4 Years Later

Codi's POV (now 25)

Today is the day I've been waiting for. It's finally Maggie and Michael's wedding. Michael has just finished his second year with the San Francisco 49ers as a defensive end. He was drafted straight out of college, and the night he was drafted was the night he proposed to Maggie. It was the most beautiful thing you could ever see. And it was live on national television so we could watch it whenever we wanted as it was on youtube.

They waited so long to get married so they could settle into their new life and Maggie could open up her dance studio. In fact her studio was just a few months away from celebrating it's first grand opening anniversary.

I was still teaching, but at a different high school. I attended USC and got my Masters in Ancient Civilizations like I had always wanted. I was currently looking into P.h. D. programs. After Liam and I broke up, I couldn't stay at my school, I needed a fresh start, too many people knew about him and I. I'm still in LA but had to get my own apartment, Jai had gotten married a year back to a wonderful woman who had a son, and they were expecting a daughter in two months, not enough room for Codi anymore!

I was okay. It took me a long, long time to get over Liam. And to be honest I wasn't over him, but I had masked my feelings really well. He hadn't had a relationship since me. At least that I knew of, he had been linked to several women but nothing ever official came out of it. I never spoke with him. Karen and my mom are still the best of friends, they were planning on attending Maggie's wedding but couldn't at the last minute. But Karen and Geoff came to Minneapolis last year for a reunion, it was wonderful to see them. Karen had told me she was still mad about how everything played out between us but I tried to stay out of the conversation. I couldn't tell her I still wanted him, I'm sure he didn't want me.

I dated another teacher for a few months but it just didn't feel right, I had dates here and there, but I was extremely focused on school. Everything with Liam came so easy, all the other relationships I tried to peruse after seemed like work. The band was still together, but him, Niall, and Harry were the single ones, Zayn and Louis were married. They didn't go on tour as much as they used to, they had slowed down quite a bit and the guys were perusing their own interests as well. I missed them all but I was happy for them, and I'm sure they've long since forgotten about me.

After we broke up Liam had a bit of a wild streak and ended up getting in trouble for drinking and driving, Niall had tried to get us back together several times but at the time I just couldn't get past the hurt that Liam had caused me and he never seemed to be interested. And now, well, its been too long.

I hear the door close behind me and I turn. “Ah Maggie, you look fantastic.” I say as she really does, she's wearing a beautiful lace gown and a smile that just won't quit.

“You think?” She asks as she spins around laughing. “Can you believe it? I'm getting married today!” She squeals.

“Oh I love my sister! Thank you for letting me be your Maid of Honor.” I say as I trap her for a hug.

“Who else would I pick? You're my best friend and my only sister, your stuck with me for life!” our moment is interrupted by a knock at the door. Its our mom.

“Girls, it's time.” She says as all of us stand up and grab our flowers to make our way in line. When its my turn to walk down the isle with Michael's younger brother/best man, Caleb, I can't help but notice Michael at the end with a larger then life smile on his face in anticipation for his new wife. I feel a stab of jealousy wondering if I'll ever feel that kind of joy again.

After the beautiful wedding ceremony, more pictures, and the drive to the reception hall I was already beat. We ate dinner, made our speeches, cut the cake, and they have shared all their special dances. I had been dancing for a while but my feet had started to hurt and I was just tired! Being in anyone's wedding is exhausting in itself, I couldn't imagine actually getting married. Not that I wanted to. Liam was the only person I could see myself marrying and now that that was beyond over, I just couldn't picture it.

I was sitting at the head table enjoying the view of everyone dancing to the electric slide. The rest of the wedding party had decided to give up on their invitations for me to join them. When it turned to a slow song my body once again admitted defeat as I knew I had no one to dance with.

Mom and dad were dancing together, Michael and Maggie, Uncle Jai and Kourtney, even Mimi and Papi, Aunt Luna and Enzo had come up for today.

Pity party for one. Right here.

I felt a tap on my shoulder and looked to my left. I see a hand and hear a voice.

“May I have this dance?” I know that voice.

I quickly jerk my body and see Liam with his hand stretched out asking for mine. Dressed in a perfect black suit. He looked amazing.

I look back and see Maggie and Michael looking at me while they're dancing on the floor, Maggie gives me a wink and motions for me to accept.

“Um, I'd love to.” Is all I can say as I put my hand in his and he leads me to the dance floor.

@Louis girl

I'm glad you liked it! I probably could have kept going but I didn't want a story that just dragged on and on!

@Emmy2320
I knew you probably wouldn't like the ending, but there is hope in the last section! I'm not exactly opposed to a sequel, I just don't have any idea where I would go with it as of right now. :) I'm working on a new one right now and I'll let everyone know on here when I post it!

I really enjoyed this story even if I am a little sad that they didn't get together! You are an amazing writer and I love that this wasn't a typical story. A sequel would be wonderful but I understand if you don't want to write one! I look forward to reading more of your stories in the future! :)
