Cheers to the Teenage Years
Chapter One
Being the new girl is always tough but moving halfway across the world was even harder. I grew up in a fairly normal home with my parents and older brother. My father however had gotten a job in England and i was horrified. I didn’t want to leave my home but I had no choice. I was nervous because it was the middle of my junior year and I was switching schools. My parents said the normal thing, that I was going to be fine and the I would make tons of friends. Honestly i was more excited to be done with high school and attend university in France.
Getting off of the airplane and accepting my new life was hard but after arriving in London I just wanted to explore the famous city. We immediately hailed a cab and the entire drive my eyes were glued to the window as I watched the new scenery fly by. Through the droplets of rain on the window i was able to see a couple walking hand in hand down the sidewalk huddling under a black umbrella. A gust of wind sent the umbrella rolling down the isolate sidewalk. I expected the people to scream and run after it but they just laughed in the rain. The driver turned a corner and the couple was removed from my view but not my mind.

“Alright kids, go pick your rooms.” My dad called while turning around to help my mother with the luggage. I opened the taxi door and sprinted through the rain with my brother, Finn raced to catch up with me. I clambered up the wooden stair that lead to the upstairs until i cam to the room that I had picked out from looking at the house online. Standing before me it looked desolate like a skeleton left in the desert. It had a walk in closet and a private bathroom with a shower and bath. It wasn’t either of those luxuries that I admired most, it was the window seat that truly fascinated me. On the opposite wall from the main door there is a simple window with a seat. if I opened it I could easily access the fake porch. It was an easy method of escape just in case I actually made friends.
Finn stomped into my room with an angry scowl on his face, “Why can’t you have the girly, pink room?” His room which was adjacent to mine was a simple square room with a window and a mirrored closet. The walls were painted a shade of light fuchsia, not a very masculine color at all. My dad also joined a=us and noticed my brother’s frustration.
“Son, you can have the attic. Nobody wants to hear your rock and roll anyways.” He gave Finn a pat on the back and lead him to another set of stairs that I presumed lead to the attic. I shook my head and returned back to my own room where I sat and stared out the window and day dreamed about how my life was going to be. Totally cheesy? Yeah I know.

“And that’s the last box.” One of the cute mover boys set a box labeled ‘Avalynn’s: Don’t touch. That means you Finn.’ next to the door. His adorable accent made him ten times more attractive. “Thanks!” I smiled at him and bent down to take a shirt from a box. I hung it neatly on a hanger and turned back around. The mover box was still in my room, I suppose he was staring but he tried to cover it up.
“Are there anymore boxes?” I asked while eyeing him. A little card on his chest read ‘Hello! My name is Gavin.’ He smirked at me and showed off his guns.
“Nothing that these babies can’t handle.” He was in good shape, it must be from lifting heavy furniture all day. His plain white tee-shirt fit his body very well. Earlier he lifted it up to wipe sweat from his forehead, he had a nice set of abs.
“Yeah, I’m not so sure.” I joked before passing him and walking downstairs. I joined my mother in the living room where she was instructing where exactly she wanted the couch to be placed. Not wanting to get yelled at for being in the way I went to the front door and I opened it releasing the refreshing smell of wet grass and the chill of the cool air. I loved the aftermath of a storm, the world always felt so clean and tranquil.
“LUCY GIVE IT HERE!!” A male voice called from the yard next to mine. I whipped my head to the left and I saw a boy who looked to be about my age standing on a porch with only one sock on. The other was in the process of being chewed by an adorable golden retriever puppy. The boy sighed, he was obviously debating about running around in his wet front yard. The dog gave him no choice no matter how many times he called her name. He eventually bolted for the puppy who clumsily avoided being caught. I laughed to myself and hoped that he wouldn’t see me staring.
“Avalynn, can you get that last box from the car?” My mother yelled, might I add VERY loudly. I rolled my eyes at how obnoxious she was but i went to retrieve the box. The boy whipped his head up when my name was mentioned, he wasn’t paying attention and he tripped over a tree root which sent him falling face first onto the muddy ground. I giggled but returned to the task at hand, his puppy however came to jump on him. I got the box, it was much heavier than I had expected, it was also piled high with junk. I could barely see so I just walked straight and hoped that I didn’t trip or something.
It turns out that I didn’t have the luck of the Irish because I ended tripping and all of the contents of the box spilled onto the sidewalk. Fantastic, I thought to myself before hoisting myself off of the ground.
“Hey, I saw you fall. Are you alright?” I looked up to see the boy from next door hovering over me. I was surprised at how hot he was, his brown hair was messy but in a good way, it complemented is distinctive green eyes. I could tell that he was also very muscular.
“Uh, yeah. Just a little embarrassed.” I smiled and allowed him to help me off the ground. I hoped that the wetness of the concrete hadn’t seeped through my leggings, talk about how to make a mortifying moment even worse.
“No biggie, you witnessed me fall flat on my face and I’m over here with just one sock on.” He laughed making me feel at ease. “Speaking of the little devil.” He scooped up the puppy who had joined us with the sock hanging limply in her mouth. He snatched it and examined the holes from sharp puppy teeth.
“Well, I’m Harry and this spawn of Satan is Lucy.” He held up the puppy who tried to lick his face at an arms length away.
“I’m Avalynn, its nice to meet you.” I smiled and pat Lucy on the head. “You too, I think you’re quite adorable.” I cooed to the dog.
“Why thank you.” Harry cheekily smiled but his face quickly turned serious. “I’m only kidding, don’t take that personally or anything.” His eyes widened as if he was scared that he offended me. I just laughed and shook my head.
“You’re fine, I swear.” I reassured him, he didn’t need to know that i found him quite adorable. We chatted for a few minutes about basic topics. We were both going to be attending the same school which was exciting, at least I had one friend. We were interrupted by the loud honking of a car horn. We both turned to the sound of the noise, it was a car full of teenage boys who were hollering at Harry. he apologized and said a brisk goodbye before returning Lucy to his house and jumping in the car.
“What did I tell you, puppies are a chick magnet!” One of the boys shouted to which Harry quickly quieted him. I rolled my eyes and bent down to pick up the box that I was supposed to bring to my mother.
