Eplilogue
Six months later
Numb. She felt numb. Her black dress was warm and tight around her, but she couldn't feel it. She couldn't hear anything. Not even the raindrops on her aunt's shiny black sarcophagus, not even the familiar touch of her two best friends, Mike and Erin. Her eyes were empty, like someone had sucked the life out of her.
Her wings were broken.
"Cathy was a wonderful woman..." The speech continued, and she let the tears to mix with the rain on her face.
Cathy loved rain.
Angela remembered the day they went shopping in the town; she was seven. And it was summer.
Cathy had bought her lots of sweets and a cherry red popsicle, and Angela was happy. But then the rain started to fall down on the town. Angela frowned. She was sad. Mummy was waiting for her in their warm home, she waited for her princess to come back with a smile on her baby, angelic face. She waited for the familiar smell of sun in her chocolate curls.
"Cathy, it's raining. We don't have an umbrella," Angela pouted and pointed up at the sky with her tiny finger.
"We can run," Cathy whispered excitedly, "Take my hand."
And she did. When Cathy counted to three, both of them ran across the city under the sparkly rain, giggling and laughing together.
That was the day when Angela saw a rainbow. "May she rest in peace." The speech ended and everyone threw flowers on the sarcophagus. Angela stood still with a bucket of white lilies in her hands. She clutched them tightly against herself. They smelled like her aunt.
"Angela," Michael, Cathy's boyfriend spoke, "Let go."
And she did. She let go of the flowers and threw them to rest with her forever. Michael hugged her and promised her to take care of her. To send her to college. Because Cathy was the one he loved so much.
Angela immediately remembered the devil. Six months were behind her since the last time she had seen him, and she still didn't know was he alive. No one had talked about him. People lived normally, like nothing had happened.
"Let's go, Angela," Mike whispered and hugged her and Erin with Barbara slowly walking with them. He comforted his sister. She needed him.
Angela remembered the day Cathy died. It happened three weeks after her graduation. Cathy was so happy with her new car, and she promised to give Angela her last one. It was a beautiful, black Audi. Cathy was late. She was very nervous that morning, especially because she had to leave a heartbroken girl in her apartment.
She couldn't see through the fog. Cathy had an accident. Two other cars were involved, but Cathy was the one who had to die.
Wiping the tears off of her face, Angela looked up at the sky to see the sun shine through the rain. The rainbow was forming above the clouds.
"What are we gonna do now?" Erin gulped and looked down at her feet.
"We stay together," Angela mumbled, "As always."
She remembered the devil. Everything smelled on him. The summer wind. The smell of rain. The warm breeze of wind, just like how his touch used to feel on her.
Angela was sure she'd never forget him. She only hoped he was alright, happy, healthy and alive.
Before she met him, she had a mission. She wanted to build her life over again, to learn how to live the way she used to live before.
But she found out that all this time her mission wasn't finding a better life.
It was trying to light up the darkness in him.
