Embers
Drabble and Fluff
December 30th, my babies were born.
January 1st, we were headed home.
I sighed, carrying Haven, while Harry held Luke. Anne was downstairs with Des, while Gemma was at work.
Taking a deep breath, I steadied Haven in my arms, leaning against Harry's arm as the lift went down, feeling exhausted. Sure, I'd spent two days recovering after giving birth, but the fact that I was a mum was emotionally exhausting. I was ecstatic, even though I was so young, and I wasn't even married to the father of my babies.
We were getting married soon, so the thought didn't bother me much.
Ding.
I smiled slightly, walking out with Harry. Des and Anne were waiting outside their Range Rover, and I could faintly see the newborn car seats sitting inside.
Before we could get stuck trying to open the door, Anne got out and gave me a proud smile, kissing Haven's head gently before opening the door and letting me in, stopping Harry so she could hold Luke while I buckled my daughter into her seat.
Harry laughed as soon as he saw I was done, hugging his mum from the side. "Ma, I need Luke..." he murmured, kissing the side of her head.
She sighed. "I guess there'll be plenty of time for spoiling them while they grow up.." she mumbled, reluctantly passing her grandson over and getting into the passenger seat.
I giggled from the back seat, where I was, and Harry glanced over Luke, at me, giving me a small smile before he finished strapping the infant in and crawling back with me, pressing a chaste kiss to my lips. "I love you.." he murmured, smiling against my lips.
I giggled, but our moment was playfully ruined when Des said from the front, "Stop necking back there!"
Harry chuckled, pulling away from me to pull his seat belt on, then grabbing my hand. When the car started moving, he turned towards me, eyes twinkling. "So I researched earlier about babies walking.."
He caught my attention, knowing how much I loved it when he looked something up about babies to help with the children. "And?"
"Several websites said most children begin to walk by the fourteenth month, with support."
I smiled at what he was hinting. In just over a year, we could get married, if we wanted the babies to be a part of the ceremony. "I want Haven to be the flower girl, and Luke to be the ring bearer," I murmured, imagining the kids now, either A) making a mess of the wedding or B) being adorable and not messing up.
Harry smiled, biting his lip gently. "A year's time.." he murmured back, thumb running over my hand for comfort.
I giggled, glad it gave me some time to lose my baby fat. The doctor had told me to wait at least six weeks before I try working out, or until I felt comfortable enough for it.
A small sigh left my lips, and I closed my eyes, drifting to sleep.
Eighteen months later..
"Mummy!"
I groaned quietly, carefully rolling over so I wouldn't knock Haven off the bed.
Recently, she'd managed to get up on Harry's and I's bed, without falling. "What's wrong?" I murmured, pulling her to my chest.
Haven pouted. "'Hungy!"
I smiled slightly at my daughter, glancing over at Harry, who was still sleeping. "You wanna help mummy make Daddy breakfast?" I asked, pushing a lock of hair from her face.
She gave me a slightly toothy smile, leaning back so she could clap her hands without hitting me. "Yeah!"
I laughed. "Shh, you'll wake Daddy up!" I glanced at him and saw his lips quirk up, but other than that, he stayed absolutely still for Haven, so she would believe she woke him up with a breakfast.
Instantly, the little girl in my arms covered her mouth and giggled, crawling out of my lap. "I get Luke, he help," she whispered as she slid off the bed, rushing off.
Harry sat up slowly. "Has she left?" he murmured.
I giggled, reaching over to brush some curls away from his face. "Stay in bed, yeah?" I mumbled back, biting my lip gently. He smiled before rolling back over, burying his face into his pillow.
I ran a hand through my hair and got up, walking out of the bedroom just as Luke and Haven walked out of their room, Luke carrying his blankey. "Mummy.." he mumbled, holding an arm out while rubbing his eye with his free hand.
I picked him up and rested him on my hip, carrying him to the kitchen. "Did Haven wake you up, Luke?" I murmured, grabbing some bread and putting it in the toaster.
He nodded, resting his head on my shoulder. "Yeah..."
I smiled slightly, glancing at the time. It was 9:25am. "It was almost time to get up anyway, bud," I said, bouncing him in my arm gently.
He grumbled quietly, shaking his head slightly. "I wanted more dream."
I bit my lip, setting him down reluctantly and pulling some eggs and bacon out. "Was it a good dream?"
He nodded. "Yes!"
I laughed quietly, watching him as he waddled into the living area, holding hands with Haven, and they sat down in front of the tellie, watching some random kids show.
Fifteen minutes later, I had bacon, eggs, and toast ready. "Haven! You ready to wake Daddy up?"
She squealed and jumped up from beside her brother, rushing towards me. I gave her one of the plates, holding another one out for Luke.
"You want to help, Luke?"
He gave me a big, toothy, grin and got up, waddling over. He wasn't as good with walking as Haven was, but he was getting better each day.
I smiled and let him hold the plate, grabbing mine and the one they would probably insist on sharing, following them to the bedroom.
"Daddy!"
I smiled at Luke's voice. The morning of our wedding - something we'd been looking forward to since the kids were born three years ago.
While Luke stayed with Harry all day, getting ready, Haven and I were gonna go to the salon, then to Anne's, where we were gonna get ready.
"Gamma!"
Anne smiled at Haven, hugging her gently. She gave me a comforting smile, knowing she and Des would be the only grandparents to make it to the wedding.
Mum and Dad had died shortly after Haven and Luke were born, due to a car accident.
Within three hours, everyone was ready. The ceremony was about to start, and I was itching to see Harry. Traditionally, it was bad luck for the bride to see the groom before the wedding, and vise versa, but at this point, I could care less.
"Five minutes.."
I looked behind me to see my maid of honour, Danielle, and the bridesmaids, Eleanor, Perrie, and Zoey, all glowing in pale pink dresses. A squeal left my lips, and I jumped up. "You look absolutely gorgeous!"
Danielle pulled away. "Yeah, what about you, bride? We're just the bridesmaids, everyone will be looking at you."
A blush rose to my cheeks, and I shook my head. "You girls finish getting ready, yeah? I'll see you in just a few."
As soon as they left, Anne and Haven walked in, Luke trailing behind them slowly.
Everything hit me when I saw Des watching from the doorway.
I was really getting married.
This was really happening.
I smiled, grateful I'd put on water-proof makeup, trying hard not to get teary as Haven buried her face into my dress out of boredom and Luke began sucking his thumb.
Within five minutes, more or less, I'd be Emmy Lou Styles. Haven and Luke wouldn't have to look to me for help when people asked them what their last names were - we'd all be Styles.
Gently, I lifted Haven's head off my lap and stood up, wrapping my arms around Anne. "I'm so happy right now.." I whispered, biting my lip in attempt not to cry.
Anne rubbed my back gently. "I know how it feels, babe. Just imagine, in just a few minutes, you'll be a Styles!"
I giggled, fighting the urge to cry. "I know.."
Anne gave me a last comforting pat on the back and pulled away. "We need to go - you and Des come down when you hear your cue, alright?"
I nodded. Our cue was something so simple - a quiet cough, just loud enough for me to hear.
Jaylee and Haven would be flower girls.
Luke had insisted on being the ring bearer, though he had no idea what he was doing.
Louis was the best man, while Niall, Liam, and Zayn were groomsmen.
Faintly, I heard the coughs, and gave Des a small, nervous smile. Though he wasn't a man of many words, he murmured a quick, "It'll be alright, Emmy...just you see."
Instantly, his words filled me with comfort, and we started down the hall, and around the corner.
Finally, I could see Harry.
He looked absolutely perfect.
Again, I wanted to start crying, but I took a deep breath and concentrated on his eyes, something that I did when I got nervous. He gave me a comforting smile while the paps in the crowd snapped photos left and right. As soon as I reached him, and Des gave him my hand, he murmured, "You look gorgeous."
I blushed and looked down, not paying attention to the priest until Harry said a confident, "I do."
"Do you, Emmy Lou Jackson, take this man, Harry Styles, to be your husband, and promise to be a loving and loyal wife, to cherish and keep him in sickness and in health, and, forsaking all others, to be faithful to him as long as you both shall live?"
I stared into Harry's eyes, taking a deep breath before I said, "I do."
"You may kiss the bride."
Harry smiled at me, giving me my favorite crooked smile before leaning in and pressing his lips against mine fervently, his hands finding my hips. Everything around me seemed to go away - the fact that there was at least three hundred guests watching, including paparazzi.
"Mummy, I'm hungry!"
I smiled and pulled away from Harry, picking Haven up. "My my, you are one needy child!" I said playfully, kissing her cheek gently. Haven giggled, wiggling until I put her back down. Luke soon replaced her, and I smiled lovingly at him, pressing my lips to his forehead before I set him back down and made my way down the isle with Harry.
June 2, 2019.
My wedding with Harry Styles, the most perfect day of my life.
