Friend or Foe

–Harry–

"Shut up," I sternly say to Hannah.

"Put me down!" she protests and then winces in pain.

I managed to pay the cab driver with Hannah in my arms, bridal style, and I wasn't enjoying it very much. She wasn't heavy, but she kept rushing around in my arms as if I was a horrific monster. But then again, she had a reason; her fucking dick of a boyfriend beat the living shit out of her. I run into the clinic with Hannah in my arms and scream at the sleeping nurse who is currently using the reception desk as a pillow. "We have an emergency here!"

The nurse at the desk looked up an annoyance and then her gaze shifted over to Hannah and her eyes popped out of her head like a fish.

"Oh dear," she whispered and called over a couple of nurses. One nurse came rushing over with gurney and I gently laid Hannah down on it. She had gripped my jacket and tugged it gently and stared into my eyes. "Please don't leave me," she said in a hoarse voice, "please don't Harry."

It broke my heart to see Hannah like this and I nodded and clutched her hand which wasn't broken. "I won't leave, I promise."

and then the nurses wheeled her way. I was not aware that I had been holding my breath, so I exhaled slowly and slumped my back up against the wall. I pushed my curls out of my eyes and stared at the floor. One thing was sure; I was going to beat the fuck out of Austin and make sure he wouldn't be able to look at a girl ever again by the time I was finished with him. I wasn't sure what feelings were coursing through me, but they weren't familiar, I haven't felt this way for a long time. I felt vacant, lost, like a puppy and I wasn't fond of the feeling. I closed my eyes and tilted my head back against the wall and thought of ways to put Austin in hospital so the feeling of being lost would be replaced by anger, and it worked.

My vision became blurred with revenge. Who beats a girl like that? And I couldn't get the look of hostility out of her eyes when I went to touch her shoulders, something more than a beating happened. I was sure of that, because when I went to pick her up she didn't just flinch away from me but her words were cold and harsh. "Don't lay a fucking finger on me."

Sure enough I ignored her and scooped her into my arms, but I couldn't gets the eerie feeling out of my head. What the hell did Austin do to her?

"Excuse me, sir."

My eyes followed the voice and I looked up at the nurse who was standing there, around thirty years old and she had a pained smile on her face.

"What happened?" I spoke up, loudly, and gently grabbed the nurse's shoulders. "She's okay, right?!"

"My dear," the nurse removed my hands from her shoulders and the fell down to my sides. She then looked me in the eyes, "She's alright my boy, few broken ribs and fingers. Her jaw isn't busted and her legs are bruised badly." She gave me an uncertain look and then continued, "you can take her home now, but I want to know what happened to her?"

The nurse's eyes looked deeper into mine with a harsh glare, but her voice remained calm. She thought I did it?

"She's my friend," I said. "I really don't know how she got in this condition or what happened, but I promise I will find out. Thank you so much, I would like to take her home."

The nurse stood there for a while, eyeballing me up and down. I bet she was trying to see if I had beaten Hannah black and blue. She then sighed and nodded, "Just tell me her name and we can discharge her."

"Hannah Curran," I spoke, "I'm Harry Styles."
