Setting Up 1D

High School

"Good morning sweetie, it's time to wake up." I heard a voice say, constantly shaking my arm.

"No," I mumbled softly as I tried to go back to sleep.

"C'mon Sonny, it's time to get up. You have school today." said the same voice as before, Dad's voice, continuing to shake me.

"No," I mumbled again, hearing a slight chuckle as I grabbed a pillow and put it on the side of my head so I wouldn't hear anything more.

"C'mon, get up, I'll help you of bed." said Dad, removing the sheets from my bed as he grabbed both my arms, making me sit up straight, well sort of.

"I don't want to get up!" I wined, rubbing my eyes to separate the dry mascara I had on.

"I know you don't, but today you have school and you have to get ready." he said as I saw him lay out a black and white uniform on my bed.

"What's that?"

"It's the uniform you have to wear to school, now go get in the shower and dress quickly." he said, shutting the door to my room.

The first day of school...

This is how I predict how my first day's going to be like.

First, the popular kids are going to be giving me a hard time, saying nonsense to me, like always. Then, the teacher's are going to be my second problem, choosing me to answer questions since they always choose the kid in the back of the class who never talks. Next, we have the place where you're judged with who you sit next to. Which is probably going to be me next to the nerds or next to the tech geeks, or even in the bathroom, which only happens in desperate measures. Then, we have gym class or study hall, which is obvious to know that I'm going to be stuck running laps over and over again while the star athletes practice with the coach. And finally, we have the extra classes. Cooking, drama, sports, cheerleading, math groups, and gardening.

I'll probably end up somewhere unnoticeable, like the library reading or like at the bleachers looking at the athletes practice since there's always that cute jock playing football here and there.

After I took a shower, I dried my hair, got dressed into my clothes, and went downstairs for breakfast. I smelt pancakes coming from the kitchen, hearing the sizzling sound of the pancakes being made.

"Do you need help?" I asked Dad, seeing him juggle the pancakes and Drew's lunch.

"No, I'm fine. Just go get yourself prepped for school. Your backpack is in your room, right?" he asked as I nodded my head, heading right back up to my bedroom. I checked my bag, seeing that I had my pencils, and notebooks, and my phone, because without it my life would be dull! I picked up my bag and headed out my room, checking myself in the mirror to fix my few makeup mistakes.

I headed back down to see Drew eating his breakfast, trying to stuff everything inside his mouth.

"Your food's ready Sonny," said Dad, handing me over a plate as I sat myself at the table.

"So, are you excited!" said Dad happily as I gave him a fake smile while nodding my head, trying to act as if I was ecstatic about going, but in reality, horrified about even stepping foot into that school.

"That's good! Your gonna enjoy it!" he said encouragingly while rubbing my back, trying to sooth my nerves.

How can he think that I'm going to enjoy going there? I mean he knows that I'm not going to make new friend's there, he knows how hard it is for kids like me who get bullied who try to build their self of steam back to the top again, and he knows that I hate his choice of school!

Why is he doing this to me?!?!

I finished eating my breakfast, quickly washing my teeth as I came back downstairs ready to go to living hell. We hoped onto the car, hearing music on the radio. The only thing that might calm me down from screaming at my dad.

"Next up, we have a little old tune back from 2013. We all loved them, we all sang to their songs, now to all those fans still out there, here's Best Song Ever by One Direction on BBC Radio 1." said the radio announcer as the tune to the song began.

"Let's change the radio," suggested Dad, trying to look for another music station.

"Hey, I was listening to that!" I spatted at him once he changed it. The song was getting good!

"But who's car is this? Who bought it? I did and I control the radio." he said in a serious tone.

"But c'mon, your not listening to it, I am." I said, changing the radio back to my station.

"But I don't like this song,"

"Why not? It's not bad,"

"Well, it sort of is, I mean...it-it's just bad okay!" Dad said angrily, trying to change the station again.

"No it isn't! You let me hear Kanye West and Little Wayne and their music is way worse than this." I said to him, knowing that Little Wayne is defiantly worse compared to this song.

"Fine," Dad said, pissed off at me again. The song didn't seem so bad, I mean it isn't anything like Kanye West or Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. The tune seemed kinda catchy, like something that might get stuck in your head for a few weeks, the musical background had an edgy type of vibe to it, like Rock, and the different voices combined together sounded really unique.

I really don't understand why he didn't like it?

"Who are they?" I asked Dad curiously, wanting to see if they made anymore songs like this.

"None of your business," said Dad rudely, sounding annoyed.

"C'mon, tell me! You were alive in 2013, you must know who they are!" I begged him, wanting to know already!

"Like I said, they're none of your business! You don't even want to know about them, they're already old and they've gone their separate ways, like all bands do." he said, sounding angry and sad at the same time.

"Well okay," I responded, staying quiet for the rest of the ride to school.

When we arrived to the main entrance of the school, it looked like a creepy, like a haunted mansion type of thing. It was big, and scary, and teenagers kept walking through the main door, pissed off. Their parents must've forced them to go too I bet.

"Okay, we're here," said Dad, dropping me off to school.

"You're seriously letting me go here?"

"It's not a bad school Sonny! It's a good school and I swear that you're going to like it," he said, giving me a quick kiss on the head.

"Now go, your going to be late." Dad said, getting off the car.

"Alright, bye..." I said waving goodbye at Dad as my pest of a brother stuck his middle finger at me. How nice of him.

Okay, don't be scared, it's just high school. Sugar coded to be hell here, but I have to keep Mum's promise, she's the only reason why I didn't rebel going.

I walked past the doors, and to my surprise, I saw the halls crowded with people. Teens running back and forth, trying to look for their lockers, their friends, and their pride and dignity. Which are three things I defiantly don't have, yet? I looked around, seeing girls with their uniform totally redesigned, some guys with ties dressed formal and preppy, and other guys with their hair all up, wearing leather jackets or varsity jackets. While I'm dressed regularly, with a simple pink bow around my waste so it'd look a bit nicer.

"Cute bow, freak!" I heard a girl say as I continued to walk away from the popular kids. Just as I suspected, the populars are beginning to give me a hard time.

"Did little bow beep loose her sheep?" I heard another girl say as I tried to ignore their comments and look for my locker.

237

I looked for my locker and when I finally found it, I knew that my life couldn't get any better.

"Um, excuse me but that's my locker..." I said nervously to the light brunette jock who was leaning against it.

"This one?" he asked me as I nodded my head at him, getting the feeling that people were looking at me.

"Oh, well you can have it," he said, still laying against my locker.

"Okay, so...uh can you like...step away from my locker?" I said innocently as he shook his head.

"If you do us a favor," said the same brunette as the other jocks came closer to me.

"What is it?" I said, beginning to shake a bit. He bit his lower lip, continuing to chew on his gum as the other jocks whispered things to him.

"Well, my friend Jerome here has a locker that's far away from us, and we were guessing that maybe you can do us the favor of trading locker's with him." he offered, patting my locker.

"What's the catch?" I asked him timidly, hoping that I won't make a bad mistake at trading lockers.

"No catch, just that if you do trade him lockers then we'll treat you...let's say fair, friendly." he said as the other guys nodding their heads.

"Well, uh sure, I guess you can-"

"Great! Thanks love for everything!" he said, giving me a quick hug as the other jocks patted my back proudly.

"So, where is my new locker?" I asked him curiously, hoping that it was a good one!

"Oh, well I'll show you the way!" said a brunette jock who, I'm guessing, is Jerome.

"Oh, I'm Jerome by the way," he said, shaking me hand politely. He didn't seem too interested in talking to me, but he was willing to do it anyway.

"And your name is?" Jerome questioned me. Maybe I might've zoned out just a bit.

"Oh, uh it's Sonny..." I said shyly, a smile growing on his face.

"Sonny? That's a nice name, well at least it's nicer than my sister's names." he said, making me laugh a bit.

"Thanks for trading lockers with me by the way," he said as I nodded my head at him.

"Do you ever talk? I mean I feel like I have to force you just to say a word." Jerome said as I shrugged.

"I don't know? I'm just shy, I guess." I responded to him silently, continuing to walk towards his direction to my new locker.

"Well, we're finally here!" he said happily, pointing to the locker next to the girls bathroom.

"It was nice meeting you, now I got to go, see you later!" he said, rushing off towards his friends. Seems like he was relieved to leave me.

Locker 469

I opened the locker, and began to but my unnecessary stuff in there, since I know that I don't need my 50 pencils and few of my notebooks. The locker seemed to have enough space to fit almost anything in there, even my dignity. Once I finished, I stayed beside my locker for a while, looking at the people who were rushing to almost everywhere they went. Everybody had their group that they belonged with. Like the goth sat one corner of the hall, hidden so that nobody would notice them, and the popular's all over the place in the halls, chatting up with everybody about the latest gossip. The nerds huddled up in another corner, talking about the circumference of a cylinder, and the hipsters separated from each other, texting one another from different locations.

I went walking over towards first period, hoping that Math wouldn't be so hard. I walked inside the classroom, and saw an old hag, writing on the board about so much nonsense I didn't even know about.

This is going to be a fun day!

I looked around the room and spotted an empty seat at the back corner of the classroom, where most of the unnoticeable people sit. I sat down and I saw the same jock that negotiated about the locker thing coming into the classroom with some of his other cocky friends.

"Hi Curly," he said to a girl with a head full of curls who was sitting in front of me, trying to ignore him as she continued to read a book of hers.

"I'm Greg, but you can call me whenever you'd like," he said, sitting right beside her.

"Go away," she responded, turning her back to him.

"C'mon Curly, I'm just trying to make things good between you and me." said, who I'm guessing is named Greg, twirling her hair with his finger.

"Nothing will be 'Good' between the both of us, now leave me alone," she said, annoyed by him.

"Well aren't you cute when your grumpy, Curly."

"MY NAME IS NOT CURLY! It's Mackenzie, and if this is your way of approaching to women, you better keep your hands off of me because I'm not going to chase after a jerk." she said angrily, pushing him off the seat beside her, making the class laugh. He looked at her surprised, not knowing that she would do that, I mean I didn't even expect that either!

"Boys," she mumbled, leaning against her seat again.

"I know right," I said, laying my head against the desk, just to pass by time.

As more people came into the classroom, the louder it got and it made nap time impossible! Mr. Hot Head or Greg kept chatting up with his friends while some of the snooty girls sat in the back, whispering and giggling to each other.

"Bookworm, what's the deal with you reading nonstop?" said a brunette girl with pink lipstick on and short hair. Mackenzie looked back at the girls who giggled, rolling her eyes at them.

"Shirley Temple, can you dance for us? My friends and I would love to see your signature curls bounce." said a red head with a messy bun as her little friends laughed.

"I'm not Shirley Temple," said Mackenzie, already annoyed by all the comments she's been given.

"Alright children, sit down in your seats. I'm Ms. Joel, your first period teacher." said the old hag, who had no life or happiness in her what so ever.

"No wonder there's no Mr. in the picture," said one of the snooty girls.

"Excuse me miss?" said the teacher, giving the girls an angry stare.

"Would you like to say that to the whole class, miss?" asked the teacher as the blonde one of the group rolled her eyes of her.

"No ma'am!" she said, irritated by the teacher.

"Suit yourself," answered back the old hag, continuing to right more nonsense on the board.

"Hey, uh Ms. Snooze hell, why don't you give us a break, it's the first day." said the one and only Greg. Already wanting to ruin our lives by making things harder in this class for the rest of us.

"Do you need a new nickname? How about Ms. Dick head? Now that sounds a lot better for you." he said, purposely trying to piss her off.

"I do not like being called those names Mr. Whatever your name is!" she said angrily, grabbing a folder she had from her desk.

"Tomlinson, as in the son of Louis Tomlinson from the Drama department?" asked the teacher as Greg nodded his head at her.

"I had your sister last year," she said, disgustedly.

"Oh I know, weren't we great to have?"

"No! You Tomlinson's are irrelevant! Even your father is childish and ridiculous!" she spat at him, making me feel a bit worried for Greg now.

"Well, now you get to spend a whole day with three Tomlinson's!" cheered Greg as the teacher looked at him, as if she was about to kill him with a pencil and a ruler.

"How do your parents deal with you kids?"

"Well it's simple, my parents told me to treat others the way they treat me. So, since my parents treat me with respect, I treat them with respect, and since your treating me like bullshit, I'll be treating you like bullshit as well." said Greg, making everybody in the class burst out laughing! He's got a sass! The teacher walked over towards Greg, angrier than ever, seeing that she was about to paddle Greg with a ruler, until somebody opened the door.

"Oh, uh hi," said a shy girl, her long, messy brown hair all over her face.

"Do you need help?" asked the teacher, hiding the ruler behind her back.

"Um, is this Math?" asked the girl, her Irish accent thick as she fixed her hair.

"Yes, and your late! Take a seat," said the teacher as the girl quickly ran over towards her seat, seeming frightened by the teacher.

"Now Mr. Tomlinson, if you keep this attitude up with me, I will be making a call to your parents and send you skipping down to the principals office. Is that what you'd like?" said the hag as Greg sank into his seat, embarrassed by her.

"Alright, now let's get back to the lesson." she said, beginning to write on the board, again!

I felt paper going into my direction, touching my hair to see a few of them in there. I turned around and saw a few of the girls mouthing to me, "Get out of the way" for some odd reason. So, I did as I was told, and I saw them throwing the balls to Mackenzie, the paper getting stuck to her hair. I saw her shrug as she dug her face into her book, trying not to pay any attention.

She must be having a real tough day.

I didn't want to become part of this situation, so I just stayed away from Mackenzie so the girls would be able to throw them at her. I didn't want to get into the girls bad side, so the only thing I would have to do is stay back from Mackenzie and the girls.

After a long class with the little old witch, class was finally over! I thought I was going to die in there! Everybody went rushing out of the class, happy that it was over. I mean an hour and a half with her seemed to last for eternity!

I went walking over towards second period, English, and I saw Mackenzie, trying to hide from people, just like me. She seemed to be having a way worse day than me, I mean she was a target for pete sake! I knew it was wrong to let the girls do that to her, but I don't want to get in trouble either.

"Get out of my way, geek!" I heard a girl say, her groupie shoving me across the halls, making me fall to the ground.

Oh how I'm loving high school!

I picked up everything that I dropped on the floor, people stepping on me since they think that I wouldn't mind.

I'm invisible to them.

"Let me help you," I heard somebody say, looking up to see a girl with light pink pastel hair and glasses.

"I'm Rosalinda, but you can call me Rose." she said, helping me pick up my school supplies and phone from the ground.

"And you are?" she asked me as we both got up from the ground.

"Oh, uh I'm Sonny." I said shyly as she smiled, her piercings sinking inside her cheek.

"Well, it's very nice to meet you Sonny. As you can see, I'm also an outcast too." Rose said, fixing her black, spiky crown.

"Your a Freshmen, right?" she asked me as I nodded my head at her.

"I'm a Senior, would you like a tour around the school?" she asked me as I shook my head at her.

"Okay, well then, what's your next class?"

"English," I responded, examining Rose. She seemed very gothic, with her piercings and her crown. She had two piercings on each of her cheek, one on her upper lip, and an ear full of them, which were like six? She had a black skirt on, complementing her light pink pastel hair and her polka dot long sleeve blouse. And to top that off she had black combat spiky boots, making her gothic style really stand out of the crowd.

"Don't be afraid of me. It's okay, just because I'm different doesn't really mean I'm dangerous," she said, making me laugh a bit.

"Well, I have to go, class starts in 5 minuets and it's on the other side of school, but I'll see you later, kay?" she said as I nodded my head at her, seeing her run through the crowd. The only girl that actually had the guts to talk to me is the outcast of the school. I must really be the most depressed, uncool kid in school.

Once I got close to Language Arts, I was actually hoping that it wouldn't be anything like Math, and to my surprise, it was the total opposite of that! The classroom was filled with dreamcatchers, indie posters, and peace signs, defiantly making everybody "aww" in amazement.

"Hello kids," said the teacher, as I suspected, wearing indie clothing like loose pants and a flowing shirt with a headband across her forehead.

"Now before you guys sit and make yourself comfortable, I made some seating arrangements so everybody please stand up." she said as the class stood against the walls. That's when I noticed that the Irish girl that came late in class chatting with some of the guys, making them laugh a bit.

"Alright, now uh Jade? Um...you sit in the back?" said the teacher as I sighed, looking to see who this "Jade" girl was.

"Kay kay!" said a familiar voice, seeing the same girl skip over towards the back.

The Irish girl.

"Okay, and Sonia? Uh...you in front of Jade." the teacher said, as I heard giggling coming from some people, waiting to see Sonia.

"Miss, I prefer to be called Sonny not Sonia." I said as she nodded her head at me, pointing to my desk.

"Hey, I've seen you before!" said the spunky brunette who was behind me.

"Yeah, I know, we're in the same class, remember?" I said to Jade as she nodded her head at me.

"I know, you were that chick who let that girl with curly hair get bullied." she said, her tone of voice softening.

"I didn't let her get bullied, I just knew that if I did something I would be in trouble." I said to her, her words making me feel bad about myself.

"Whatever you say," she sighed, getting her pencil and scribbling something at the bottom of her desk. What is she doing?

"Alright class, now I'm Ms. Percy, I'm your English teacher, and-" the teacher said as some of the boys in the class whistled at her. Such animals.

"Well, that's very nice and inappropriate of you boys to do, but I have a boyfriend so that means I'm off the market for a while." said Ms. Percy as some of the guys sighed.

"Okay, so we are going to do a little exercise to get to know each other, alright since it's the first day." she said as she came around with a little can full of papers.

"Take one out of the can," she said, taking out a paper that read: Social life.

That's great! I got something I don't have, which also includes many of the things I also don't have. Maybe I should write everything I don't have in a piece of paper, just to see how much I can fill up.

"Alright class, so the paper that you got out of the can is the thing you have to say about yourself, like for example, art. Are you a good artist? Does anybody in your family do art? Possibly anything that has to deal about yourself and I'll be asking the questions. Sounds good? Let's start!" said the teacher as I began to think if something that had to deal with social life.

"Hey Sonia, can I trade you?" asked Jade as I rolled my eyes at her.

"It's Sonny, and why? What did you get?" I asked her, seeing her shrug.

"Family..." she said, looking at me nervously.

"Family? That's like the easiest thing to talk about! Why do you want to trade?" I said to her, seeing her sink inside her seat.

"Never mind," she said, looking at the piece of paper nervously.

She got the easiest topic to talk about and she wants to trade? That's odd? I should've traded her, dammit!

Okay, so what is something that has to deal with social life? Uh, I'm not very social, I spend my time at home, online almost every day! What else? Think, think!

"Time's up! Sorry if time was short but I only have an hour and a half so I have to get things going." said the teacher, calling up a girl named Alicia. We're starting from the alphabet I see, well I'm actually glad that my name starts with an "S".

After a few people came up, it was already Jade's turn to go up. She's going to defiantly ace it because all you have to talk about is family, easy!

"Okay, so what's your name darling?" was the first question the teacher asked.

"Jade," she said, crossing her arms as she leaned against Ms. Percy's desk.

"Okay Jade, so your topic is about?"

"Family..."

"Family! Alright, so do you have any brothers or sisters?"

"I have a brother named Bobby, he's in 6th grade." said Jade, biting her nails.

"Good, um what is something you like about your family?"

"Their goofiness and love," she said, laughing a bit.

"Okay, so who do you admire out of your family?"

"My dad, my brother, my four Uncles Ashton, Michael, Luke, and Callum, my dog, my grandparents and my Uncle Greg and Aunt Denise, my cousin Theo, Rhea, my mum..." she said, looking to the ground, seeming depressed.

"Are you okay sweetie?" asked the teacher as Jade nodded her head, clearing a few tears from her cheeks as she began to breathe heavily. What's going on with her?

"Y-yeah, it's just...c-can I go make a phone call?" she asked as the teacher nodded her head, giving her a hall pass. She quickly ran out the door, and well...was never seen the rest of the period.

Whatever happened to her?
