Make It Stop ⇼ Luke Hemmings

Five.

“Where to?” Luke asked as we got closer to our houses.
“Can you take me home?” My hand was still intertwined with his, my head still on his shoulder. He sighed lightly.
“Are you sure that’s a good idea?” I shrugged.
“I don’t know. Dad shouldn’t be home until like eight. But I need to shower and change.” Luke frowned. “If I don’t go home—or at least leave a note—he’ll…” I paused. “He’ll be mad.” I decided to leave Luke out of the gory bits. If I didn’t give dad any indication of where I was going, he’d kill me.
“I just think it’s dangerous to stay there.” He shook his head as I lifted mine, our hands still connected. I cleared my throat.
“I’ll stay with Kaylee.” I gave in. “Do you mind waiting and giving me a ride?” He smiled.
“Sure.” As we pulled up to my house, I allowed Luke to wait in my room as I packed a small bag.

***Sunday night***

Kaylee was still torn up about her and Ashton fighting. Yesterday seemed like a week ago with the amount crying she was doing and the caretaking I was left in charge of. Ashton broke up with her, and she was so torn up about it, that I had Ella and Steph come over. Because of Kaylee’s state, neither of them had asked about my eye. Instead, we tried to cheer her up with ice cream and a funny movie.
“Do you think I’m dumb?” She asked, scooping ice cream into her third bowl. “For accusing him?” She clarified.
“No.” Steph said.
“You had a right to know.” Ella agreed.
“But if I hadn’t accused him, we’d be alright.” She sniffled.
“If you hadn’t have accused him, who knows what might have happened?” I imputed. “I mean, yeah I know it sucks, but to be honest, what would have happened if he opened it himself? Who knows how long he’s been getting those pictures.” The girls quietly agreed.

“Do you think he did it?” Kaylee asked. When none of us answered, she frowned. Ella shrugged, Steph looked away. “Romy?” She asked, as I had provided no tell.
“Do you think he did it?” I asked, shooting her question back at her.
“No.” Her voice cracked. “And it’s killing me because I know he never would have. I mean, he said he loves me. But… But I accused him anyways and now he hates me.” She began crying again. “Should I apologize?” She asked.
“You should call him.” Ella told her.
“You should talk to him.” Steph advised.
“Can you call him for me?” Kaylee asked me in tears. I nodded with a small smile.
“I’ll go call him.” I promised, excusing myself from the group.

I sat in Kaylee’s room, grabbing her phone with shaky hands, dialling Ashton’s number.
“Yello?” A voice answered, but it wasn’t Ash.
“Hello?” I replied. “Luke?” “Romy?” He asked right back. “What are you doing?” I smiled, it’s good to hear his voice, despite my prior intentions to call Ashton.
“I’m at Kaylee’s with the girls. She won’t stop crying, she wanted me to call Ashton for her.” Luke laughed a bit. “What are you doing?” I asked.
“I’m at Calum’s. He and Mikey are trying to calm down Ash. He’s a mess, too.” I laughed.
“Do you think they’ll get back together?” I asked, my voice in a hushed tone.
“I hope. I hate it when they’re upset.” I agreed with him.
“I heard Cal and Steph are having problems, too.” I brought up, unsure if it was true.
“Yeah, Cal said things have been off lately. He says they fight too much. It might be ending, soon.” He sighed, confirming my thoughts. “Ella and Mikey are still going strong, though.”
“Hmm.” I hummed. “We need to find a way to keep them together.” I referred to all of them.
“Ah, we’ll just lock them in a closet, tell ‘em to to work it out.” He teased, causing me to giggle.
“Sounds like a plan.” I joked. “Now give the phone to Ash, will you?” Luke laughed, agreeing to give the phone away as long as promised to call him back afterwards.

“Hello?” Ash spoke, sniffling.
“Hi, It’s Romy.” I spoke sweetly. “How are you?” He scoffed.
“Horrible. I didn’t cheat on her, Romy. You have to believe me. Tell her I didn’t do it.”
“I know you didn’t.” I promised. “She knows you didn’t, too. Look, Ashton all you have to do is apologize. I promise it’ll be okay. She’s sorry, too.” He was silent for a long while, as if he was debating his options.
“Can I talk to her?” He finally spoke.
“I’ll put her on the phone.” Jogging back downstairs, I handed the phone off. Within minutes, Kaylee was giggling and excusing herself as she ran up to her room. Ella, Steph, and I shared glances.

“Okay, I don’t know if I missed something…” Steph’s voice trailed off. “But what the fuck happened to your eye, babe?” Ella and I laughed a bit.
“Seriously, what happened?” Ella asked.
“I scared the shit out of Kaylee Friday night, and she got so scared she punched me.” I lied, knowing Kaylee would have my back. “She had her ring on. It cut me.” They seemed to be weary of my statement.
“How did you scare her that bad?” Steph laughed.
“She didn’t know I was coming over, and she came home, I popped out and scared her, she punched me.” The girls all laughed, I laughed with them, keeping up with my lie.

As our laughter died down, my phone began to ring.
“Can you toss that to me?” I asked, seeing as it was on the coffee table next to Steph. She obliged, glancing at it beforehand.
“Ooooh!” She cooed. “Luke’s calling!” She teased, laughing with Ella.
“Shut up!” I laughed.
“Well, answer it!” She obeyed. Rolling my eyes, I slid the lock bar.
“Hello?” I mumbled.
“Whatcha doing?” Luke asked as the girls snickered.
“Being teased.” I threw a pillow at them, earning a high pitched scream. “Hold on a second.” I laughed, getting up and walking to Kaylee’s porch in the backyard. “Sorry I went outside. What are you doing?” I stared up at the stars, smiling lightly.

“Oddly enough, I’m outside, too.” I laughed a bit, biting my lip. “So I was thinking.” He began. “You know what would be a good way to keep everyone together?” I scoffed.
“What?” I asked.
“Do you remember last year, when we all went on that camping trip?”
“What about it?”
“And when we came back, everyone was so relaxed and it was all back to normal.”
“Are you suggesting you should invite Madison Brown to a cabin again so you can shag her brains out?” I bit, remembering I was the only one who hated that trip. Luke sighed.
“No.” I tsked. “I’m saying we should all do that. Rent out a cabin and get away next weekend.” I rolled my eyes.
“I had a horrible time last year.” I frowned.
“Yeah, but-” I cut him off.
“But what?” I asked, “It won’t be any different. We’ll be surrounded by couples and most likely be forced to share a bed and be shipped the whole time.”
“I don’t object to sharing a bed with you.” I laughed a bit. “You know we could always… Just… Give them what they want.” He suggested.
“What do you mean?” I asked. Before he could answer, Kaylee opened the door.
“Romy! Come inside!” She ordered.
“I have to go.” I whispered. “I’ll talk to you later.” I didn’t allow him to answer, hanging up and obliging Kaylee’s request.

“We made up!” Kaylee exclaimed as I sat down.
“Really? That’s great!” I smiled.
“I know!” She spoke in a sing-song voice. “And do you know what he said?” She asked.
“Hmm?” Ella hummed.
“He said that Luke thought of a great idea! Ash, Cal, him, and Mikey are going to make arrangements to go away this weekend! We’re going to go camping like we did last year!” Steph and Ella immediately got excited, I forced a smile. “That means that Romy and Luke are going to share a bed.” She teased. Ella and Steph laughed.
“I don’t want to share a bed with Luke.” I lied, despite the fact we shared one two nights ago.

***Monday***

I woke up at six in the morning from a text from Luke.
‘Do you want to ditch with me?’ Against my better judgement, I told Luke to pick me up in an hour so I had time to get ready. I knew that if I went to school, I’d be tormented by Madison Brown for my black eye. I decided to hold off an extra day so the little swelling that was still there would go down and I could cover it up when I did go to school. The stitches will just have to be as obvious as they are and I’d suck it up. After showering and getting ready, I told Kaylee I wasn’t feeling well and opted to stay home, but she knew I was going to see Luke. He showed up about five minutes after she left, mumbling a hi to Luke, I got in his car, sitting in the middle rather than the passenger side, buckling my safety belt. Luke’s arm draped over the seat as he drove.
“Where are we going?” I asked, hoping he’d reach over and hold my hand again, or at least put his arm on my shoulder rather than the seat.
“The sky's the limit.” He joked, glancing at me and answering my prayers, putting his arm across my shoulders, pulling me closer; which, in result, caused me to lean into him. “We are going to Port Jackson to see the Sydney Harbour.”
“That’s nearly two hours away.” I raised an eyebrow, wondering why he’d want to go there of all places. I intertwined my hand with his dangling one, Luke smiled over at me, winking.

“Sure is.” He laughed a bit. “Thought it’d be nice. Do you want to grab some donuts before we head out?” I thought a bit.
“Sure.” I laughed. A few minutes later, we pulled into a gas station, and as Luke filled up, he handed me a twenty and told me to get a dozen donuts at the bakery next door. Doing so, I returned to him with the extra money, setting the box of donuts in the car and meeting him by the gas tower, giving him the change and leaning against the car as he was.
“Hey.” He smirked.
“Luke?” I asked, turning to him with my shoulder pressed against the car.
“Hmm?” He set a hand on my hip as he moved past me, removing the gas nozzle as he began to pay.
“Do you want to kiss me?” I asked. Luke laughed a bit, looking at me. I subconsciously bit my lip.
“When you bite your lip like that?” He asked rhetorically, “Hell yeah.” Giggling, I glanced at the floor. “Do you want me to kiss you?” He asked, getting his wallet out.
“I’ll be in the car.” I didn’t answer his question on purpose, earning a laugh as he put his debit card in, I climbed in the car, quickly fixing my hair and lip gloss before he got in. And when he did, I stared forward, taking a deep breath. “Yes.” I promised, although it had been a good few minutes. Luke laughed a bit, staring at me as he started his car up.

Before he switched the gear out of park, Luke cleared his throat. Almost immediately after I bit my lip, Luke’s hand found my chin, lightly pulling my bottom lip out of the grasp of my teeth, his eyes canvassed my lips, he leaned forward, encouraging me to as well, bringing his lips to mine and moving them against me. His tongue ran along my bottom lip, I allowed him entry, our tongues moving against one another, battling for dominance. My hand folded into his hair, the other lightly set on on his neck. Luke grabbed my hand, pulling it towards him, encouraging me to straddle his lap. As I did so, his hands positioned; one on the small of my back and the other on my hip. The hand on my hip slowly slid to my stomach, crawling up, but halting to a quick stop as soon as he reached my ribs due to a loud car horn, yanking us away from each other.
“Shit.” Luke cursed as I quickly climbed off him, I giggled as he geared his car to drive and quickly peeled out. Luke began to laugh as well while we tried to catch our breath. I couldn’t stop laughing as Luke drove, shooting me amused glances.
“We got caught!” I exclaimed, buckling my safety belt as Luke buckled his. He smiled his dimpled smile, the one that used to make me angry.
“Yeah, we did.” Luke laughed along, reaching over and grabbing my hand, running his thumb across it as we intertwined our fingers, he pulled my hand to his mouth, kissing it lightly.

Pulling out my phone, I scrolled through the messages I’ve received from Kaylee. They were all teasing me about ditching with Luke, but I didn’t really mind it. Opening snapchat, I took a secret picture of him and I, knowing fairly well he caught me, but didn’t say anything. After saving the picture, I sent it to Luke, the girls, and the boys. He laughed.
“Did you take a picture?” He asked.
“Maybe…” My voice trailed off, giggling. Luke hummed a laugh, shaking his head. “Luke?” I asked, setting my head on his shoulder.
“Yes?” He asked.
“How do I make it stop?”
“Make what stop?”
“M-My head.” I stuttered. “You’re making my head spin and I can’t think straight. I-I feel like a part of me is missing.” He frowned slightly, kissing my head before staring back at the road.
“I’ll let you know when I get you to stop making my head spin.” He smiled.

“Do you think we’d be good?” I sighed.
“Be good?” He asks, raising an eyebrow.
“I mean… Our friends, they say we’d be good. Do you think we’d be good?” I repeated.
“What do you mean?” He dryly laughed. “Like… Like relationship wise?” Shrugging, I slowly nodded, biting my lip.
“Yeah.” I rasped.
“I think we’d be great.” He laughed. “Marvellous. Wonderful. We’d be a beautiful couple.”
“I think so, too.” I confessed. His grip on my hand tightened as his thumb slowly moved across my skin. Silence struck us for a long while. It was a comfortable silence, one that I didn’t mind. However, I wish he would speak again.
“Do you want to-” He began, but stopped.
“Hmm?” I hummed, picking my head up to look at him.
“We could—I mean it’s only fair, since we were each others first kiss—that we be boyfriend and girlfriend now… To make up for… Lost time.” I couldn’t help but smile at his nervousness.
“It’s only fair.” I stated. “On one sidenote, though.” I spoke quietly. “We should… We should keep it a secret. Just in case-” He cut me off.
“In case we don’t make it.” He finished my sentence for me, glancing at me as he drove. “So our friends don’t-” I cut him off this time.
“Yeah.” I giggled.
“Yeah.” He agreed. I kissed his cheek, setting my head back on his shoulder and closing my eyes, opting to take a nap, as the scent he held was intoxicating me.
