the end of the beginning

I slipped on my school uniform and walked into the bathroom. This was the day I had been waiting for since I began the ninth grade.
I was finally a Senior.
The last year of high school. No more bullies telling me I'm a suck-up, a try hard, a teacher's pest... I was just going to be Maddie Fuchs (pronounced fuse) the Senior of Woodside High School. I am seventeen now so why bother with sticking up with the shit any longer?

I head to the bathroom and curl my hair, and add lip gloss and a little mascara. I look in the makeup bag at the eyeliner.

my friend Heather said that eyeliner would make my eyes pop...

What the hell... I opened the liquid eyeliner and carefully applied it. When I was done I let my younger sister Sadie get ready as I made us breakfast.

When she came downstairs to eat her eggs and toast she complimented my outfit. "Thanks" I replied to her "cute".

"are you ready for the best day of your life?" I asked her squealing in excitement.

"umm...no" she looked at me like I was stupid.

Sadie was going to be a Junior because we were almost exactly a year apart. I was four months old when Mom got pregnant with Sadie. I was two months old when my dad died of lung cancer, and a Month after, mom started dating Sadies dad and my step dad. Yeah it's a long story...

"you should be excited!!" I helped her by putting her plate in the sink.

"why exactly? It only means I have another year in the stupid hellhole" she laughed.

I laughed too because she was utterly and completely right on her part.
not on mine.

"oh schools not that bad" I locked the house and she walked to my car.

"you are a straight A student. Me? I'm a, if I'm lucky, straight B student!" She sighed as she got in the car.

We were pretty decent students and we never missed a day of school in our lives. If we had the flu we would take medicine at night and suck it up. We did our best to get good grades because we both wanted to get into college.

Mom didn't have that opportunity so we promise her we are going to.

No matter what.
