Chapter 30

*Harry’s POV*
I rode with Chloe in the back of the squad car, the sirens blaring. The car was moving faster than I knew was possible, or maybe it was going slowly, I can’t really remember. Chloe sat with a look of utter pain on her face, her hand clutching her arm where the bullet had pierced through her skin. Through all of the excitement, I hadn’t realized that my broken wrist hurt more than it had when I had actually broken it. I guess I forgot it was broken when I started a fight with Blair’s dad. I hadn’t really said much after the police separated me from Blair’s father. I told them where we had been when we were kidnapped and where they had planned to take us but other than that, my words had stopped forming.
We arrived at the emergency entrance of the hospital and I was told Paul and the others were in the bus being escorted to the hospital and they would arrive in a little while. A nurse brought a wheelchair out for Chloe to sit in in case she got lightheaded and couldn’t walk. They took us to a room near the surgery wing and had Chloe change into a hospital gown. The nurse told us Chloe would need surgery to remove the bullet and they would do x rays when they finished taking it out to make sure parts of it weren’t left behind by accident.
They took me to the x ray room and did a few more scans of my wrist and told me not to get into anymore fights as long as I want my wrist to heal. I went back to the room Chloe was in and found her laying in the hospital bed with a bandage wrapped around her arm to stop the bleeding.
She hadn’t said anything for I can’t remember how long, but I could tell she knows I blame myself for getting her into this mess. If only I hadn’t left the room that morning.
“How are you feeling?” I asked as I entered.
She turned her head to look at me and tried to force a smile. “Alright, I guess. Aside from the bullet lodged in my arm, I mean. We’re all still alive.”
I sat next to her on the edge of the bed and we talked for a while. I started telling her stories in an attempt to keep her mind off of her arm. It seemed to work.
The boys and Tess and Aleanbh and the blonde girl from the airport entered the room a while later and joined in our conversation.
The nurse soon came and got Chloe to take her to surgery and everyone tried to comfort me and tell me it wasn’t my fault. If I had realized that Blair was insane before I asked her out, none of this would have happened. We would all be back at the hotel, safe and sound, getting ready for our concert.
Oh. Our concert.
“We need to get ready,” I said, jumping up from the bed and looking at the clock. We had about 2 hours to get ready and get to the arena.
“For what?” Zayn asked, standing with me.
At least I’m not the only one who forgot.
“The concert! We have to be there in less than 2 hours.”
Looks of surprise and guilt came across everyone’s faces as they remembered our gig scheduled for tonight. We raced out of the room and found Paul talking to one of the nurses in the hall, probably about Chloe.
“Paul, we have to go,” Louis told him. “We have to get ready for the concert.”
“You’re not going to the concert, are you crazy? Chloe’s in surgery!” Paul looked at us in shock.
“No, we’re going,” I protested. “Chloe will understand, I know she will. We can’t let our fans down because of some psycho.”
Paul looked at us in thought for a moment and shrugged. “Alright, let’s go.”
We quickly followed Paul out of the hospital and onto the bus. We changed our clothes to our concert attire on the way to the venue and sat in silence the whole ride there. Because we went so far out of our way, we had to drive for nearly an hour to get there. When we finally arrived, we were ushered into our room, despite obviously already being dressed.
Paul sat with us until it was time for us to practice before we went on stage. He walked us to the room in which we rehearsed and watched as we tried to get the choreography down. I sang as quietly as I could so everyone could hear me. I knew my facial expressions were not happy but extremely depressed. I often fell behind on the choreography and we finally gave up on trying to get it down. It’s not like we ever stick to it anyway.
Before we knew it, microphones were pushed into our hands and we were forced out onto the stage. The crowd erupted in applause and screams when they saw us emerge from backstage. We waved halfheartedly and introduced ourselves and began with the show. We played a few songs from our Up All Night album and took a break to answer questions submitted to us from the fans.
We danced and sang and did whatever crazy things they asked us to do until we had to continue with our concert. We sand the rest of the songs on our schedule and headed backstage once again, the crowd applauding one last time. Paul met us at the door and we boarded the bus once again. Usually we hang around after concerts but this time there’s no way I’m going to stay away from my girl longer than I have to.
The bus drove quickly back to the hospital as we all sat and waited patiently and quietly to arrive. When we pulled into the parking lot, I hopped off the bus and tried to keep my cool as I walked inside. I asked the boys and their girlfriends to stay in the waiting room with Paul for a little bit so I could talk to Chloe alone and make sure everything had gone alright.
I passed the front desk with the same lady sitting behind it and walked myself to Chloe’s room. I saw she was laying in bed, a new bandage on her arm. I pushed the door open and immediately my stomach tensed up. The atmosphere in the room was not a good one and the look on Chloe’s face told me there was big news coming up.
“Harry,” she said when she saw me.
“Are you alright? Did they get the bullet out?” I sat down next to her on her bed and pushed her hair out of her face.
She nodded. “The bullet’s out,” she answered with a sigh. “But there’s something else inside of me.”
Her answer had me happy and confused.
“What do you mean? Was there something on the bullet? Did they poison you?” I knew I shouldn’t be bombarding her with so many questions but I needed answers. I needed to know what they had done to Chloe.
She shook her head. “Everything’s fine,” she answered. “The bullet was just a bullet and it’s gone.”
“Then what’s wrong?”
She grabbed my hand and laced her fingers in between mine.
“When they did the x rays after my surgery,” she said, “they found something. Something interesting and scary.”
My heart rate drastically increased with the tone of her voice. The look on her face told me she was worried and afraid to tell me but gave no hints as to what it could be.
“Harry,” she said with a shaky voice. “I’m pregnant.”

Notes

Oh my goodness. I had another surprise party for a friend this weekend which went amazingly. She wasn't very surprised but she was happy to have had the party. When I got home today I wrote the rest of this chapter and I hope you like it!
