Or So They Thought

They were friends before either of them moved away. They were best friends, and everybody at school saw them ‘getting together’ when they were older, in spite of the age gap. Sure, when he turned 16 she’d only be twelve, but still. That didn’t matter to anybody, least of all them. But just about everything changed when her family moved. They didn’t move across town, or even across the country. They moved from the beautiful English city of Bath to the insignificant American town of Hudson. She hated it, and hated them for doing it to her. But most of all, she just missed her home. But, eventually, she was forced into a new life, and, without forgiving, forgetting, or moving on, settled in. He, on the other hand, became depressed, and hated the world. He was only ten, she only six, but he’d started to develop a ‘little’ crush. When they lost touch, he became suicidal. They moved away, from the beauty of Bath back north to Redditch, where he’d originally been born. They didn’t hear of or from each other for twelve years.

He still loved her.
She, looking despairingly at pictures of her and her old friend, realized, from the look in her eyes then, that she’d loved him. Had never stopped.

She, finished with high school, leaving for college. She’d been accepted to a college in Bristol, majoring in teaching, minoring in music. She knew where her life was heading. Or so she thought.
He became part of a boy band, and a popular one, at that. So popular that they were sure everybody who was anybody, all over the world, had heard of them. He had perfect girls, and boys, throwing themselves at him. Just not the one he wanted, the girl of his dreams. Oh well. He’d get over her. His life was great, everything laid out for him on a perfect platter, not a want or need in the world. Or so he thought.
