Unexpected

Chapter 17

*Niall’s POV*
The rest of the day I spent packing and getting ready to leave for our next place on the tour. Instead of leaving tonight, everyone decided we could leave first thing in the morning and still get there on time. After I finished packing, I had to go down to the arena and get some last minute prep in since we wouldn’t get very much time for practice on the bus.
The whole time we were practicing our dance moves (not very well choreographed, might I add) and singing, my mind kept wandering to her. Sammie.
I still felt bad for spilling my soda all over her but, in a way, I’m glad I’d done it. If I hadn’t, I wouldn’t have met her and I wouldn’t be having dinner with her tonight.
I checked my watch. 6:30. I had to get ready and call her.
“I’m going to have to cut this short, guys, I’ll see you in the morning,” I told everyone. I ran out of the stadium before anyone could object to me leaving and hurried back to the hotel. I threw on a white button down shirt and some black pants and ran a comb through my hair. By now it was 7.
I picked up my phone and found the napkin with her phone number on it. After I dialed the number, I counted the number of rings before she picked up. 3.
“Hello?” I smiled to myself as I heard her voice, soft and sweet.
“Sammie? This is Niall,” I responded, feeling my stomach knot up.
“Hi,” she answered.
“Are you ready? I can get my driver to come pick you up,” I told her.
“Yeah, I’m at the Marriott hotel on 37th.”
I told her I’d be there to pick her up soon and hung up the phone. I looked at myself once more and made sure everything was perfect. I don’t know what it was, but this girl had really grown on me. I only met her this morning but I knew I wanted to see more of her.
I made my way down to the lobby and hopped in the limo waiting for me in front of the hotel. I told the driver where to go to pick up Sammie and sat back watching the people and cars pass by. My stomach did flips the whole way to her hotel. When the limo finally pulled up under the canopy I rushed out and into the lobby. I asked the lady behind the counter for Sammie’s room and waited impatiently for the elevator.
I stepped out as soon as the doors opened and walked down the hallway, searching the doors for her number. When I finally found it I gathered my bearings and took a deep breath. I knocked three times on the door and stepped back. I heard someone move around inside and the door opened a few seconds later.
My breath hitched in my throat when I saw her. She was wearing a fitting navy blue strapless dress and black pumps. Her hair was curled and lay perfectly around her face and shoulders.
“Are you ready to go?” I managed to ask her.
She nodded and closed her door behind her. It took all of my strength not to stare at her the entire way to the restaurant. She was surprised when I led her into the limo and showed her everything inside. She watched out the window as we drove along and asked me a few questions about my home life.
We finally pulled up in front of the classy restaurant and I helped Sammie out of the limo.
“Here we are,” I told her.
“Thank you,” she said as we watched the driver pull away.
I led her inside to a table with flowers in the middle. There were table cloths on every table in the restaurant and velvety curtains framing the windows. The waiters and waitresses all dressed in neat black and white uniforms.
We ordered our food and chatted for a while.
“So,” I began. “Where are you from?”
“Oh, I’m from Ireland,” she answered, taking a drink of water left by our waiter.
“Me, too,” I told her.
“I know.”
I was confused for a second before I realized that information was well known.
“What made you want to sing?” she asked.
“I’ve always been interested in singing; I’ve done it since I was little. When I tried out for the X Factor I wasn’t sure I’d make it.”
“I’m glad you tried out,” she told me with a smile.
“Thank you. I’m glad I met you this morning.” I mentally slapped myself for diving in like that but was relieved when I saw a smile form on her lips.
“Me, too.”
*Sammie’s POV*
I sat across the table from him still in awe. I couldn’t believe I was on a date with Niall Horan from One Direction. Wait… was this a date? He brought me to a beautiful, fancy restaurant; of course it’s a date.
I listened to him tell me about himself, most of the things I already knew but I kept my mouth shut for the sake of conversation. I told him about my life and family as we ate.
Throughout the meal, he began growing uneasy. He tried to hide it but it was very clear something was wrong.
“Are you okay?” I asked finally.
He shook his head. “No, I’m sorry. It’s just, the boys and I are leaving for our next tour spot first thing in the morning and I just met you. I wish I could see more of you.”
My heart fell when he told me he was leaving. Was I not going to see him again? I had only just met him, he can’t leave so soon.
“I’m sorry, I wish I could stay a while longer,” he apologized again.
“Don’t worry about it,” I assured him. “You’ve got an important job, don’t be sorry.”
He sighed and looked down at his empty plate. “I’m really sorry.”
I looked out the window and didn’t say anything.
*Niall’s POV*
What am I going to do? I really like her. I want to see her more but we’re leaving tomorrow. I can’t just ask her to come with us, we already have Chloe and Tess. Besides, what would the boys think? They didn’t even know I got her phone number.
“Are you okay?” she asked me again.
I nodded this time. I might as well make it seem like I’m alright. I sent her a fake smile and pulled out my wallet to pay the bill.
“Please, keep in touch,” I asked her.
She nodded and genuinely smiled. “It’s not every day one of the most popular guys in the world is attracted to you.”
I smiled at her sense of humor and walked her outside and waited for the driver to come pick us up to take us back to our hotels.
“I had a nice time tonight,” she said after a while.
“Me, too.” I really did. It was one of the best dates I’d ever been on.
“Thank you,” she added.
I smiled and took her hand in mine. I felt a shiver run down my spine with the warmth of her hand.
The driver pulled up in front of her hotel and I walked her up to her room.
“Thank you again for a really nice night,” she said. She gave me a kiss on the cheek and I watched as she entered her room and closed the door. I stood there for a moment, wondering what to do after I got back to my room.
I slowly walked back down to the limo and watched the cars and people pass by as I was driven back to our hotel. I thanked the driver and got out, still thinking of the great night that just ended.
When I got back up to my floor, Louis, Zayn, and Harry were playing football in the hallway so I joined them for a little while before calling it a night. Surprisingly, no one asked where I’d been or why I was dressed up, but I didn’t care.
I just fell asleep with thoughts of the beautiful girl still fresh in my mind.

Notes

Sorry for the sorta late update today guys, I was sorta busy. This chapter is all about Niall and Sammie and even though it seems like they're done, they're not! There will be more Sammie later on so keep an eye out :) Niall. Got. His. Braces. Off. Today. He's so grown up! Anyway, I'm still looking for ideas for the story aaaand just wondering, who has been to/is going to one of the boys' concerts? I'm going in July and I've never been more excited!
