Self Empowered
Unbelievable
Calla's pov:
"My name is Calla Winnington." It was the least I could tell him considering what he had done for me. "If it wasn't for you I might not be here right now..." I spoke matter of factually.
"I'd do it again in a heart beat, love." He spoke with such determination and conviction, I was transfixed by his few simple but powerful words.
"I wish you had been there all those other times, like the time mom took a baseball bat to my head..." I mumbled quietly to myself, sleepily gazing out the window.
"WHAT?! WHAT KIND OF MOTHER DOES THAT TO HER CHILD?!" He shouted startling me. I placed my hands over my ears and clamped them down squeezing my eyes shut. After a short time I felt long, gental fingers prying them away, once he had done so he held onto them.
"I deserved it, though." I spoke softly still looking at our hands.
"How in the world does anyone deserve that?" He wondered, shaking his head.
" I asked for food when I knew it wasn't permitted." I said with a shrug.
"That's absurd! Everyone has the right to food, how can anyone stay alive without it?!" He asked in total disbelief.
"Harry.....she didn't want me to live." I said slowly letting that sink in, a million emotions flew across his face in mere seconds. Anger, hate, sadness, pity, feat, bewilderment, and pure rage. Before he could utter a word I took his face in my hands and tried to calm him down. It felt odd to touch anyone like this and I wasn't sure if I was even soothing him considering this was my first time attemping it. But I continued never the less.
"It's okay, that's why I left Harry. I don't want to dump all this on you, so just take a breath and calm down. It'll be okay. " I smiled softly.
"I'm supposed to be the one comforting you." He chuckled.
" It's quite alright. Now thank you for helping me, but they should be releasing me tonight. Thank you for everything and I wish you all the best in life." I said with gratitude.
"Wait, where are you going to stay?" His face creased with worry.
"At my aunts." I lied quickly. He saw through me though.
"You can stay with me. "
"I'd rather not impose. You don't really know me and as you can't see, i have a lot of problems."
"Look, friends don't let friends walk aimlessly on the streets in the middle of winter with no where to go." He smirked. Friends. He had said friends. Inside I was over joyed by this small, seemingly trifle thing but, on the outside I was cool and nonshalont, nodding to his statement. Hopefully, he won't try and kill me. But if I didn't go I'd wind up dead in the freezing cold streets anyways. I have nothing to loose.
