Embers
Twinsies
"Emmy! What are the baby's names?"
"Emmy, what are the genders?!"
"Emmy! When are they due?"
"EMMY!"
I pursed my lips and continued to ignore the paparazzi. They seemed so much more aggressive in the States than they did in the UK. Several even grabbed at my clothing, purse, hair. I'd lost my favorite pair of sunglasses to them once.
Harry gripped my hand tightly, reminding me of his presence. We'd just gotten done with a check-up for the babies, and all was good. They were healthy, I was healthy, and the boys had a small break in the tour. And the babies were due December 29th, which seemed so close.
To say I was scared was an understatement.
The black Range Rover came into view, and I let out a sigh of relief, pressing my hand to my belly. Though I hated most maternity dresses, the one I was wearing wasn't too bad.
I let go of Harry's hand and got into the passenger's seat, which is slightly difficult when you're six months pregnant with twins.
About five minutes into the drive, I looked over at Harry and bit my lip. "Harry?"
He glanced at me, slowing to a stop at a red light. "Yeah?"
"I want the kids to be a part of the wedding." I blurted the words out, then watched him anxiously.
He jerked, and I was glad we'd already been stopped. He probably would've slammed on the breaks. "Sorry?"
I blushed. Obviously, my words shocked him. "At our wedding. Let's have it after the babies are born, so they can be a part of it."
Harry smiled slightly, and the car started moving again, due to the green light. "I think that's a perfect idea."
I blushed even more, folding my hands over my stomach. Just three months to go, and you'll be out! I thought at the twins, desperately wanting to see them. I wanted to know who they resembled the most, and if they were identical or fraternal.
"You little shit!"
Harry laughed from above me, his hands pinning my arms on either side of my head. "Emmy, I'm just rough housing!"
I giggled. "Let me up!"
Harry smiled before pressing a small kiss to my forehead and rolling away from me. Granted, our 'rough housing' wasn't much, considering I was pregnant, I still was strict about it.
Lying on our backs and staring up at the ceiling, I snuck a quick glance at Harry. Though his hair was usually curly, it'd started to go straight.
I liked it.
His eyes darted towards me, and a quick giggle left my lips as I looked abruptly up at the ceiling.
"What's so funny?" he asked, rolling onto his side.
I leaned up on my elbow with difficulty, and watched him for a reaction. "You are."
His eyes flashed playfully, and he pushed some hair out of my face before pressing a kiss to my cheek. "How so?" he murmured, kissing his way down to my neck and collarbone.
I bit my lip and pushed his head away, earning a laugh from him. "Don't.." I whined, sitting up.
Harry smiled and pulled me back against his chest. "I love you.." he murmured, resting his chin on my shoulder.
I gave him a small, shy grunt, not meeting his gaze.
He kissed just below my ear. "Baby..."
I shivered at his actions before standing up and making my way to the kitchen-like area.
AKA: A mini freezer/fridge and a table pushed against the wall.
Which...was currently empty.
I sighed and slipped my shoes on, grabbing my purse. "Haz, I'll be right back, ya? I'm just gonna head to the store and get something to munch on."
He smiled faintly. "No pizza."
I smiled back. "No pizza."
For a second, worry seemed to flash in his eyes. "You're taking Preston, yeah?"
I nodded. "I'm too scared to go without one of them, ya know. With the babies, and all."
He mocked my actions, then grabbed his phone and began tapping away. I sighed, running a hand through my hair as I walked away, pulling on a light cardigan. For September weather, it was fairly warm.
Three months past in a breeze, and I was growing more and more anxious. It was Christmas morning, and even though the babies weren't due for another three days at least, I was uneasy.
What if they came early?
Or late?
I'd prefer a late birth, though it would be slightly uncomfortable.
Sighing, I rolled over to my other side to face Harry, grunting at the effort.
Never had I ever felt so pregnant.
But then again, never had I been so pregnant.
His eyes were shut, but not for long. While I studied him, his eyes slowly flickered open, and he gave me a small, lazy smile. "Hey, you."
I bit my lip at his morning voice. "Hey. Merry Christmas, babe."
His hand found my bump, and he caressed it gently. "Merry Christmas, baby."
I smiled and rested my hand over his, worry overcoming me again. "What if they come early? Or late?" I whispered, squeezing gently.
Harry let his thumb slide back and forth in a soothing motion. "We'll be fine, you'll be fine, and they'll be fine. Don't stress, okay? It's bad for the babies."
I bit my lip as he used the same excuse I'd been using my whole pregnancy when he tried to get me to do something I didn't want to do. "Harry, no, I'll stress myself out, and it's not good for the babies!"
Finally, after a few moments of silence, I let out a deep breath and nodded. "Okay."
Within thirty minutes, we were up and making breakfast - eggs, bacon, and toast; the typical breakfast, right?
I snuck a glance at Harry and smiled when he tried to eat a piece of bacon without me noticing. "Put it back, you," I murmured playfully.
He smiled, knowing he was caught, but also knowing I wouldn't do anything about it, and pushed the piece in his mouth. "I'm hungry, babe!"
I slapped his arm gentle enough that it wouldn't hurt, but he still feigned pain, giving me a sad look.
A laugh left my lips, but before I could say anything, there were three knocks.
I pressed a chaste kiss to his lips and hobbled over to the front door, opening it and being greeted by Zoey, Jaylee, and the boys. While each of them carried a small bag, Zoey was left with a large bag, full of presents.
I frowned. "Why are you letting the woman in the group carry all those bags? Help her!" I scolded, feeling Jaylee squeeze by me and run to Harry.
The bond those two shared never seemed to amaze me.
I shook my head and took the presents from the boys as they helped Zoey drag the big bag in, leading them towards the Christmas tree. Setting them down carefully, I made my way back into the kitchen. "Who's hungry?"
"Emmy, why can't we find out what they're gonna be?"
I smiled at Jaylee's whining. "It's a surprise! You only have a few days to wait, anyway, love," I said, concern slightly dipping into my tone. It wasn't unnoticed by Harry, and he wrapped a secure arm around my waist gently.
Ding.
I moved to push myself off the couch, but Harry rested a hand on my shoulder gently before getting up himself and making his way to the door. "Mum! Gemma! Where's dad?"
Anne's voice floated into the room, which had gone silent at the doorbell. "Oh, you know. Des had work, but he'll be over tonight. He wants to see Emmy!"
I giggled from my perch on the chair. I'd always loved Harry's family.
Stubbornly, I tried getting up again, only to fail when Anne turned the corner. "Emmy, you sit back down!"
I gave Harry a sheepish smile while his mother and sister made their way over to me. "Why's everyone making me sit so much today?" I asked playfully, hugging Anne tightly.
She pulled back and examined my dress. "You look stunning today," she gushed, stepping back so I could hug Gemma.
I blushed. "I don't really like the maternity clothes," I admitted, wrapping my arms around Harry's older sister. "Hey, Gem."
Gemma smiled at me, her arms wrapping themselves around my waist. "Still no insight on the genders?"
I shook my head. "Nope. Three more days, alrighty?"
She sighed and gave me a smile. "Well...let's open these presents then!"
Three days passed.
Four days.
I was getting anxious.
However, I woke up in the middle of the night of the fifth day.
Slight cramps were attacking my stomach. I waited for a while, not really paying attention to the time before I sat up slightly, and nudged Harry. "Harry..babe, wake up..."
He mumbled something about getting more sleep when I suddenly screeched.
"My water broke!"
Instantly, he was sitting up, phone in hand as he fumbled with the password. As soon as he got in, he dialed 911. "My fiancee's water just broke."
The next four hours were crazy. Anne, Gemma, Mom and Dad arrived, almost as anxious as I was. Zoey stayed at the rented house with Jaylee and the boys.
My contractions were closer together, though the nurses assured me the babies probably weren't coming for another four hours, at least.
I tried to get comfortable, but it was difficult in the hospital bed. Harry was the only one allowed in the room, and he was currently making funny faces at me, trying to lift my mood.
I giggled every now and again, to make him feel better for his efforts.
At 12:45pm, Haven Darcy Styles was born, and at 12:48, Luke Ryland Styles was born.
...I had my babies.
