Unexpected
Chapter 21
*Harry’s POV*
I woke up early the next morning, carefully climbed over Chloe and met everyone in the small kitchen.
“Ready to plan a party?” Zayn asked, clapping his hands together.
“Shhh,” Louis hissed, putting his finger up to his mouth.
“Well we need to get busy, her birthday is tomorrow,” Niall said.
“We’re supposed to be arriving at our hotel later on today so we can just ask the hotel manager if we can use their rec room for the party,” Tess suggested.
“That’s a good idea. But she’s going to be bored if it’s only us,” I pointed out.
“That wouldn’t be much of a party,” Liam agreed.
“I can call a few people,” Aleanbh offered.
“Make sure they’re people Chloe knows,” Louis told her.
“Oh, don’t worry. If they’re famous, Chloe knows all about them,” Tess commented. At least finding people that she knows who can show up won’t be much of an issue.
“Has anyone gotten her anything?” I asked. I still hadn’t gotten the chance to go out and buy something for her so I would have to do that when we got to the hotel.
“My birthday present to her was making her enter that contest. We wouldn’t be here right now if it weren’t for me,” Tess said a little sarcastically. I had to laugh at her comment.
“Anyone else?” I asked, hoping I wasn’t the only one who still had to go out.
Everyone except Aleanbh and Louis raised their hands.
“What did you guys get her?” When did they even have time to get her something?
“I’ve really taken a liking to her,” Aleanbh said. “I’m going to give her one of my favorite necklaces. It’s a little silver bow with fake diamonds on it. I’ve had it for a few years and it’s always brought me good luck. I was even wearing it when I met Liam,” she said.
“That’s thoughtful,” I responded. “What about you, Louis?”
“I’m going to be taking her to a Cher Lloyd concert,” he said proudly, pulling two tickets out of his pocket.
“No way!” Tess exclaimed. There were murmurs of surprise going around the table as Louis showed off his present.
“When did you get those?” I asked.
“Remember when we did that interview with her? She gave them to me for me and El, but since we aren’t together anymore, I figured I’d take Chloe.” A wide grin took over Louis’ face as he waved the tickets around. “Top that, Harry!”
I sighed and thought about what I was supposed to get Chloe. I had absolutely no idea so far and now I had to get her something better than tickets to a concert.
“How did you know she likes Cher Lloyd?” Tess asked.
“Everyone likes Cher, duh,” Louis replied, shoving the tickets back in his pocket.
Tess shrugged and turned to me. “What did you get her?”
I sighed. “I haven’t had a chance to go shopping yet,” I admitted.
“Don’t worry mate, we can go shopping together,” Liam offered.
“I’ll come with,” Niall said.
“Me, too,” Zayn added.
At least now I could get some opinions on what I’m getting her. “Will you come, too, Tess?” I knew Tess wasn’t going to get her anything but she’s her best friend and maybe she’ll know what to get her.
“Sure.”
“What’s everyone doing up so early?” We all stopped talking at once and looked at the doorway separating the kitchen from the bunks. Chloe was standing in the doorway, leaning on the frame to keep her balance. “It’s like 5:30.”
“Oh, we, uh, wanted to see the sun rise,” Niall said. It was a pretty bad cover up but hopefully tired Chloe would roll with it and go back to bed. She eyed us all suspiciously and shrugged, turning to go back to bed. Good.
“What kind of food does she like?” I whispered to Tess.
“Anything she can fit in her mouth,” she answered. “She really likes tacos and pizza, though. Typical teenager.”
Pizza and tacos wouldn’t be too hard to get. There are pizza places everywhere and we could easily make tacos before it was time for the party.
“IS there anyone or anything she doesn’t like?” Louis asked.
Tess thought for a moment and nodded slowly. “Taylor Swift.”
I felt all eyes turn toward me as the words left her mouth. I shivered at the thought of my fling with Taylor and how much bad publicity we both got. Although Taylor as received a lot more than I have, I still hated to think about it. “Good to know,” I answered.
We talked a little more about what to get Chloe and who to invite to her party and how we would distract her until it was time to start. Thankfully, she never came back out to the kitchen so she had no idea what was being planned.
*Lunch time*
We all sat around the table and ate the sandwiched Niall had made us for lunch. We all went back to bed when we finished discussing Chloe’s party and were extremely hungry when we woke up again. This time Chloe was sitting at the table with us, clueless about what had happened earlier that morning. We tried to ask her about it but she doesn’t seem to remember waking up and wandering out to the kitchen.
By now, we were almost at our hotel. The bus hadn’t stopped since we were in the accident so we were making good time getting there.
“How is everyone today?” Paul walked into the room and pulled up a chair.
“Hungry,” Niall said.
“Tired,” Louis told him.
He smiled and shook his head. “Well we’ll be at the hotel in about 2 hours so sit tight and don’t kill each other.”
He got up and walked back to the front of the bus to talk to the driver and left us alone to eat our lunch.
“Thanks for the sandwiches, Niall,” Tess said.
“No problem,” he answered through a big bite of his sandwich.
I looked at Chloe sitting next to me and saw her sandwich almost gone already.
“Wow, someone’s really hungry, huh?”
She looked at me and blushed. “Yeah, I am.”
“She gets that way sometimes,” Tess said from across the table. “One time we had a sleepover and we made 2 pizzas. She ate one and a half of them.”
Chloe laughed at the memory and nodded. “Sometimes my appetite gets the best of me,” she admitted.
We all finished our sandwiches and went to the media room to watch a movie for the rest of the bus ride. We all settled down together and watched the Avengers. Toward the middle o f the movie I looked at everyone. Liam had his arm protectively around Aleanbh, Tess had fallen asleep on Zayn’s shoulder, Niall and Louis were intently watching the movie. Chloe’s fingers were entwined with mine as she watched the movie. I smiled at all of us and realized how thankful I was for the new family I have. I wouldn’t change a thing.
