just another day.
"this isn't some pet shop"
"yea, i know. you wan't to be loved, it's okay baby, someone will love you." i say to the adorable fluffy puppy in front of me. don't judge, i talk to animals. people say that animals are stupid but i see a lot in them. more than most people take the time to look for. thats why i want to be a vetrinarian. to bad it's to expensive. right now im living in a townhouse with my best friend, mackenzie, and my little sister, alea. it's all i can pay for. times are tough right now. atleast i have them.
luckily mackenzie has the same passion as i do: helping animals. we both work at happy paws pet rescue center. my name is scarlette by the way. today, just like everyday, i woke my 15 year old sister up, got ready for work with kenzie, and drove to work with her as soon as alea got on her bus. normal day after normal day.
the doorbells jingled, telling me someone walked in. i leave the puppy and walk through the door leading to behind the front desk. a couple who are well dressed, VERY well dressed walk up to me.
"hi, my name is scarlette and welcome to happy paws." "hi. im liam and this is dani." liam says "we are looking to adopt a puppy." why do people always come here looking for puppies. i know that today we happen to have 3 puppies, but people never think of the dogs. they obviously just woke up one morning and decided to get a dog. no research, no thinking about it. and they were obviously rich. what were they doing here when they could get some designer dog for a couple million dollars.
"this isn't some pet shop." i say," why don't you try pet corner over on fifth street."
"well yea," he said in a voice thats nicer than i expected."but we want to rescue a puppy. the puppies at pet corner with get homes almost too fast. we want a puppy thats seemingly unwanted." wow i was taken aback by his speach. and the sincerity in his voice. i immediatly apoligize and lead them to a puppy that has been waiting for a home for two weeks. we are a non-kill shelter, and he was one of our long term pups. poor thing, he was so sweet and cute, i would have taken him myself if i could properly take care of him.
"he is perfect!" the exclaim at the same time.
"we would love to add him to our family. could you please hold him untill thursday?" the man, liam, says "i'd like to show him to my mates." i didn't quite understand why he couldn't show his mates the puppy at his home but i agreed. his girlfried seemed as confused as i was the puppy would get a home, and thats what mattered to me.
