Unexpected
Chapter 10
The driver of the limo drove us around the city for a while, stopping at some different shops all over the place. At one point, when the boys had decided we needed to really start shopping, we pulled up to a large clothing store.
We all got out of the limo and entered the huge building. Tess and I were speechless – it was even bigger than the store we went to when we were shopping to meet the boys.
“This place is enormous!” Tess exclaimed.
“Take your time,” Harry told us, smiling.
I looked around at all of the clothes. There were racks filled with dresses, tops, bikinis, skirts, and pants on the floor and lining the walls. There was a large shoe area towards the back of the store and a jewelry section near the front.
Tess sprinted to the first rack of clothes and immediately began looking through the tops. I felt as though I couldn’t move; I had absolutely no idea where to start.
“Come on, love, let’s go find some clothes for you to try on,” Harry urged me.
“I wish I could live here,” I told him. He responded with a laugh and pulled me to the middle of the store where he piled a bunch of clothes into my arms. I didn’t even have a chance to look at what he was throwing at me, he was moving so quickly.
“Go try these on,” he finally told me. There were so many clothes in front of me that I couldn’t see him and he had to lead me to the dressing rooms. I was relieved when I finally entered one and dropped the heap of clothes onto the bench.
“When you’ve got something on, come out and show us,” Niall said from outside the door. “Tess is in the room next to you.”
I looked through the clothes and pulled on a light blue dress with white polka dots. Looking down at myself, I wasn’t sure about it, but when I looked in the mirror, I saw that it fit me perfectly.
I opened the dressing room door and stepped out.
“Whoa,” Louis said with a smile.
“That dress looks really good on you, Chloe,” Zayn said.
The other boys nodded in agreement and sent me back into the dressing room to try on some more clothes. I pulled the dress off and tossed in on top of the pile of clothes on the bench. Sorting through the clothes, I found a pale pink button up blouse and some dark jean shorts. Pulling them on, I found they fit perfectly, just like the dress.
I stepped out of the dressing room and turned around like a model in front of the boys.
They were silent for a moment before smiles spread across their faces.
“You look amazing,” Harry commented.
I felt myself blush a little as words of agreement were uttered by the rest of the boys. Tess came out of her dressing room and gave me a thumbs-up.
I smiled and went back into my dressing room.
“Put on a fancy dress,” Liam called from outside.
I pulled off the top and shorts and tossed them aside. Shuffling through the pile, I found an emerald green dress that looks as if it went down to my knees. I slid it on over my head and watched as the material fell right into place. Just as I’d predicted, it stopped right above my knees.
There were small spaghetti straps holding the top up and a sparkly, silver strip of material right under the bust. The way the bottom flared out really complimented my figure. I smiled at myself in the mirror and stepped out of the room once again.
Tess was sat with the boys on the couch outside the dressing room with her regular clothes on. When they saw me, all conversation died down and shocked expressions formed on everyone’s faces.
“What?” I asked suddenly very self conscious.
“You look amazing,” Niall muttered.
“That dress if perfect on you,” Harry added.
“It’s perfect,” Zayn commented.
All the boys agreed that it looked great on me. I felt my smile grow much wider as more compliments were thrown at me.
“Wow, Harry, you really know how to shop for a girl,” Louis teased.
“I think we’re done here,” Liam said. “We’re getting everything you both picked out. Obviously it all looks great on both of you.”
I went back into my dressing room and pulled the dress off, setting in on top of the pile of clothes. When I was changed back into my own outfit, Harry grabbed the clothes out of the room and followed Liam and Tess over to the jewelry.
Tess and I looked through some necklaces and earrings, astonished at how beautiful some of them are.
“Look at this one,” I said, waving Tess over. Before me was a beautiful necklace. It was a diamond heart on a gold chain.
“Wow,” Tess commented. “That’s beautiful.”
I looked at the price tag and decided not to say anything to the boys. There’s no way I would let them buy me something this expensive.
We looked at a few more pieces of jewelry before deciding accessories could wait. When we told the boys, Louis shot off toward the shoes, leaving us to follow.
“You can’t have new clothes without new shoes!” Louis exclaimed, already looking through the shelves.
We told him our shoe size and sat while he insisted on picking out the shoes to go with our new clothes. When he was finally satisfied, Tess and I both had between 10 and 20 pairs of shoes to try on. Amazingly enough, Louis had great taste in shoes.
We both tried on what he’d picked out and all of them fit perfectly. There were sandals, flats, and heels scattered everywhere.
“How do you like them?” Louis asked.
“They’re all so cute,” Tess said, pulling off a pair of jet black pumps.
“Then we’ll get them all!” Niall yelled.
“You guys don’t really have to do this,” I said, feeling bad for taking advantage of their money.
“Don’t worry, Chloe, we want to,” Zayn assured us.
“If we didn’t, we wouldn’t be here in the first place,” Liam added.
“Let’s check out,” Louis said, grabbing shoe boxes and heading toward the registers.
“Where’s Harry?” Tess asked, grabbing her purse and following the boys.
I shrugged. Where was he?
We found him at the check-out, arms full of bags.
“Would you like us to take some of those?” I offered.
He shook his head. “No way, I’ve got em,” he said, lifting one of his arms as if the bags were weights.
The rest of the boys finished paying for everything and followed us out to the limo, Louis and Zayn carrying shoe boxes.
“Thank you guys so much,” Tess said as we climbed into the limo.
“It was our pleasure,” Liam said, sitting between Tess and Louis.
When everyone was seated in the limo, we pulled away from the best store I’ve ever been to and headed out to a restaurant for lunch.
After driving for a few minutes, the driver pulled up to a pizzeria and let us out. Harry told him he could go take a break and he would call him when we were ready to be picked up.
We all walked into the pizza place and piled into a corner booth. From left to right, we sat Liam, Zayn, Tess, Niall, Louis, me, and Harry. After we placed our orders, the waitress brought us our drinks and told us it would take about 20 minutes for our pizza to come.
During those 20 minutes, we talked about what life on the road is really like. The boys told us that they get tired a lot and don’t get to leave the bus very often when they’re going from place to place. They usually sleep in their bunks and, since there were only 6 bunks, Tess and I would have to share one.
The whole time everyone was talking, I didn’t notice Harry next to me reaching into his pocket. Tess caught my attention across the table and motioned toward Harry. I looked over at him and he was staring at me with a smile on his lips and a shimmer in his eyes.
Before I could say anything, Harry pulled a rectangular box out of his jacket. I looked at the rest of the table and saw them all staring silently at us just as surprised and confused as I was.
I looked back at Harry who was now opening the box. Inside laying perfectly was the necklace I saw at the jewelry counter in the store. Before I could ask him how he knew I’d fallen in love with it, he spoke.
“Chloe Douglas, will you be my girlfriend?”
