I'll be here."
"Okay, cya later Carm."
"Bye Mark." I walked over to the locker room to grab my duffel before I left. As I walked out, I threw the boy I scared a smile and walked out. When I turned onto the sidewalk to go home, I ran into the chest of someone I didn't care to see at the moment, or ever.

"Hey babe. Long time no see, eh?"
Fuck, I thought to myself as I ran face to face with the guy I wish I could forget.

CJ'S POV
I walked out of the alley, smirking at the grunts I heard. My guys were finishing up the job I had only started. One of the kids who agreed to do a fight last Wednesday pussied out and now he was paying the price. What was his name? Neil? No, it was Niall.
I was approaching the gym where one of my buddies Jared worked. He wanted to meet up. Something about a change-up in the fight tonight. I had just turned the corner when a cute little blonde ran straight into me. Wait that wasn't any blonde....
"Hey babe. Long time no see, eh?" I said to my latest ex.
She looked up at me in shock, and dread. 'Hah, teach a bitch to try and run away from me won't it.' I thought to myself.
"What? Thought we'd never run into each other and you could hide from me forever. London's not the biggest place."
"No!" She snapped at me. "I just didn't expect to see you on this side of London." She explained exasperatedly.
I grabbed her arm, none too gently, and pulled her into the nearest alley. I pinned her up against the wall and looked down at her smirking. "And just when did you get so ballsy, little one?"

Carmen's POV
"I. AM. NOT. A. LITTLE ONE!!" I yelled at him and pushed back against him knocking him to the ground. But sly fucker that he is, he hooked his ankle around the back of my knee making my fall on top of him.
"I knew you couldn't stay away." He said and smirked up at me. Then he rolled over on top of me and pinned me to the ground and began kissing my neck.
"Stop! Damn CJ you don't change do you!?" I yelled at him. "Fucking prick." I muttered under my breath.
"What did you just call me, bitch?" He looked down at me.
"A fucking prick." I said, with a burst of confidence, but when he slapped me, all confidence was lost.
"Hey fucker! Lay your hands off her!"
I groaned when I recognized that voice....He was going to get his ass beat.
