The Photograph

Chapter 22

"Did Harry ever respond?" Chelsea asked.
I stared at the text in disbelief, after a minute I locked my lock screen and looked up at her Chelsea automatically knew something was wrong.
"What did he say?" She bit her lip, knowing the response wasn’t good.
"He said he doesn’t think it’s the best idea… Chels, I don’t know what to do. Harry obviously doesn’t think it’s best that we talk but I think it’s best Darcy has her dad." I sighed deeply and put my head in between my hands.
"He deserves to know, don’t stop talking to him." Chelsea encouraged.
I put my phone down and held my arms open for Darcy, Chelsea stood up and handed her over to me before leaving the room silently.
I held Darcy in my hands as she fussed a little bit but calmed down after a little while. I picked my phone up and I called Harry.
"Hello?" He said, his voice grogy as if he had just woken up too.
"Hey." I whispered.
"Did you see my text I sent you?" Harry asked.
"Yeah, I saw… I know you don’t think it’s best but I really need to see you. Nothing has to happen between us but I need to talk to you and I need to tell you in person." I pleaded.
"Okay fine.. Where do you want to meet?" He asked.
"Just text me some place we can meet and when your free." I demanded.
"Okay goodbye." Harry said before hanging up.
Not even a half an hour later I received a text from Harry with the address of a place and a time to meet him. He made it clear that we should meet up today due to other plans he has. I began to curl my hair in lose curls and changed into pink jean shorts with a floral top and some sandal that matched the colors on my top. I put Darcy in another one piece and some lightweight pants. When the time came close, I left to meet Harry.
He had picked a park near where is flat is as the spot to meet up in. I sat in the middle of the park on the bench with Darcy next to me in her baby seat snuggled up against the cold once again. I sat there and waited for 10 minutes until a figure that looked familiar, a figure I missed deeply. I stood up and welcomed Harry with a friendly hug, although he didn’t seem to happy to see me.
"You look so different." Harry said, taking a step back after the hug to look at me from head to toe.
"Yeah, people tend to change in about two years." I stated.
"Yeah, two whole years practically. Are you here to explain why you left?" He asked.
"You know me well." I tried to fake a smile the best I could, I could tell he was unhappy and I was a little disappointed he didn’t want to be here.
"Okay explain… Wait, first of all what’s with the baby?" Harry raised an eyebrow.
My heart skipped a beat and began racing at an unsteady beat. “I’ll explain that, let me talk.”
Harry sat down on the bench, on the opposite side from Darcy, his silence signaled that the stage was all mine to talk and explain myself. I stood infront of him and played with my hands, nervous as ever.
"You remember those 2 weeks I had in London right? Those 2 amazing weeks, before I left and stopped talking? I assume you remember all the things we did in those 2 weeks… Including sex? You told me that I didn’t have anything to worry about, what are the chances of me getting pregnant one time if we didn’t use protection. I went home after those 2 weeks in London and I had all the intentions of talking to you and moving to London for us to be together like we planned until I immediately got sick when I was home. I thought it was a stomach bug or whatever until it went on for weeks and weeks at a time, only in the morning. So, I went to the doctors and I found out I was pregnant." I said, my voice cracking I was doing my best to bite back the tears but it wasn’t working. "So in the past 2 years, I’ve went through an entire pregnancy, I moved to London and I’m raising our almost 7 month daughter with the help of Chelsea." I sniffled.
The look on Harry’s face was almost too scary to look at. Every ounce of color in his being disappeared, he was as pale as a ghost and looked as if he would get sick at any moment. I tried taking deep breaths to calm myself but there is no way someone can be calm in this type of situation. You have to be crazy to be calm about something as serious as a child.
"Th-That’s my d-daughter?" Harry finally spat out, pointing to the baby car seat.
I nodded, Harry scooted all the way over to Darcy’s seat and saw Darcy. Immediately a smile appeared on his face, it was cute to see him finally with her. I couldn’t help but smile myself although I felt like I had no right to. Harry would hate me after this.
"What did you name her?" He looked at me.
"I obeyed your wishes and I named her Darcy." I said a soft smile of comfort.
Harry smiled back at Darcy and reached into the seat, stroking her face gently. I watched as tears formed in his eyes. Eventually he pulled his eyes off of Darcy and returned them to me, now with even more tears.
"Emma why wouldn’t you tell me?" He asked, as his lips quivered on the verge of tears.
"I couldn’t ruin your success. One Direction is doing amazing, the last thing you really needed at the time she was born was a scandal and something every day that would remind you of that scandal. I couldn’t risk One Direction losing fans and the amazing success you’ve all had." I confessed.
"One Direction isn’t as important as my daughter. It’s high up there but my daughter would be the first thing on my priorities. You too, your her mom. One Direction will always have those fans that will be there no matter what and if we lose a few fans then that’s not the end of the world. I want my daughter to know me, I want to be her dad." Harry pleaded.
"I’m sorry I didn’t tell you, I also didn’t know how you would react. I figured you would blow up on me and not want a single thing to do with the either of us. I wasn’t ready for any rejection." I looked down at my toes, with that awkward feeling of stupidity.
"Let’s head over to my flat, it’s chilly out here and I don’t want her to get sick." Harry said standing up and taking the handle at the top of Darcy’s car seat.
"Okay." I agreed.
Harry carried Darcy a few blocks over while I walked close behind them all the way into Harry’s flat. Since I was here last time for those 2 weeks, he had repainted and bought new furniture.
"It looks nice in here." I complimented as we walked through the door.
"Thanks." Harry said enthusiastic as he set Darcy’s seat on the floor to take off his jacket.
We both removed our jackets and our shoes leaving them by the door before Harry lugged her into the living area where he set the seat on the coffee table.
"Can you take her out? I’m scared something will happen." Harry looked at me.
I laughed and caught him smile immediately afterwards. I pushed back the sun visor on the seat and the carrying handle, I unbuckled her and slid her out into my arms where she made a few fussy noises but nothing too much.
"Do you want to hold her?" I asked, looking at him.
He nodded quickly and I gently switched Darcy from my arms into Harry’s. He slowly and gently bounced around the room with her while she fell silent. Oh how different it was to see him with her.
"Hey Harry, where’s the rest room?" I asked after a minute or two of silence among us.
"Down that hall." Harry pointed down quickly trying not to remove a hand from Darcy’s little body.
He continued to bounce around the room, whispering things to her that were incoherent to me. I walked down the hall and opened up one door which led me to nothing but a little space filled with coats, closet. I shut it and opened another door where I found Harry’s bedroom. I examined the room with my eyes quickly and saw what looked like girls clothes in the corner, as if shoved there in a hurry. I waltzed in quickly and examined them more closely. Exactly what I thought. Skimpy shorts and a top I know had to be revealing. I snuck out quickly before anything became suspicious. I pushed open another door and was led to the bathroom. I made my trip in there short and walked out to see Harry on the couch with Darcy, him channel surfing the TV.
Part of my was extremely happy that he knows now and he’s happy about it, another part of me feels stupid for telling him. After finding those clothes in his room, it’s obvious he’s seeing another girl or he’s been with other girls. Which I don’t know I’m entirely comfortable having Darcy around. I haven’t had another man around Darcy other than my dad. I didn’t know how I would do things if I hadn’t told Harry about Darcy ever but now that he does know, I don’t ever want Darcy to be in a split home. I want her to have her mom and dad together, I don’t see how it would work though.
