Unexpected
Chapter 15
After the concert, we all went out for dinner at a pizza place around the corner.
“That was a great prank guys,” Tess said after we ordered.
“Thank you, it was all my idea,” Niall said, raising his hand. Louis glared at him.
“You did a great performance tonight,” I told the boys, hoping Louis would forget about being angry at Niall.
“Thank you,” Liam said.
“Whose idea was it to take Chloe on stage?” Aleanbh asked.
Now it was Louis’ turn to raise his hand. “I thought you’d like it,” he said to me. “And it got the crowd pumped.”
“I can honestly say I’ve never had anyone do anything like that for me before,” I told him.
“So you liked it?” Harry asked.
I nodded and he kissed my cheek. Our pizzas came and there was hardly any talking; everyone was starving.
We finished every little bit of the pizzas in less than 10 minutes and headed back to the hotel for the night.
“Hey,” Zayn said as he, Harry, Tess, and me entered our room. “How about the four of us go out for breakfast tomorrow?”
I looked at Tess. “That sounds great,” she said.
We all got ready for bed and fell asleep in no time, Tess curled up to Zayn, and me in Harry’s arms.
*The next morning*
I was expecting to be woken up by Harry’s sweet voice again. Instead, I was pulled out of my sleep by my face hitting the floor. I sat up and looked around, only to see Tess laying on my bed smiling at me.
“What the hell, Tess?” I screamed.
“Payback for when you woke me up,” she answered with a smirk.
I rolled my eyes and pulled myself up off the floor. I pulled on some shorts and a gray tank top and headed to the bathroom. I pulled my hair back into a pony tail and swiped some makeup across my eyes.
When I entered the other room again, Tess was dressed and talking to Harry and Zayn.
“Ready to go?” Harry asked.
I nodded and grabbed my purse. “Where are we going?” I asked.
“To a little café down the street,” Zayn answered.
We chatted a little in the elevator and on the way to the restaurant about when we were leaving for the tour.
We arrived at the restaurant and sat at a small table outside. We ordered our food and continued our conversation.
“So, we’re leaving in two days. We have one more concert tonight and tomorrow we’ll just get ready to leave. Aleanbh tells me your birthday is coming up, is that so?” Zayn asked me.
I nodded and took a drink of the tea I’d ordered a few minutes before. “It’s on Thursday.”
Zayn nodded in understanding as our food arrived. We dug in and talked some more.
“How do you like staying with us?” Harry asked after a while.
“I love it,” I answered.
“It’s wonderful,” Tess added.
“I have something to say,” Zayn spoke up.
We all turned to him and saw the nervousness outlining his face.
“Um,” he cleared his throat, “Since you guys first got here, I’ve had the most fun I’ve ever had. I’ve never gotten to spoil a girl by taking her shopping. I’ve never been able to fall asleep fantasizing about taking her on a date. I’ve never been able to wake up in the same bed as the most beautiful girl in the world.” He paused and looked at Tess, his eyes scared. “I’m sorry I don’t have any jewelry or flowers to give you, but, Tess Marino, will you go out with me?”
I saw Tess grow pink in the cheeks and smile. She nodded her head quickly and hugged Zayn. “Yes!”
I looked at Harry and smiled.
“Did you know about this?” I whispered.
He shook his head. “Not at all.”
We watched Zayn and Tess hug for a few moments longer before we finished our meals and headed back to the hotel.
*Zayn’s POV*
I sat at the table and listened to Harry talk to the girls about how they like staying with us and I couldn’t help myself. I had to say something.
“I have something to say.” There was no turning back now. I just hoped she would say yes. I told her my feelings and felt myself growing more and more embarrassed with every word that came out of my mouth. “I’m sorry I don’t have any jewelry or flowers to give you, but, Tess Marino, will you go out with me?”
My heart skipped a few beats and my stomach knotted itself up as I waited to hear her answer. When she nodded her head I couldn’t believe it. She threw her arms around me and said “Yes!”
I hugged her back and smiled to myself, thankful that I’d spoken up when I did. As we went back to the hotel after we were finished with breakfast, I kept her hand in mine the whole time. On the way up in the elevator, I stole glances at her beautiful face.
Wow, I thought, I can’t believe she said yes. She’s the most beautiful girl I’ve ever met and now she’s my girlfriend.
Once Tess caught me staring at her and I had to play it off as though I was looking at the wall. I don’t think she bought it.
*Tess’ POV*
I was extremely happy when Zayn asked me to go out with him. I was stunned, but happy. I said yes right away and hugged him tighter than I’d ever hugged anyone before.
We quickly finished our breakfast and, on the way back to the hotel, Zayn grabbed my hand. I sent him a smile and tried to keep myself under control. In the elevator at the hotel, I caught him staring at me, but he tried to convince me he was looking at the wall. I didn’t buy it.
We entered our room to see Liam, Aleanbh, Louis, and Niall sitting on the beds waiting for us.
“Where have you guys been?” Niall asked.
“We went out for breakfast,” Harry answered, going into the bathroom and closing the door behind him. Chloe flopped down on the bed next to

“The restaurant still needs food for the other customers,” Zayn told him.
I saw Aleanbh’s eyes fall to mine and Zayn’s hands. Her eyebrows shot up and she looked at me questioningly. I nodded my head and a huge smile grew on her face. She nudged Liam with her elbow and motioned toward us. His eyes found our hands and he flashed me a congratulatory smile.
Louis and Niall quickly noticed the change in atmosphere.
“What’s going on?” Louis asked.
Zayn and I sat down on the couch and let go of each others’ hands.
“I asked Tess to go out with me this morning,” Zayn announced.
Louis and Niall’s faces changed to happy and waiting for more information.
“She said yes,” Zayn informed them with a smile.
Louis and Niall cheered and gave us both hugs.
“Sorry to cut this short but we really should get to the arena and get ourselves ready for tonight,” Liam apologized.
The four boys stood and left, banging on the bathroom door to tell Harry to meet them at the arena. We watched them leave and I sighed.
“Tess!” Aleanbh yelled, catching my attention.
“What?” I looked at her expecting her to be angry about something but only saw a smile on her face.
“You’re going out with Zayn!” She exclaimed.
I nodded and felt a huge smile spread across my face. “I know.”
I saw Chloe send me a smile and pull out her phone. She texted someone and looked back up.
“Do you guys want to go to a movie tomorrow?” She asked. “Harry just texted me and asked if we were okay to go see a movie tomorrow.”
I nodded and Aleanbh said it was alright with her.
We sat and talked for a few hours before we headed off to the arena to help the boys get ready for tonight.
